Fiery Embrace doesn't work on Pool Power attacks

I haven't found a place yet where this is discussed, but Firey Embrace from the tanker Fiery Aura primary doesn't affect the Boxing punch from the Fighting pool. It's my understanding that it's supposed to affect all attacks, and I use Boxing in my primary melee chain so that lack of fire damage really matters. Just to be clear, it IS working on everything else--AOE, ranged, other melee--just not that one attack.

This is a bug, right? And if so, is it a known one?

Thanks!

The way thew new FE was coded (to the best of my knowledge) it now turns on a flag for your character. After that every single applicable power in every powerset (not pool powers and also not patron/ancillary iirc) was coded to deal some fire damage if the player has that flag activated.

Basically, pool, patron and ancillary were left out on purpose.

I am an ebil markeeter and will steal your moneiz ...correction stole your moneiz. I support keeping the poor down because it is impossible to make moneiz in this game.

FE works with quicksand on my Tank and it's damage is buffable. I was shocked to discover it was doing 120 damage when my damage was capped at 300%.

Err?
Quicksand doesn't do damage?

Note: FE does work with epic & Patron powers that do damage.

Well, if Fiery Embrace isn't supposed to--ie isn't going to be fixed so it does--ad damage to regular pool power attacks I need to know, because that changes my whole power choice. BUT, I had thought that it was explained that it added extra fire damage to ALL attacks.

Guess I'll go dig around for more info, but if anyone knows anything PLEASE post.

Thanks!

It might take a few hours for some of us to get home and test this out. Try to hang in there.

And I'm not sure why it would change your power choice. Were you only using pool powers?

I just tested this on my SS/Fire Brute. I can confirm that FE does not add damage to Boxing. It does work on Gloom, so I assume it works properly on Ancillary/Epic pool powers.

One attack that isn't working with FE is not a good reason to skip Tough and Weave. Maybe we can help you with your build if you are using Boxing as an attack. By level 50, you should have enough attacks to never need it. While leveling, some builds take their attacks later and focus on survivability powers early on. Using boxing while leveling is not an issue, but you shouldn't need to use it at 50.

According to what the description says FE dose boost your fire attacks for quite awhile. Also increase the damage of all your other non-fire attacks for a short while. So u might not see it in boxing because u might of used a little after the affect of the second. It may last maybe 1 or 2 non-fire attacks.

That description is out of date now. They never changed it when they made the change to how it works now.

FE is supposed to do extra fire damage with every attack now, regardless of it's type. Looks like they forgot Normal pool powers though. Still, as long as App and Ppps work that's not too annoying.

Someone asked for my build--I already got rid of using Boxing like they suggested. This is totally a "blapper" build that I did for theme, fun, and cheap, and NOT a "good tank".

Sorry, just noticing you used Boxing in your primary chain, wasn't sure if that was a typo.. ;]

Tanker Fiery Embrace Experiment

* Update: In order to allow for more accurate testing results, the new Fiery Embrace buff will now affect Ancillary and Patron Power Pools in addition to all Secondary attacks.
Glancing at your build, have you had issues laying Burn while you're flying.

If you can achieve 32.5% positional defenses, you could have a pretty tough tanker and still do decent damage. It would require investing in IO sets, but it is worth the effort. Use the alignment system to farm Hero Merits if you want an easy way to make INF without marketeering. I posted in another thread a few more details about how to do tip missions efficiently on hero side.

Acemace: Yeh, I mentioned that I took Boxing out because a couple of people suggested it and I saw that they were right. At low levels I really liked how the disorient stacked with my others, but I can see that I won't need it post 50.

Syntax42: I know you're right and I understand the conventional wisedom of building for defense on FA (and actually just about any) build, but I don't have (or want) a SG and I hate farming and grinding. It's just not worth it to me.

Plus, what I really wanted to build--for fun and theme--was a faux Fire/Energy blapper. Didn't want to go brute because, well, there's just nothing brutish about his theme, and I wanted a good balance between toughness and damage. Not the toughest toon around or the highest damage, just decent at both.

And he has to be cheap cause I don't grind or farm and I don't have an ingame surgardaddy :P.

Anywho, thanks!

OH! And, Acemace, I don't fight flying or hovering, silly, I just wanted to be able to fly and hover for theme. I'd only fight hovering if things got so bad that I had to get out of melee, and then my PBAOE would be useless anyway.

Getting a decent IO build doesn't require farming or an SG or grinding. Sell what drops to vendors and spend a few minutes at Wentworth's once in awhile to see if you have any recipes that sell well. Pretty good guarantee that any rare or uncommon salvage will be worth a little cash, especially in mid to later levels.

Even better, just gather merits as you are playing things you like to play. I am able to slot a Numina's or Miracle Unique on each character, plus some other more rare IOs, just because I play story arcs with characters, as well as TFs. The merits really do add up. You can also do tip missions once in awhile when you feel like it and add up hero or villain merits that way. I hate farming those, so I just play them once in awhile and let my hero merits build up (usually when I don't have time for much else than one mission).

IOs are more of an investment than just buying a slew of SOs (though not that much when you consider you have to buy those every 5 levels, and you can get away with only creating and slotting once for IOs), but you shouldn't see it as a required farming or grinding thing. Play what you want to play, have fun, and you'll get enough inf to make a decent build.

I also like to add that TFs are a good way to lvl when you are low lvl I have lvled lots of toons that way. Ya farming is ok but like grey said there are other ways to make inf and merrits. If u do hami at all and instead of taking the incarnent reward you can take merrits or u can take the Hami IO and try to sell it at WW. But some times the Hami IO is not worth as much as some of the others.
