Mob difficulty vs. reward earned?

Hi all,

I've been playing on and off for a while now, and I just had a thought.

I was on my level-shifted brute, who still had enemies set at +0 from a farm. I thought to myself "I better go up the difficulty so that I'm not seeing blues any longer", and then I thought "does it matter?".

So, does mob level matter as far as the reward earned? Does it matter if I fight 50s vs. 51s or 52s? I know the inf. reward will increase, but is that it? Are there any other "drops" that are affected by mob level?

Though the drops do increase with higher enemy ranks (Minion, Lieutenant, Boss, etc.), so if you can kill Bosses fast enough, it's worthwhile to set your difficulty to allow them.

So basically the best "farming" setup would be -1/x8 with Bosses. That would ensure the best rate of return on recipes and other things that depend on mob type?

The problem with -1 is that any set IO recipes you get (except for purples) will be level 49 instead of 50. Now admittedly a lot of the regular drop set IOs aren't that valuable anyway but in general level 50 recipes are worth more on the market than level 49s.

-1/x8 with bosses would be the fastest, yes. However, almost all (non-purple) set recipes you get would be level 49, which sell for much less on the merket. If you care about that, it would be better to stick with +0/x8, so that you'd always be getting lv50 recipes.

Depends on your kill speed. Bosses are worth between 10 and 5 minions depending on level (at level 1 it is a 10:1 ratio, but goes down the higher level you become). But if you can't kill them as fast as you kill 5-10 minions, you're better off with bosses off.

then there is the complex factor of bosses dropping merit-only recipes at about the same rate as purples, and no other level of enemy doing this. So my guideline is if I can kill a bass as fast as 4 minions, I turn them on. If I find myself bogged down by them, I turn them off.

You'll need to figure out what works best for you.

No, missions taken by a 50+1 are still level 50 missions, not level 51 missions. The enemies are judged off the mission rating. And +0 for a 50+1 is 50; -1 for a 50+1 is 49. So he'd be getting level 49 recipes at -1, except for mission-completion recipes (still level 50, since there is no longer such a thing as lv 51, 52, or 53 recipes).
