Praetorian Roleplay

Hey everyone I'll be purchasing GR soon and I'm excited to try out the new zones. However with the said I find myself a little confused on how to roleplay a Praetorian. I know there is no exact way to do anything however I'm just looking for basic tips anyone has picked up. Things that will help me stay in character the best I can. For instance what does someone in Praetoria do for their spare time. Stuff like that. Thanks in advance for the help.

From the start you'll want a concept that you can stick with.
Goldside, depending on your server, may be lacking in RP groups though.
My various Praetorians all start out with a set belief, either Cole is bad, Cole is good or Cole is just someone to replace. Then I allow the arcs to flavor them. Some will start to change their opinion after certain 'events'

Each have their own reason for leaving Prae, none have been the in-game reason though.

As far as places to go, well there is lots of scenery.
The park in Imperial is nice for basking in the sun.
Studio 55 is the Pocket D.
The Wentworths is inside and nice, kinda museum feel if somewhat small. Though power suppresion will be on.

Tiberian Bluff, overlooking Imperial City at night. Awesome view. If it wasn't for the mobs you could just imagine the couples necking.

You need two basic concepts to play your Praetorian:

1. Do you support the Cole Regime?
2. Do the ends justify the means?

You are not required to stick with either choice all the way through. Essentially those are Loyalist or Resistance and how hardline are you.

Other than that, Praetorians are people.

Disclaimer: The above may be humerous, or at least may be an attempt at humour. Try reading it that way.

Pretty much this, if you do the Warden and Responsibility arcs you'll notice they share the same theme of 'Do the ends justify the means?'.

Powers Arc is 'all about me' showing the self serving side of the administration.

Crusader Arc is your generic Anarchistic Freedom Fighter stuff.

I agree with all the good advice above. One word of warning though, if you choose to rp a hardline loyalist that supports Cole despite all the game throws at you, you will struggle when you get towards the final arcs.

I know, for I was that soldier.

It's probably why there isn't a pro-Cole loyalist story line. Powers is loyalty to me,me,me,me! and Responsibility is loyality to the citizens of Preatoria not the administration, Praetors or even Cole.

Yes, and I've stated in other threads that its absence is lamentable.

I mention it here only as a word of warning for rp as I created a Cole supporter as my loyalist character to work through the arcs and then found the stance unsupported by the game's moral alignments. It can be done, Sorrowshade is still an ardent supporter of Cole even though she's in Primal Earth now, it just requires a greater serving of fudge. It's just worth knowing in case anyone was looking forward to roleplaying that kind of allegiance.

Aye. Morden, for example, is blindly loyal to Cole. Mostly because of a certain powerful psyker flicking all the levers and gears inside the poor sods head.

But thats a whole other plot

Ooooooooo I think I might have solved a problem for you regarding the I20 stuff.

You could help take down Cole for Mother :P

After all the Praetors are all scheming against each other and Cole as well :P

I've rolled several Praetorians so far, each with the intention of RP in mind.

WARNING! This post may contain spoilers for the ingame arcs if you haven't played them yet!

Officer Byers, my PPD toon was one that I duoed with a friend through the Responsibility arcs (while my friend ran the Power arcs). When I started, he was very much inspired by Judge Dredd in personality; the law is the law and it's there for a reason, and those who break it must be punished. Very hardline, to the point where I had no issue with him going up against some of his fellow PPD officers in certain missions, since they were clearly breaking the law. Man didn't look the other way for nobody!

Toward the middle and end of the Neutropolis Responsibility arcs, however, there was a subtle shift in how I imagined he saw things. He was still very much in support of Praetoria as a whole and believed in law and order, but the preparations to invade Primal Earth made him question whether this course of action was in the best interests of the people, those innocent law-abiding citizens he had sworn to defend. So when Marchand asked that he try to smooth things over on the Primal side, he agreed to go to Paragon city, with the intention of eliminating the "corruption" there that was supposedly spurring Cole's invasion plan. He has since gone Vig, delivering the same level of hard justice to criminals that he's accustomed to back home.

My other Loyalist character is one I'm planning to take redside, and he's simultaneously running through the Power arcs and working undercover in the Resistance. (I still wish there was an option to sell out both sides to each other, since he's just that kind of evil, self-serving *******, heh.) He pays lip service to Cole and the Praetors, but he really doesn't care about any Primal invasion and would have no problem stepping aside. And I have a Praetorian MM whose story is that he's actually working his way up the chain of command within the Syndicate, so he went Resistance to start and is running the Responsibility arcs undercover.

There's plenty of options to be had, if you know where to look!

As for what your Praetorian characters might do in their off hours, we know that Warrant's TV show on TPN is very popular, and there's at least one online computer/video game that a lot of kids seem to like...
