No, you become either a Hero or Villain after Praetoria. After that, you can run Tip missions to change alignment.
If you're a Hero with an ancillary and you change sides, you keep the ancillary.
The advantage of Vigilate/Rogue is access to both sides. The advantage of Hero/Villain is alignment merits.

You can then sideswitch back and you will still have your PPP's for ever.

Wanted: Origin centric story arcs.
If you've only played an AT once (one set combo) and "hate" it - don't give up. Roll a different combo. It may just be those sets not clicking for you.

A hero archetype will always have access to their appropriate APP. A hero archetype has to be a villain to unlock PPPs (either post-Praetoria, or via alignment switching), but once they have been unlocked, that hero archetype will awlays have access to PPPs, even if they stop being a villain.

IIRC, it's closer to blue than purple. And, of course, it has Black Scorpion's symbol. It's been a while since I've seen it, though.

That is essentially correct. As with the other patron pools, it has a pulsating graphic of the symbol of the corresponding patron that is at about chest height.

About Praetoria and later alignment... Can I put off the lvl 20 Praetoria mission to leave the zone and go to the Primal Earth? Indefinitely?
If I do complete this mission will I still be able to return to team up with my lower-level friend?
You can put it off and, in theory, reach level 50 entirely in Praetoria without ever going to Primal Earth.
Doing so is a bad idea, however, because you will soon be unable to buy enhancements, unless you use the market heavily or engage in mail-related shenanigans. You also don't have to, because you can go back to Praetoria whenever you want. The portal is in Pocket D.

After Praetoria I will become either a Rogue or Vigilante, yes? Does that allow me to access both Villain Side and Hero Side? Is there a reason to go 100% Hero or Rogue? (some sort of loyalty reward?)
Now, if I go Hero and then take an Ancillary set what happens to that when I switch? Am I automatically changed to a Patron Pool? Basically, could I have a villain character with the Hero powers?
