The problem here is that, while you can run on all fours, your characters are still bipedal. They have their hands free while standing.

So look at how lemurs jump. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CnPM28rNmkY

Gotta agree with MajorDecoy. While your character, for whatever reason you choose, may be able to move much faster by loping on all fours their natural center of balance is still that of a bipedal humanoid therefore when they jump they will naturally try and keep their feet below them for the landing.

Even Beast of X-Men fame who loped on all fours was wont to jump in an upright position.

At least make the audio sound LESS like a horse.

And maybe add a growl, snarl or roar when jumping! I haven't checked yet, did they fix the male grunt for jumping female toons bug?

I agree with this request. My characters are wolves or felines (dev limited choices) not howler monkeys or lemurs (who, by the way, leap upright to land with all fours on a vertical surface such as a tree trunk).

As for the whole bipedal center of balance argument, bull feathers. Due to time and available effort constraints none of the animal/monstrous legs are proportioned correctly, and therefore also not animated correctly*. The same constraints are why the leaping animation in Beast Run is the same (minus the flip) as in Ninja Run.

*Personally I suspect that redoing the walk/run animation was too much work, therefore the shortcut was taken to make the proportions incorrect in order to continue using the current animations.

Check out the Repeat Offenders network of SGs! You'll be glad you did.

Making a new animation for walking and running would have required making a new skeleton for beasts. Making a new skeleton for beast would require making a new animation for every power in the game, except for passives. Also making a new animation for every power in the game for the new skeleton while flying. And for all that work, people would get one gender of beast.

Adding a costume item allows digitigrade appearance on three genders without having to make new animations for every power in the game six times.

And while your characters are canine and feline, do please remember that their skeletons are still more primate than not.

Actually it is not. When you jump, you effectively launch your center of balance (upper body for men and hips for women) toward your target and then move your base (in our case; feet and legs) under your center of balance for the landing. No one taught you how to jump like that, it's just the natural mechanics of the human body.
