SS/FA/PYRE!!! S/L Def???
40.5% defense is still one small luck away from def cap. Might be a good thing, or bad. If you have gotten to 40.5%, you can make it to 45% by tweaking your build further. It may not seem like a lot, and I am certainly not the one to break everything down mathematically, but the difference between a meleer at 40.5% defense and 45% defense is sizable.
So, in short. 40.5% is noting to scoff at, but if you stretch, I am sure you can pick up the rest of that and be happy.

The last 5% essentially cuts damage in half. You're going from 10% to 5% enemy hit chance.

Hasten crashes, rage crashes and quick charging aoe attacks all drain that blue bar in a hurry. Consume is helpfull but you will still be chewing blues like there is no tommorrow.
Also I would not bother with the proc in Blazing aura. It only has a chance to proc every 10 seconds in toggles.

I haven't reid other avenues such as using Nerve for the extra 20% glonal defenses but since I've made dozens of builds trying this way, I will experiemnt much more with those there.
Somehow, the mechanics of the game seems te recognize the faults of a build, it drops lots blues but I am not having much Endu issues, I may pop a few here and there but I plan to get those auto-accolades htis weekend to help out with that.
I will also try to tampering with Mu to see if has other enhancement slotting available that may give a better chance to build for soft cap defense while keeping high global recharges as well.
now i am by no means a master mids builder, but i did take a shot at a build, i was able to get it to softcap and keep perma hasten, however, lost a bit of recovery due to swapping out one purple set and lost a lil bit of recharge too.
EDIT: swap perfect zinger for mocking beratement and you will get better recovery and recharge then what i have in there now

Your gonna wanna swap out jab for punch. Also i dont recomend you get mu, get soul if you want though, outside farming mu just isnt all that great.
But here, i took a crack at it. From my experience having to have CJ on to get soft capped it actually a *****. But i dont know if you have ninja run or anything.

lucky for you, there is a button at the top of mids to allow you to add in the different alpha slots and see how much you might gain (it won't be a lot, but might add a few percent).
could always add in maneuvers too, although to get any benefit for the end cost, it'll need slots.

Trying to get to the softcap on a fire or electric that have no defensive powers in their secondary is a bit tricky but can be done, I have my electric/electric brute at the softcap for S/L.
You have to grab as much as the big bonus sets that you can and looks like you have done that. The only way you could get there is to try and take haymaker and slot it with kinetic combat. Or 4 slot knockout blow with Kinetic combat and 1 more slot of another set to cap out the damage/acc/end, you lose a purple set but might have to sacrifice.
Other options would be to take taunt and 6 slot it for the bonus. You could also try and slot tough with a reactive armor set, maybe pick up temperature protection over rise of the phoenix and move your steadfast there.
You could free up some slots in rage since you are only getting a 1.25% for 6 slotting and 2 slotting Rectified Reticle will give you 1.875% (its pricy set but by the looks of your build you have the cash I would hope)
I know you took the stealth set so you could slot 3 LOTG + recharge, but you could get the leadership pool and have maneuvers over stealth (def bonus wont change when fighting) then can have vengeance for another LOTG, or just have maneuvers and pick up other powers.
The last option is going soul mastery for your epic. It is the best epic set available to brutes to help with defense in the way of the tohit buffs especially with darkest night. The aoe isnt as strong but gloom is pretty big for single target (but youre not lacking there with ss) the 2 attacks have a good bonus set with Siphon Insight (loose on damage but its an option.) I really like soul mastery helps out when you are getting defense debuffs thrown at you, and Darkest night is very fun when trying to grab extra agro from multiple big groups.

I wouldn't spend the money on the Pancea's for Healing flames, the bonuses outside of pvp aren't that impressive. 5 doctored wounds in a click heal is pretty awesome and seriously cheap.
I think the difference between 40 and 45% defense, while huge on a defense based character with low/no resistance, on fire brute is going to be less noticeable because of the higher resist numbers. I'd still play around with mids some more and see what you would need to sacrifice to softcap S/L becasue it really is awesome.
You really don't need to reach the softcap if you're going to sacrifice too much for it. On teams there will likely be some sort of defense buffs or other buffs that it won't matter and while solo you'll have plenty of inspirations to use.

Wow, Meililan and Ultrawatt, you both have really put forth amazing builds when Fire Armor has no defensive powers and too, Hasten is perma under 120 seconds. I really do NOT know how to thank you both but to say, WOW. It took many days & nights to achieved what you both have done. I want to thank everyone for the generous comments as well. I hope it is really worth the efforts to have such a toon soft capped in defense. LOL Cannot wait to try it out too. But the auto accolades will be I am hoping will really improve on the endurance issues.
Speechless I am at this moment. After viewing Ultrawatts Build he has tweaked, I will roll with that one because it has the Pyre mastery which also he has mentioned that its good both in/out of farming. So I will stick with that there.
For the FoTG -resist proc, I see no room for that though unless I drop a slot elsewhere and thats where I must calculate what is worthy to keep and what not.

A long time ago, I was debating what direction I wanted to go with my SS/Fire. I tinkered around with getting it to 45% SL defense too but imho, you sacrifice way too much.
4 slotting Haymaker, KO Blow, taking stealth etc isn't worth it on a /Fire. Even with Rage and Tactics, I find that I miss way too much. The ACC from Kin Combat sets are terrible.
I ended up with roughly 38% SL defense and constantly over softcap anyway on teams with everybody running Maneuvers or getting other buffs. Furthermore, I took the Fire Epic from hero side. Adding Fire Blast and Fire Ball to the attack chain is just down right nasty.
Lastly, you're going to want Cardiac for your incarnate. Without Cardiac, you will be sucking for end due to the high global recharge. Footstomp, Blazing Aura, KO Blow, all the toggles etc etc.
I've been playing an SS Fire for over 4 years now and it's an end heavy toon no matter how much money you dump into it. Cardiac is a godsend.

My 'squishie' SS/Fire has tanked every AV. It's survived over poorly slotted and/or played Willpowers, Invuns etc on STF's, ITF's, RSF, LGTF .....

I have to disagree that you give up too much to get to the s/l soft cap. It is VERY easy to get about 60% +rech and still get at the soft cap, after this point the DR gets really really noticeable. Really the only tough thing to get is good end, but like you said cardiac fixes that.
And low acc in kin combat? Here is what i want you to do, go into mids, set your base tohit down to 39% (which is what you get with +4s) you may find that all of your attacks are still at the tohit cap.
However, i myself have actually noticed that A LOT of people run leadership now. So ive been wondering if its not best to get to the s/l soft cap but to get somewhat close to the soft cap for both s/l as well as e/n (if thats even possible)

Well, I currently have the Leadership pool. It is a nice and easier way to soft cap the defenses with Veng, however, that requires another to be Veng Bait LOL. I am still new to the CoH game mechanics + math + effects when it comes to this. I do not know if it is noticeable for a Fire Armor Tanker/Brute (Resistant Based) if it is soct capped on smash/lethal defenses that it will be much survivable or not.
The build from up above that you've helped me with Ultrawatt haven't been tested yet (Still saving up for the complete build). so because only the smash/lethal is capped, how much difference is it versus having Veng active which capps everything on Defense just about?
Shield tanker/brute tends to be defense based at AoE, Melee and Ranged damage-type. This is also confusing. I do not know which is beter, Smash/Lethal def-capped or AoE, Melee & Ranged defenses.
The main idea for a soft-capped in smash/lethal defenses were to do just more than farming and that is why Spiritual was routed in plans versus Cardiac. To uphold good defense with great recharge will be great for almost any PVE content (imo) and farming. But! Veng offers so much for very little that gives you great room to improve elsewhere but requires a corpse (to do so ingame). It will probably be best to go your route now that I have given it some thought, Ultrawatt. Make 2 builds, one for farms and other for TF's and such LOL.
I have been working extremely hard on this build. Ideas to run farms at master levels and do well with other PVE content as well. I could just build an alternate build but I would be really impressed with a one-build kinda toon that does it all (except for PVP with it).
Question!!! Besides awesome global recharge and damage, what are the best defenses for this to ba a valid build? I do NOT want to keep relying on Veng because I may/do attend running with folks that don't die alot so Veng is a waste for that catergory. is it better to build for soft capping smash/lethal defense? How valid is it at 40.5% smash/lethal defense compared to the 45% soft-cap defense? I've read the threads on "Soft Capping" smash/lethal defenses but still just not sure.
I really, really enjoy playing this toon and that is why assistance is strongly needed hear.
