So yeah I just had a question, because well I am still on the trial :X

But how is the population on CoH? I noticed we had GR come out a few months back, but did that breathe some new life into it?

I just noticed I will be walking around only to find area almost completely deserted, maybe its because I am in a low pop server or whatever, but I hope this is just the issue. So yeah, how is CoH favoring in terms of active players?

Hiya.

CoH has a healthy population. However a majority of the game's content takes place in instanced missions.

Additionally many players are taking their high level characters into the special Weekly Strike Target missions. These two things can make it seem like no one is around.

Check out the Server specific forums and try to find out about Public Chat channels for team forming as those work across instances and zones.

one other thing is that given the instanced nature of the game, most players who are doing something are in a any number of instanced maps outside of your view. add in the speed of travel powers and even the 2 pack powers to get between missions fast and the use of cell phones and tips/papers that dont require running to a central quest giver more than a few times, and you will see that there arent many people loitering out in the open. broadcast generally has a bad reputation. look down in the server subforums and find out what the big ones are, dont think you can get on them in trial accounts, but you can set up meeting more expereinced players for some fun.

Allow me to shed what little bit of light I am able to shed on the subject of CoH's population.

Version 1.9 of Mids' Hero and Villain Designer, which is the build designer used the most by CoH players, was downloaded 12,475 times. One can assume this is a mere fraction of the total player base.

Pretty much all the activity is "indoors". If you want to "see" people try Freedom or Virtue, but you might get a lot of crowd noise. Try a server forum and join one of their badge channels for more teaming.

Welcome.

Questions about the game, either side? /t @Neuronia or @Neuronium, with your queries!
168760: A Death in the Gish. 3 missions, 1-14. Easy to solo.
Infinity Villains
Champion, Pinnacle, Virtue Heroes

Welcome.
Virtue strikes the perfect balance of a big crowd during prime time, and decent numbers during the rest of the day or night. In fact, during prime time, our population count OFTEN beats Freedom's these days. My work hours have me up all over the clock at various times, so I'll just say this-- my global friends list is never dark. Never. There are always at least a few names lighting it up.

Freedom has long been known for being the unofficially official Big Server, while Virtue has long been known for being the unofficially official role-playing server.

There are a LOT of role-players on Virtue. Sometimes it's entertaining just to stand near a big crowd and read all the character biographies around me (I haven't seen as many people using this feature on other servers). In fact, when it's quiet and there are few people around, those times can be a RELIEF for me. It's when I do my enhancement shopping, and maybe a few story arcs that I'd rather explore solo or with just a teammate or two.

It's one of my favorite things about the game; some people have invested a lot of thought and effort into their bios and tales. Even just standing around shopping and building things, some damned amusing stories are just a click of "info" away.

Either through bios or AE story arcs, almost all of my characters stories are intertwined and connected in some way-- or else there's only a couple degrees of separation. I have characters who can't be completely "known" without also reading other characters bios. Now with 23 characters on my roster so far, this has led to a pretty big story, all my own.

Welcome to the Community McJames!

As you can see by the responses here, not only is the CoX Community alive and well, it's extremely friendly and (most of the time ) very helpful.

In other words;

You never find a more wretched hive of...oh wait...no...
