Secondary suggestions for Gravity

Energy. It's really a very good set for Doms. The soft control of knockback really helps your survivability before you get Wormhole and Singy, and afterward, the melee powers synergize strongly. Wormhole + Total Focus is a Mag6 combo outside of domination. Also, the slow recharging, hard-hitting nature of the attacks really helps with the animation bound nature of the dom. Power boost is nightmarishly good, once you've tried it, you'll wonder how you ever managed without it.

Can't say it has the greatest synergy, but my grav/ice was my first dom to 50 and plenty of fun.

City of Heroes was my first MMO, & my favorite computer game.

It's really funny you suggest Grav/Energy. Every Grav/Energy I've made hasn't made it past 10. xD

/storm

Seriously, though, grav is really kinda bad for doms. Its big schtick (extra ST attacks) is quite redundant with an assault secondary (especially with how terrible propel's DPA is). In return for those abilities it provides quite sub-par AoE mitigation, which can be papered over somewhat by a buff/debuff set but becomes pretty glaringly obvious on a dom. If what you're truly interested in is a grav character rather than just a grav dom specifically, you're likely to get a more satisfactory overall experience out of a grav controller.

That isn't to say you couldn't make a grav/ dom *work* - it's a bad set, but it's hard to make a truly useless character. It's just that it's a set that works a lot better on a controller than on a dom. I've found storm to have good synergy with freezing rain and hurricane, I've also heard /rad and /TA mentioned.

What powers are you taking from /Energy?

I'm confused. Anemic compared to what, exactly? As long as you avoid Whirling Hands and the Snipe, you can't go wrong with /Energy. The attacks are all hard-hitting, the set as a whole has a higher damage per activation than any Dom secondary except /Fire, and the knockback/stun is completely worth the sacrifice in raw damage for a Grav/.

I won't deny that Gravity is not the best Dom primary, certainly not early on. It's an utter slog until you get Wormhole and doesn't really reach parity until you've got the Singularity. Once you're there, NOTHING can stack magnitude like a well-spec'd Gravity Dominator, you're a single-target controller without rival. Yes, Grav is never going to be a champion of the AE ticket farm, but it's great fun to play and boasts some tricks that no other control set has.

Anyway, you came in looking for a Grav secondary, so I shouldn't need to sell you on the set. My advice is to give /Energy another try, just don't punk out until you're level 33 and are rocking Singularity, Wormhole and Total Focus. If you still don't like your Grav/Energy dom after that, then you probably never will. Until then, it plays like a single-target blaster. Stay out of melee, use Bone Smasher only once you've got the spawn under control, and don't lose patience.

I'll second both /energy and /storm, as well as the comments about grav/ being weak (relatively) for a dom & better on a controller.

I took a couple swings at grav - I abandoned a grav/thorn at 38 (and several others lower than that) before finally connecting with a grav/energy/energy. I probably spend more inf on that build than any of my other doms... just to see how good I could make a grav. She IS good - but, I would say, not as good as any of my other 50 doms (ice/psi/scorp, plant/fire/mako, fire/stone/cold & elec/ice/soul).

Not to say she is bad in the least... just not quite as good "overall". However, she does have two or three niches that work well:

1. Range focus: This is a function of my build & playstyle, not necessarily the sets. I do have TF & ET, but just as set mules for the time being. I'm going to drop ET & /energy epic next respec for /mako I think. However, sing helps out with keeping things at range, so this is a case on capitalizing on what is available.
2. Moving the weakened hamidon. Grav doms are good for this. <.<
3. Stacking mag on single targets (as others pointed out).

I love playing this dom, but just from a "raw power" perspective, I find that grav falls behind, even with sing - but sing does a TON towards closing the gap.

Also, as mentioned, the fast animation & activation times in /energy assault help out a bunch with grav/ - I really noticed an improvement over /thorns. Grav has some pretty long feeling animations - especially on wormhole, which frequently lets the targets take shots at you - so anything that reduces the "stuck in an animation" time was good for me.

re: grav/storm controllers: If you love grav/ and not doms in particular, trying this is good advice. /storm gives you lots of backup control & safety as well as a second disorient to stack.

Here's my Grav/Nrg/Sirroco build, aiming at permadom and near-perma hasten. I really feel it brings the best that this combo has to offer. Power Boost w/ Vengeance is fantastic, I've never had a power that made me giggle more when I teammate folded. Stand off at range and apply controls until the spawn is neutralized, then move into melee and apply beatdown.

Some of /Energy's animations can feel on the slow side, but they bring a LOT of damage for the wait. Heavy frankenslotting makes the most of Gravity Distortion, which is really the power you should be spamming on teams. With a cycle time of 4 seconds, GD can be stacked to positively insane levels, or spread liberally, and the meaty damage slotting combines decent damage with insane control. If your team isn't needing control, your single target damage is still as good as any blaster.

I'm currently leveling a Gravity/Energy. Can't say it's the funnest thing I've ever done, but I'm about 10 levels higher than my numerous attempts at Mind/ and she's slowly getting better. It's just rather slow on the solo front, but since I just hit SOs I'm hoping things improve. I do wish I had some kind of AoE dmg for teaming.

5 positron's blast with the energy proc, and the smashing proc from impeded swiftness. It's not going to compare with Fireball or anything, but it's got a huge radius, recharges fast, and with the procs actually averages some decent damage. That said, AOE is not your specialty. Focus on spamming your controls and neutralizing irritating mobs like healers/buffers.
