Brute vs. Tank /Invulnerability
With IO investment the Brute is probably going to be enough for just about any content in the game, *however* with that same investment the Tank is going to be pretty much undefeatable.
On the other hand IO investment will not do much to help the tank or brute damage. Brute will always be much higher.
If you love a character that is simply indestructible, the Tank is the way to go. For me I tend to think that you can build a brute to be good enough for tanking 99% of the content anyway.
If so, and if I'm not incorrect in my thinking that Brute damage will be better with similar IO investment, is there a reason that I'm missing to choose my tank?

The brute will do more damage, the tanker will have better aggro control. The brute's aggro control will likely be plenty good normally. It is easier to build to caps with the tanker and newer content will reward some of the higher values a tanker will bring to the table defensively. Newer content is seeming to encourage movement at some critical junctures. So fury generation while still handy and strong will occasionally be compromised (which is a good thing, IMO).
Which one do you like more? I'd choose that one.
Why Blasters? Empathy Sucks.
So, you want to be Mental?
What the hell? Let's buff defenders.
Tactics are for those who do not have a big enough hammer. Wisdom is knowing how big your hammer is.
When I'm looking to form a PuG to do something I tend to favor Tankers over Brutes because I can trust them to do their job better accidentally - they're tougher by default so build is less important, they AoE taunt with every attack so they're stickier by default.
A good brute build will beat a good tanker build most other times, though. Toughness is key - you do no damage when dead - but as mentioned it's easier to make a brute nigh-invulnerable than it is to make a tanker a dps force of nature (though that is possible. Shield/SS tankers actually outdamage a fair number of brute builds.)
Weight training: Because you'll never hear someone lament "If only I were weaker, I could have saved them."
To answer your first question, no, a brute with the same IO sets as a tank will not be as tough as the tank.
To answer your second question, yes, a brute with the same IO sets as a tank will do considerably more damage than the tank (assuming you keep fury up).
You can build Brutes so that the only thing in the game that can kill you is the RNG (especially invuln brutes) and at the same time leave piles of dead bodies behind you.
A tank will be tougher but unkillable is unkillable.
I had a SS/invul tank build that had softcapped s/l/e/n/f/c/. When I replicated that build enhancer for enhancer on a brute all his defenses were 5-7% below softcap. I ended up building the tank because I didn't want to invest an additional couple billion to get back to cap.
So, the Brute would likely take significantly more to set out equally as well.
If you do get it back to cap though, it would certainly out damage the tank by a good margin.
Brute. Tanks are bad.

I'm trying to decide whether to take my SS/Inv Brute or my Inv/SS tank through the Incarnate content. I'm wondering, can the Brute be made as sturdy, or nearly as, the tank with similar IO investments?
If so, and if I'm not incorrect in my thinking that Brute damage will be better with similar IO investment, is there a reason that I'm missing to choose my tank?
