Badges for Griefing?
Quote:
Again, you misunderstand griefing. Intent is relevant. Which is why your mugging analogy is PURE FAIL. Whether the mugger got anything or not is irrelevant - a crime still occurred.

Ok...for the record, nobody mugs someone accidentally. If you can explain how they can to me, go be a defense attorney and earn a fortune defending muggers.
I've been in missions where I didn't know the objective because it wasn't explained for whatever reason. This meant that I was not always acting in the team's best interests. This is a mistake...NOT griefing.
I've been on teams where someone else didn't understand. This is also a mistake...NOT griefing.
You do not grief by accident...you make mistakes.
You do not make mistakes on purpose...that's griefing.
Griefing, as I understand it, is the deliberate and purposeful act of trying to sabotage another player's fun or goal. The key words are deliberate and purposeful. Anything else is a mistake.
The fact that this has to be explained boggles me.

Okay, that definitely is a reasonable concern. Just drop the whole griefing argument.
I am actually trying to bring up a real issue. It is easy to misread/misunderstand the nature of the badges.

These trials are new AND more complex than most of the other content. On top of that, the conditions for the extra badges can certainly be confusing. Even after the Apex TF had been around for MONTHS, I still ran into people who were confused about the optional badges.
Having said that; at the moment, hardly anyone has a clue. Give it a month and we'll see how it shakes out.

The reason I mention griefing is I actually did not understand the badges when I first read them. Only after quite a lively dialogue with a few people did I understand the true nature (er, probably the true nature, 97% chance? After all, the descriptions don't give much, and there seems to be no official site with the data) of the badges. And after a very frustrating night of multiple failures at the Lambda anything that looked like a cause was a target. And truthfully, on 1st read it looked like an excuse to grief and get rewarded for it, from what I understood.
Okay, that definitely is a reasonable concern. Just drop the whole griefing argument.

Last night, soooo much better. A chat channel buddy set up a League, and I was lucky enough to get a seat. We made 3 runs, all successes. I would even go with all easy, even easier than ITF. Although the last fight takes a ton of damage to overcome the regen. Then, needing one more thread to slot my first new incarnate, I hit the LFG button. Wow, 10 signed up, 9 loaded. 1 could not be set on a team and quit. We tried for awhile, but it took us like 7 minutes to drop the security guard. The writing was on the wall there.
I know this is getting into another topic, but they need to fix the LFG so that it loads with 16 for the Lambda. Because unless you are Stan Lee and his Coterie you ain't doing it w/ 8.

I've done it with 9, and it wasn't that hard. We didn't even have an ideal team or anything... just half the team had previously failed and ended up getting put back together, so we knew our mistakes and worked together well (despite it being a total cluster [censored] the first time through).I know this is getting into another topic, but they need to fix the LFG so that it loads with 16 for the Lambda. It doesn't seem, though, that the 'willing to join in progress events' (or something) button seems to really work that often... I'll know runs are going on, and have that ticked (I always leave it on), and I only get put on a new one instead...

I've been told that "join in progress" only works if the Trial has dropped below the minimum number of people to start the Trial.

I'm impressed Kitsune. We did it with 16 peeps 3 times and all were pretty easy, but it seemed like dropping below a critical threshold would have lost it. We got all 10 acid bombs on my team each time, and the team teleported to help the other 8 person team get all grenades. With that momentum we hit the last boss fight hard. And still, each time, it was real hard to drop his health bar, couple times in 2 diff runs I saw his health creep back up. Does he scale with team size? I am just finding it hard to see how a 9 person random team can compete with a 16 person team ( 3 diff team makeups, very similar fight ) for damage. I do believe you did it, I just do not understand.

If that's true, that definitely sucks! Although, I'm not sure I believe that... I've fairly certain I was on a trial, leading the league, and had a new person pop up on a new team, way after we started...

I am actually trying to bring up a real issue. It is easy to misread/misunderstand the nature of the badges. If you have someone that believes they can get credit towards their badge by walking out with 2 of these things, you will encounter problems. I do understand the nature of the badges, and look forward to getting them in the future, with a solid team of 50+3s who know how to do it.
