Fire defense helps, especially at +3 or +4 -- they hit hard, even with capped fire res. However, thanks to the glory of insp combine macros, you probably don't have to build for fire defense -- inspirations drop so fast you can keep yourself readily capped with a few clicks.
Edit: Also, if you're PLing lowbies or taking friends/a second account along, I highly recommend going 3 deep into the Leadership pool. Maneuvers and Veng are good lotg mules and you'll always have a nearby corpse for Veng. One-slotted Veng + CJ + Weave puts me at about 40% fire defense, with a nice damage buff to boot.
Mine works similar to a blaster...

You will want fire defense.
In time, I'll come to forgive you.
Leveling up a SS/Fire brute for farming purposes, currently level 27 so 1 level away from Burn.
What's the best way to run farm missions? Does a Fire brute need any fire defense against firey enemies or is the 90% resistance enough to carry him through?
