Mask Presence....vengeance...

Tweaking my build once again....

I'm having toruble picking between 3 powers.

currently, I have double maneuvers, double assault, and mask presence....

I grabbed mask presence because with mind link up, AoE, Ranged, Melee are all above softcap, but the others are still only at about 43% or so.

with mask presence...they'e surpassed....but here's the thing.

I hate...HAAAATE being invisible....I don't like stealth powers, I realize they may be useful but the reason I play a fortunata is because unlike most defensive sets, they don't have big ugly auras and animations that cloud the way I look.

Now...without mask presence...I lose out on quite a bit of defense. (about 8%...yikes)

and I could pick up vengeance, which would push me up 25% to all defenses.....IF someone on my team died.

but it does buff the whole team which is useful.

I guess I'm looking for suggestions on what I should do... because I honestly am at a loss on what I should do.

Question about vengeance, too: If my pet dies, am I able to cast vengeance on him? or is it ONLY on teammates?

can't get earth mastery on a VEAT.

my build looks something like this now: (isn't exact...some of the slotting is slightly off because I've changed it around a little but all the stats are pretty much the same)

and yes.....I did not take hasten on purpose. I don't like it, don't care what anybody says about how good it is, I hate it with a passion and refuse to take it.

Hasten will drop the rech on psy wail by 22 seconds and dominate by 15 seconds. What do you have against it? Then minor end crash? One of the best powers in the game IMO. I'll say I myself find its "flaming fists" color annoying, but since I'm stealthed most of the time it's no biggie.

Also, you will only lose about 3.5% defense if you drop mask presence (depends on slotting of course, I think it's @ 3.8% on my NW). If you can stay softcapped w/o it then toss it, but it contributes to defense and allows you to position for controls w/o being seen. (personally... I say just roll a dominator if you're gonna skip MP, but that's just me).

Vengeance only works on players, not pets. It's situational, but nice to have if the situation arises.

As to how you should rework your build, I say take hasten and MP heh. If you can make it work without them and you enjoy the toon great but both powers will benefit the build IMO.

I like it without hasten.

I miss out on a powerpool I want for an ugly power that I really despise.

I work efficiently enough without having the hideous effects of hasten.

and I just don't like it, on any of my characters, I never have...it's not a power I like to take. Hence why I said I don't WANT to take hasten :P

I really don't understand why if you are soft capped to all 3 positions you are worried about typed defenses too. Once you softcap to the positions you are softcapped to all typed too by proxy. Defense takes the positional and typed and uses the defense you have the highest number to. Also I know you were explicitly clear on not taking hasten but I really cannot see why except for the glowie hands. On any toon there is no way that there isn't a power you could skip for hasten to improve your build. It is pretty much like throwing in 7 sets that give 10% recharge each. But it only takes at most 3 slots of a cheap regular io.

I agree with Blood that you really only need to cover positional OR delivery tags, not positional AND delivery tags. See http://paragonwiki.com/wiki/Defense. I think that's what makes Widow/Fortunatas such outstanding characters, they can get double Maneuvers and Mind Link, effectively boosting the positional and typed Def of all players on a team. But, to me (and based on the understanding that almost every power in the game has a positional tag), getting the A/R/M positional Def is more important than the typed Defense. And thus, you already get good positional defense and should capitalize on that, since a tohit check only uses your highest Def rating for Positional or Delivery.

As for Hasten, I think you made it clear. You don't like the animations, the glows, etc. Despite it's noticeable gaming advantage, you don't need it. I get that. Sometimes I get into Mids mode and min/max on paper. But when I get into a team, it doesn't matter, I could probably have SOs and still feel pretty good. Some builds, maybe the min/max means more (solo farming 8 person missions). Most characters could do without Hasten, it would show, but it probably wouldn't cause mission failure.

Good luck with the build, maybe you can post it with the modifications you made.

Maybe a few more modifications and then I'll post it.

The thing about hasten.....If I really dislike the animation of it, to the point where my original reasoning behind making a fortunata was because it's defensive powers didn't have any gaudy auras/effects....Then why would I take it?

No matter how much of an advantage hasten may gave me...if it makes me unhappy to see while I'm playing, is there really a point?

I mean, I know the obvious perks that it brings, I do...but I have found that I work quite efficiently without them, with a solid AoE and single target skill chain that recharges fast enough to be used in succession. I don't really care about the extra 20 seconds off psi wail's recharge.

I chose to be more Team friendly than...me friendly, I guess.

The reason I brought up hasten is it would open up a ton of new possibilities for your build. Making ML perma would suddenly become trivial, and you could dump the cheesy entropic chaos sets for the better decimation (if you want to keep the +rech) or the waaaay better devastations.

I see you have the heal procs slotted, I tried that route back in the day when I thought I wanted to play a fort and because of the randomness of the proc (coupled with the pathetically low heal amount) it added zero to my survivability. Carrying a few greens is a better option IMO as they have "use when ya need it" availability and are practically unlimited with the insp combine feature. Or just build for hitpoints/regen and you will have largely no heal issues (I have 27/sec on my NW and I solo pylons without needing greens, it works wonders).

Also, you have a lot of powers overslotted. Partly because of weak sets (entropic chaos I'm looking at you), partly because... I don't know really. The nucleos in static discharge and ball lightning make no sense since damage is ED capped. Also, taking tough and weave... they can both be left out if the build was reworked. If you were a NW or melee fort I could see having tough but playing as a ranged support toon it's just a needless end drain. And weave can be replaced too, but it would involve a build overhaul.

You obviously enjoy your fort, and I can see that you are investing some expensive sets in there, but you could honestly have a -seriously- epic toon if you reworked some things with the slotting and power pool choices.

Which comes full circle again as to why I (and others) keep suggesting it. Don't worry, I -know- you hate the power so no need to reply to this defending your stance on not taking hasten, I'm just rienforcing the idea that it could potentially alter your entire build and bring it to a whole new level if you considered it. I could even post a reworked build later today based on your power picks and you can see what hasten will improve.

It trains 0.536 more end....whoopdie do.

I like weave, and I like tough, no talking me out of that, since even though I'm ranged, I'm in melee range a lot supporting my team.

The entropics are temporary untill I get more money saved up, althoughs lotting decimation hardly makes a difference, and only raises the damage by about 2 points, hardly changes the recharge of them...

I'm actually saving up for an apoc in my subdue and decimations in my other ST ones.

the nucleolus is in static discharge to increase the range of it, I had an extra on my toon so I just put it in there since it wouldn't cost me anything.

I don't really feel the need to be "Epic"

I have my uses and I handle myself as a pretty good widow on my server, so I'm happy enough with that ^^ I'm just trying to improve small parts of it without changing my power choices at all.

I would never considder making a Fortunata or Night Widow without Mask Presence. It just can't work for me. It's not situational and vengence is.

My Fortunata build has some melee, and the crit is excellent. I fight like a scrapper with her because to me regardless of her range she was designed to be in the forefront with the melee crowd to always have Mind link available to those folks.

When in Night Widow mode (Which I preffer) I would never not take the stealth. I just can't fathom why anyone would not.

But those are my oppinions and both my Fortunata and my Night Widow are possibly my most effective soloists and team players.

I took that, and vengeance instead of the mu pet. I like that the VEAT's vengeance is also a self-buff, too.

I have a question: If in mids the damage% shows red, does that mean it can't be increased anymore? Like if I put an apocalypse in subdue, or an armageddon in psi wail, will the damage output still be able to increase?

If it's read it means it's suffering the worst of DR (15% of normal gains). Generally means any more enhancement to that aspect won't yield significant returns.

Awh so when it shows the damage nearly double from apocalypse it isn't actually doubling the damage? >< nuuuuuuu.

I was hoping I'd pop an 800 damage subdue xD

unf >_> I guess it's still worth it to get the bonuses from purple sets though if I have the extra money...

The text in red means that enhancement diversification (ED) is in effect, which as Stolid points out is a type of diminishing return on the value: it's hard to get a value much over 100% on a power because of this. One of the things that the Alpha slot does that is so nice is a portion of its value ignores ED, based on the level of the slot (1/6th to 2/3rds).

Also the purple sets aren't "must haves", you can build an awesome toon without them but they have three real advantages over the lesser sets. One is offer the biggest bonuses available in the game: 10% recharge, 3% health, 16% regeneration... whatever the set offers it is the largest available. Two is the procs happen more frenquently, 33% I believe compared to 5-10% for standard procs. Lastly, you retain 100% of their bonuses even if you exemplar to level 1. Other sets can lose a significant portion of their bonuses, but the purples do not.

I see....

so really, don't look at the stats that the purples will give my powers because they might not actually be worth it?

but look moreso at the set bonuses and see if I really want them?

works for me.
