the 69 month vet reward sucks (I have a suggestion)

I would like to propose we start a thread dedicated to revamping Vet-rewards.

All for?

All opposed?

Sticking jetpacks in Vet rewards would be terrible.

Give out all the costumes parts.

Yeah I can easily see it being an homage, tho I won't rule out the possibility that the resemblence is a coincidence. I've been burned too many times complimenting what I thought was an homage and gotten a "WTF are you talking about?" in response.

there is nothing saying that some jet packs could be available to all and others as a vet reward and have no issue with costume pieces being a vet reward (especially seeing as lately if they aren't a vet reward they are a booster pack), honestly all the wining about "the other vet reward costume pieces should be for every one" bugs me, sure I'd be fine with every one getting say 1 of the 4 samurai designs and then having to earn the rest or w/e or even hell making the vet reward costume pieces earnable by in game play (that way it boils down to one or the other, if you arer willing to wait for the vet reward okay if you wanna go kill 200 tsoo spirits and 300 Tsoo minions to get the samurai costumes cool) but honestly this "I want it all and I want it now" mentality is sickening... what ever happened to earning things?

While I think the idea of attaching Jet Packs to either of these awards would be pretty bad I do think they BOTH need to be given something unique because as it stands these are the only two Vet awards that are lacking anything "special" about them.
While I don't think we really need to go back and edit the vet rewards to give MORE, like suggesting getting more than just a free respec (which to me is just awesome!).

I am fully willing to go with the idea of putting ALL the costume piece rewards in at character creation for EVERYONE. Then replacing those costume piece rewards with TWO FREE RESPECS!!! \o/

Now mind you, I'd rather have the belly shirts than the Free Respecs (I had been asking for them for so long!), so it's not like I don't care for the costume pieces.

But sure enough, if they just made every vet reward a Free Respec, I'd be happy.

That's a problem with society and it goes back decades and it's roots begin when people started assuming they are entitled to handouts and teaching that attitude to their kids.

To me a Vet award should be something unique that can't be gained in any other way. I'm not saying that they should be majorly overpowered or something that would be unbalanced in any way. But by the same token they should never really be anything that we can get via any other method. Basically they should be "special" enough to actually make earning a Vet award worthwhile. For example the Reveal Power is a fine example of a Vet award.

The problem with frespecs as Vet awards is that there's already so many other ways to gain respec tokens that they have nothing to do with being a Vet. You can run respec trials. You can buy respec recipes (via influence or even real money). We even get free ones just handed out to us during many Issue launches. How can something the Devs just toss at anyone really be "cool" enough to pass as a Vet award?

So when we have a three month mark when all we get (besides the badge) is something we can get many other ways what makes that any good as a cool little "thank you" for being a Vet? You may like having lots of respec tokens but there's nothing stopping you from buying as many as you want whenever you want.

Basically when it came down to the 45th and 69th month awards the Devs effectively said "we couldn't really think of anything unique to give you guys so we'll just toss another respec token at you". It's pretty much the laziest non-Vety Vet award we could ever get. *sigh*

69 Month Milestone: Genuine

really....Really... REALLY? That is ALL we get for 69 months? I mean come on... So, here is my plea to the CoX peeps to make this right.

My Idea for the 69 month reward is........ JET PACKS!

I think as the 69 month reward we should get jet packs as a back option (maybe only unlockable at lvl 20 with capes)

I propose we get the follwing jet packs as a new back option:

Jump Jet pack
Gold Bricker's Jet Pack
Long Bow Jet Pack
Sky Raiders Jet Pack
and the single engine leap pack you can get from doing the bank missions

and it would be soooooo easy to program in (more or less), since we already have seen them on characters as parts of temp powers so why not make them part of the 69 month reward as costume pieces

of course this should also be retro active to all people who have already achieved the 69 month reward... Come on Devs Do it you know you want to....PLEASE!
lol no

You have it backwards. Everyone in this thread who suggested unlocking vet reward costume pieces for everyone has played for years. We get nothing out of it.

The problem with the vet costume pieces is they're completely arbitrary. Telling a new player they have to wait three years for a pair of boxing gloves is just silly.

I waited... I think they can too... honestly though in the end if they made like the boxing gloves available to every one, if I got a new reward in its place I'd be cool with it...

in the end my point is month 69 needs more then just a respec token (and evidently so does 45)... I suggested jet packs (which in retrospec was maybe a bad idea :P) cause I felt that if I was going to complain about something I should offer a solution (I get annoyed when people ***** and moan but don't try and think of a way to fix things... pet peeve), even if it turned out to be a bad one

Which would be relevant if those of us arguing for making the veteran reward costume pieces available for everybody didn't have them. We all do. The "you are all spoiled" argument has never actually worked that I've seen it.

*edit*
Furthermore, what I personally find sickening is the mentality of deriving pleasure and pride from other people NOT having what you have. One would think that if we had the means for, we would all share our possessions with our neighbours, but this mentality would suggest to me that some of us would instead run their infinitely-copyable possessions in their neighbours' faces and enjoy them more because other people don't have them. To me, this is both alien and offensive, but there you go.

While, I don't believe it's wise to gate costume pieces behind multi-year subs, I don't exactly have any concern with folks who want to have items that not everyone has. Take the contrary position to its logical conclusion and every reward in the game would be available from a store at 1 inf. Part of the tension in the game is not having everything that you want immediately available.

So long as you can do something about it, I'm good. The Vet costume pieces you can't do anything about other than stay subbed. That would be OK if all the costume pieces came very early but some go as far as three years in I think.

The City of Heroes Community is a special one and I will always look fondly on my times arguing, discussing and playing with you all. Thanks and thanks to the developers for a special experience.

I attribute that to the fact that Vet Rewards weren't added to the game from the start. We didn't get them until just before Issue 9 and the devs didn't have a lot of stuff onhand they could use for vet rewards. Costumes and decorative Base items were about the only things available.

When I've respeced my main so many times (and I found it really suckie when I found out I could only buy and use only one Respec with Candy Canes), and still find myself respecing, but I'm out of respecs from my vet rewards (going on 75 month next month), free ones, trials, even the one handed to me for the patron arc...I really really wish I had more respecs. As buying a respec recipe seems like a waste (I could buy a good IO) and I dont want to pay the 9.99 real money for one either.

Now, I don't need that many on every character, but when it's my main in question...I just love em!

Except that the progression for vet rewards always includes a respec every 12 months starting at 9 months (just like you get a free character slot for all awards that are a multiple of 12). Now admittedly the 45 and 69 are the first respec awards that come with nothing else but if they hadn't had a respec we'd have got people complaining about that.

no one has, but I was thinking about them when I was asking if we should do a Vet Reward Revamp thread.
I mean I can't tell you how many times I've used the single shoulder capes for my ninja. Also, Samurai armor and wings were a BIG Jarater for me since I've had a Samurai character since day one (or beginning my account) and a Magical Girl character named "Cherry Blossom ANGEL."

Jet packs bad Idea...fine

how about a respec and 4 incarnate shards
or
a respec and free tailor token
or
respec token and a mission transporter power (for those of us with the mac item pack a second one ...I wouldn't mind a second one)

As a random note about the idea of jetpacks, I kind of have an third option proposal: 69 month vet reward, in addition to the respect, could grant you permanent versions of all the present jet pack powers, such as the rocket pack booster, the jingle jet, the gold bricker pack, and the raptor pack.
They're not costume pieces, so they wouldn't be locked out costume pieces. This also does just as well, given that the sixty nine month reward is after getting the city traveler vet reward, and being temp powers, they still don't take any enhancements.

So, how does that sound?

Yes, and unless the link was broken, it should have been pointing to the 45 months reward which is exactly the same thing. So it's not exactly a new pattern of behaviour reward wise. I just find it odd that you're complaining about the 69 months one but chose to bypass the 45 months one. Especially since more people are likely to achieve 45 months than 69 months.

To the best of my knowledge the only time the devs have gone back and retroactively added vet rewards was when they added the annual free character slots. So unless it's something that could be added to the annual rewards I don't see this happening.

I noticed it cause I just hit 63 months so I was looking at what I had to look forward to and honestly 45 months probably should get more then just a respec as well

At this point I'm not seriously suggesting they STOP giving us respecs in the progression they established. I'm just saying that respecs make for such trivial Vet awards that I don't think they can stand on their own as the "only" thing we get for a particular month. Basically I'm saying that all we got for the 45 and 69 month awards were "stocking stuffers", not actual awards.

I'm sure people would scream bloody murder if the Devs ever removed items from particular Vet awards but do you think anyone would really mind if they retroactively ADDED more to any of them?

As an FYI you ought to consider using the Test server to try out new builds. I copy characters over there, respec into all sorts of crazy ideas, and then when I'm ready I'll respec them "for real" on the live servers. Keeps you from "wasting" any respec tokens.
