COMBINED

NCsoft Launcher Support

  • Players can now access City of Heroes, City of Villains and City of Heroes Going Rogue via the NCsoft Launcher on Windows-based PC platforms.
  • Wisp Aura will unlock for players who use the NCsoft Launcher to access the game.
  • This aura is a limited time bonus for transition to the NCsoft Launcher.
  • The Mac version of the NCsoft Launcher will be released afterwards, and can be used to unlock the Wisp Aura for Mac customers.
  • The User Agreement is now presented after login.
  • Players who are still running CoH Updater will continue to see the User Agreement from CohUpdater as well.

  • None

PRAETORIA

Badges
  • Clarified hint text for Moral High Ground badge.

KNOWN ISSUES

Task Force Warning for Tourists
  • We are aware of an issue where Rogues or Vigilantes leading a Task Force or Strike Force who phone the TF contact from the opposing city can receive a mission door in that city, potentially blocking TF progression. A fix for this issue is being worked on.In the meantime as a workaround, please only call the TF contact while in the proper city of the contact and do not call them from Ouroboros zones or co-op zones such as Pocket D.

Stupid question, but is this new aura a limited time thing (thus we should rush to log in all of our alts now, and any new alts down the road after the 'limited time' is nup won't be able to get it), or is this something that will 'always be there' as long as we log the character we want it on at least once, via the NC Soft Launcher?

Quick clarification. I did not mean 'Limited Time Only' in a 'The Aura will go away from the character' kind of way, but instead a 'limited time where you can get it, and anyone who doesn't get it in that time is out of luck' kind of way.

Question on the new Wisp Aura...

Is this a limited time thing, or is it always unlocked by using the new launcher?

What I mean is, if I have a character that I rarely log into and start using the new launcher do I have to log into those characters now to get it? Or since I'm using the new launcher, will I get it on said characters if I don't log onto it for another month or two?

I think it is a global account reward and will be available to you for any character you have or create from then on.

I was able to create new characters with it... but yeah, it's possible I'm wrong and that once the limited time is turned off it wouldn't be available any more... I'd doubt that, but I can't say I honestly know.

That actually brings up another good question. Is this an account based reward (ala the Pocket D VIP badge) or is this a per character reward (thus you have to log on each character via the new launcher to get it)?

I think I'm having problems with the NCSoft Launcher.

It detects my two CoH installs (Live and Test) but it says the following in their properties window:

"This game does not support patching through the NCSoft Launcher."

When I launch CoH, it runs CoHUpdater, not the game itself. Is this WAI? I guess not, because I didn't get the Wisp Aura after logging into the game. Help?

[EDIT] Downloading the new game client as instructed in the just-posted news article.
[EDIT 2] No good. Made backups and removed everything (games, launcher), installed launcher, installed game through launcher... fail. CohUpdater still runs.
[EDIT 3] Found the problem. Apparently, there's an IP restriction in place for players outside of the US/Europe. I'm in South America.

Well, since it is available in the character creator for a brand new character that's never been logged in yet, I'd say it is a global account reward (like the Pocket D VIP badge).

Yes, but if you're logging on initially via the NC Soft Launcher it could be an auto unlock for the new character/character creator /because/ you're using the launcher, thus it might not be account based.

But if you want to use the Aura you need to log the character in.... Which you would do eventually...

But right now, there's no in-game indication that you only need to log in 1 character to have it available on all characters. It's currently behaving like Veteran Rewards instead of Boost Packs.

If it is, in fact, awarded to ALL characters on the account after only 1 logs in, then I think the message needs to be made clearer... @_@

Except how could it be any other way. From now on you (or soon) have to use the launcher so any character you log on with will get it. You need to log a character in to use it so why rush 'unlocking' it on every character.

Re: Unlocking the Wisp aura

I just did the following:
- Downloaded, installed, and ran the NCSoft Launcher
- Ran CoH from the Launcher
- Logged in with one character and received the "Wisp Aura Unlocked" message
- Exited CoH completely
- Ran the old CoH Updater and logged in
- Logged in with a different character and received the "Wisp Aura Unlocked" message

Based on this, it appears that by running CoH through the NCSoft Launcher once is enough to unlock the aura on all characters, without the need to log them all in at this time. I am allowed to make a new character using the wisp aura using this method too, even after switching back to the old CoH updater.

This leads me to believe the reward works like the VIP Badge and Pocket D teleporter award... IE, it's account based and will be available to any character you log in from this point forward. I'm sure we'll get some official word on the details soon, too.

Oh, and I'm digging the new launcher.

Actually the launcher isn't new. It's been around for several years and some of the other NCSoft games required it for updates. CoH could be launched and updated with it as well.
