Did the same, same thing is happening to me.

I'm using the old updater since i don't need the NC Soft launcher for one game. Shouldn't mater witch i use though since they both do the same thing from the same on-line sources

That is most likely the problem then, since they no longer officially support the old version of the launcher. I remember reading somewhere (going to have to try and find it) that eventually you would *have* to use the new launcher as the old one would no longer work.

Today might be someday.

Actually it probably does matter because a few months ago when the Devs introduced the new launcher they told us that eventually we'd all have to use the new one as a replacement for the old one. Sounds like today's patch finally made it mandatory to use the new one.

The new one really is better than the old one anyway. It updates the game quicker and it eliminates the need to have multiple shortcuts on the Desktop for Test and Beta. *shrugs*

There's also a post around somewhere that says how to modify the new updated to auto-launch CoH if that's your only game so you don't actually have to go to the thrice-damned NCSoft Launcher and pick CoH.

I'll see if I can find it...

I didn't do anything special besides install the new updater and I can still launch straight into the game with my old shortcuts (same with my Beta and Test Server shortcuts).

Nope, the old updater still works fine - well for me at least but I'm not launching it "traditionally" - and as far as I'm concerned until they update their Steam install (Steam, remember that? You sell your game through it sometimes) with the NCSoft Launcher so I don't lose all the nice functionality, I'm not touching it.

I've read where apparently earlier versions of the NCSoft Launcher was a hunk of junk. That may be true, but I've had absolutely no trouble with the current version and actually consider it an overall improvment to the old CoH launcher.

Actually, my objection to it is the same as all the other companies that use a unified launcher: I don't need to be reminded/advertised to about your other games. If I wanted to buy them, I would.

From a usability standpoint, the launcher is fine. I object on principle.

See: Every game or application that insists on trying to install itself into "C:\Program Files\<Company Name>\<Application Name>\" as if there's no chance that you *wouldn't* have so many other apps of theirs that you need the help to "organise" them.

Yeah I guess on some level it's a bit shameless for a company to "remind" us that they have other games that we could play. But as you say many other company's are already doing that so objecting to that on "principle" is definitely splitting hairs that are barely worth splitting at this point. YMMV of course.

If you don't object to these things then you end up with the kind of things EA keep doing and nobody wants that.

They are a company trying to sell "their" games, not someone else. Is it really that hard to understand? Besides the "workaround" for this kind of thing is beyond trivial. If this kind of thing is really upsetting you then you don't really have enough to worry about in your life.

Yeah but am I going to lose any sleep over this kind of thing? Hardly...

Frankly this sucks since this means i have to use up space for something i don't need no mater how small it is.

Actualy im not useing any updater outside of the one that comes with the game all the way back from when coh first came out.

On a side not about 15-20 min ago it finaly updated.

Well I guess that answers the question of whether the old launcher still works or not. *shrugs*

Still the Devs did tell us that eventually they are going to stop supporting the old launcher in favor of the NCSoft one. I'm obviously not going to tell you what to do but I've been using the new one for several months and have had zero problems with it. Once the Devs pull the trigger and drop the old launcher I'll be "ready" for it regardless.

As for "using up space" you can easily set the NCSoft launcher to close after it starts the game so it really takes up no memory "space" at all. If you're actually worried about DISK space then you've got more troubles than just this new launcher to worry about.

Except at some point you WILL need it. At least you will if you plan on continuing to play the game.

I switched to the new one and just deleted the old one, the difference in disk space is negligible.
