MA/Regen

Since Mids doesn't work on my computer, can anyone suggest a good IO'ed MA/Regen build? Mine is still severely broken (I have less power slots from when Fitness wasn't mandatory and CS and CAK are not up to par as they are now). My only condition is that I don't have ninja or beast run, so I would need a standard travel power (SJ over SS).

What level is yours at?

I have a level 50 MA which I don't play but keep around as a marketer since she was my first 50. I can't recommend MA.

I've never played Regen, but I can't imaging the powers being a good fit for my play style.

If you have an external hard drive, or maybe a thumb drive, try installing mids there. Worked for me.

Using mac. I'm level 50 with alpha unlocked.

I'll see what I can put together, although I'm not entirely familiar with MA (or its optimal chains). Outside of that, would you like Shadow meld? Or something slightly different like Hibernoob and water spout? Or something like mu mastery for more standard AoE?

~~

Threw a pretty good build together without purples (Most expensive slots are probably the 2 enzymes and 2 membranes).
I only used the tier 3 Spiritual, because I'm not sure if you want to do the extra work for a t4 or not.

This was also done without a chain in mind, I only worked it so that Storm Kick's recharge would be less than the activation time of your other attacks. (looks like SK - CAK - sk - cs works though), and EC can go wherever. I hear it's fun to use before Dragon's Tail for a flurry of crits.

Also, if you want crane kick instead of cobra strike, that could easily be switched out. The powers are pretty much identical. I would prefer a stun to a KB, however, so I picked CS.

I'll do the (usually annoying) long version since you can't run mids.

It has 24% def to melee and range, 21 to AoE. Those numbers go to 56 and 53 respectively when Shadow Meld is thrown. Your accuracy vs +4s is good for all attacks. Regen is good, recovery is good. Hasten is down for only 8 seconds (That would be 4 seconds with a tier 4 spiritual).

For great advice on MA, click Search (^^ up there), then advanced. Look for the word "crane" by user Umbral. On the bottom left, "show results at posts."

(Where is Umbral these days?)

Not only did he give good advice, but there were usually other expert-like folks bumping heads with him.

I'm about to respec my Ma/inv, a 50 but not incarnate. The one big change I'll do, not take eagle.

DPA and animation time

Thunder Kick does 54.7 DPA over 1.056 seconds.
Storm Kick does 97.7 DPA over 1.056 seconds.
Crane Kick does 73.0 DPA over 1.848 seconds.
Crippling Axe Kick does 61.1 DPA over 1.848 seconds.
Eagle's Claw does 59.2 DPA over 2.772 seconds.

Eagles Claw does less damage than the other 3 attacks while up nearly 2 attacks worth of animation time. It's better to get in Thunder Kick and Crane Kick than it is to get in Eagle's Claw and nearly as good to get in a Thunder Kick and Crippling Axe Kick as well.

Thunder + Crippling Axe = 66.4 DPA over 2.904 seconds.
Thunder + Crane = 58.8 DPA over 2.904 seconds.

Because Eagle's Claw takes so long and is on such a long recharge, it also means that it will take longer for it to recharge (meaning you can't have the turbo fast attack chains that do loads of damage) and that you will be able to fit in fewer other attacks.
Here's a prior thread about MA/Regen. http://boards.cityofheroes.com/showt...ighlight=crane

And Umbral's response:

5 piece Doctored Wounds for Instant Healing, Reconstruction, and Dull Pain (Integration is a great spot for it too, but it's not requisite). 6 piece Touch of Death and Mako's 6 piece sets for your normal attacks (Crippling Axe Kick and Crane Kick). 5 piece Hecatomb in your most recharge intensive attack (Storm Kick). 6 piece Obliteration for any PbAoEs you take. Make sure to put the Steadfast 3% +def in Resilience and get as many LotG 7.5% +rech IOs as possible.

It's useful stuff, but composing a refined build in Microsoft word is a little hard.

Any friends with PC's? It can run off a portable drive.

Only other friend who play CoX is also a mac user.

Off subject, I play COH Mac also. If you don't mind emulating windows, you can use Parellels or VMware for doing Mids. That's what I do. Personally recommend VMware.

And Umbral's response:
Wait...wait...why would you skip Eagle's Claw? It gives a +33% chance to crit on the next attack used.

EC + Dragon's Tail for lots more critting!

So I am still not sure what to build.

Wow. I stand corrected.

This falls into the "The More You Know..." category. I tend to lead with EC anyhow. And my attack string is whatever is up and seems appropriate. Though I'd not really reccomend my play style on MA to anyone. I like using AirSup for mitigation (which totally makes sense and fits theme.)

Out of curiosity, is that a real +33% to the base chance to crit or 133% multiplied by the base chance to crit?

Still not sure what to do.

1. Kick things in the face at +0/x1
2. Add /x until the scrapper is no longer fun to play
2a. Don't feel bad if this is not x8
3. Go back to the last known 'fun' setting
3a. Don't feel bad if this is not x8
4. Continue kicking things in the face.

Take every regen power except revive. Resilience is optional but I would suggest taking it as your last power.
From MA, take Storm Kick, Cobra Strike or Crane Kick, Focus Chi, Crippling Axe Kick, Dragon's Tail, and Eagles Claw. From pool powers take anything that adds defense (except stealth) and hasten.
Epic pools or patron pools I prefer body or the one from ghost widow. Either one will do.
Slot for recharge. When you cap out on recharge bonuses or they are unavailable, then slot for defense.
Laugh as you pummel your enemies to death while they froth in fits of anguished rage over their inability do any significant lasting damage to you.

Posted

I may go with body for the sheer easiness of getting it. Do you have any suggestions of any actual IOs I should slot to the powers?

Posted

That's why I posted the long version of the mids build above... so you can see the IOs slotted in each power.

All right then. I think I can scrounge around for some Body Mastery slotting builds. To those who use MA a lot nowadays, which do you prefer, cobra strike or crane kick? Back when I made this character, cobra strike was a skipped over and of little use, but now it seems to be one of the most best attacks in the power sets.

I know this, but you also skipped EC, which I will be including in the build somewhere.

EC is at lvl 32...

I know, what I am saying is that I don't know any specific IOs to put in it.
