British Hero vs. 2.0 by Junior
Well obviously I'm a biased dad and I think this is great! One of the things Junior was interested in was people doing commissions and being able to do that one day. I told him I think he needs to choose a few characters to draw and actually finish them. I wanted him to understand that drawing things for yourself because they are cool isn't as easy as drawing something for someone else. Most people have definite ideas and wants for their character and it's very important to keep those things in mind.
So I encouraged some gift art. I chose British Hero because I think 1) Henri would love it and 2) it's a character that would take Junior out of his comfort zone of robots and muscle dudes. As you can see he decided to bring in the robots/cyborg. I think what he noticed was it was much easier to put detail and make 2.0 the way he wanted than it was to make British Hero look as good. I think it was a good learning lesson for him.
Now as a bonus, I am working on inking this piece. I'm using Cami's vector lines method. So this is becoming a learning experience for us both. Though I definitely have a larger learning curve than he did.
Feel free to comment as I know he NEEDS some critiques in order to get better.
JUNIOR!!!!! Welcome to the group!!! I do believe that you have started off with your best piece yet! Think of a kool name for your personal artz thread and start sharing them all with us!

Thanks VexXxa! I'll be sure to start adding new artwork as soon as dad prints them.
Speaking from long experience in doing gift art I think you meant to say....

Good to see you have your own forum account now and I'm looking forward to seeing your new artz.
Welcome to the boards Junior, you really are improving with each piece that your dad has been posting here, well done and keep up the good work. Also PS was right, i DO love it Really happy you chose him and glad he was an interesting subject for you. Looks like it was some battle!
Your linework is looking great too PS, well done that man.
Yep correct as usual CR. That is what I meant to say. DOH!
Really glad you like it Henri! I'll let Junior explain his thoughts behind the piece... when he wakes up (it's Spring Break here).
Thanks for the compliment on the lines. I'll be posting those in my own thread and, if Junior wants me to, in CR's collab thread.
Thanks everyone for the nice compliments i enjoy reading all of your comments because they inspire me. I am also planning on drawin down some more characters versus my mains because dad has been wanting me to get more "movement" into my art.
Oh and please don't be shy to tell me my mistakes i would appreciate it very much.
So many good things about this thread!
1) Junior! cool name! I can't believe it wasn't taken.
2) Your art is looking good!
3) You and your dad both play CoH?!! How cool is that?!!
4) You both seem seem to have such a good attitude about receiving feedback and interacting with the community
5) family art collaborations! so cool.
Any way.. keep up the good work.

Lions Tigers and Bears Volume 3 now available!
Timothy & the Transgalactic Towel
The Gimoles graphic Novel
And this is why this game is awesome; because of stuff like this.
Keep it up buddy, practice really does make perfect. You seem to have a good grip on proportions and stuff already (arms, legs and other bits all look 'right' in comparison to one another) so, yeah...keep it up!
GG, I would tell you that "I am killing you with my mind", but I couldn't find an emoticon to properly express my sentiment.

PsiBug - Numbered comments! I love numbered comments!
1) I was shocked too. Some irony here 1- Junior is not a Jr. (though I'm a IVth) 2- While Junior was available someone has Juni0r... odd right?
2) I'm sure he appreciates the comment! I know I do. It helps me know I'm not just a "my son's awesome" dad.
3) I've been around since '05. Junior had played my account off and on and about two years ago I decided he could have his own account. He recently got his first 50 too!
4) I definitely try to teach Junior that critiques and even criticism is useful. Take something from it. But try to ignore the folks that are just out to be mean (which hasn't been anyone here thank goodness!).
5) I used to draw when I was his age and quit and honestly couldn't draw a decent stick figure now. So when Junior started drawing it peaked my interest again. While I still can't draw I do enjoy working on lines and coloring. Not very well at either but I'm trying and it's something else for us to do together.
Thanks for the compliments Techbot! It's funny, proportions are one thing I figured he would struggle with but he has them down pretty good. Occassionally he will come to me and ask if I think an arm looks too big or what not and we talk through it. He gets frustrated but the fun thing is I can show him how we can adjust some things in photoshop after we scan them. So not only is he learning to draw, he's also getting to learn some Photoshop skills. Win-win.
Thanks again for all the feedback everyone! He is working on a couple pieces now, but Spring Break is over so school work comes first. Hopefully he will have something new up soon!
Hello again everyone! I am working on a new peice and may not have any new art out for a while because this is a large peice and may take up most of my free time. Again i thank all of you for your wonderfull comments.
on the subject of proportions and stuff Junior, have you seen any of the books out there on the matter. Two that i bought that were very useful for all sorts of stuff, perspective, anatomy, proportions, etc, were:
Drawing comics the marvel way and drawing cutting edge anatomy (edit: images removed as it may have been advertising, i see photophucket had already removed one )
prehaps if you don't want to buy them, see if they have them at the library or somet first. Lots of good, step by step illustrations in there and also explanations of why that's the way to draw stuff. Sure there's more out there too, but this is just two i found useful
Acctualy I've seen the "How to Draw MARVEL" book but not the other one but at that time i think i was getting a novel for school so couldn't get it.
Thanks for showing them to me.
This is really sweet, both of you! Junior those pencils were pretty rockin', and PowerStream, great job on those lines! I think it's really great that you guys can do something like this together
Now, Junior... MOAR ARTZ!
Scarf_Girls Official Kid Brother!
I really don't recommend anything by Christopher Hart. :\
Just stick with the "Marvel Way to Draw Comics" and then some other general anatomy books.
