Hey all,

Does / did anyone think that when designing their WS build that there are WAY to much stuff going on? Too many powers to pick from? not enough slots. my screen looks a mess!

I've got my WS to 18 now and kinda lost the love for him I have read that the fun starts around 20+ but I don't see how

I'm going though Mids trying to build a good dwarf build and i'm lost. Can I get some help so I can feel the love for my WS again?

Thanks in advance

I felt the 'trick' to building mine was to consider most of the powers I'd use in normal play, or never use at all, can be great mules. Concealment pool and CJ hold 4 of the 5 lotgs, for example.

Are you looking to play exclusively dwarf?

Okay, I've got your build up, and.... well, we'll cover that in a minute. First off let me ask: are you trying to PLAY this build as you level up? Because it's a really really really really bad build to level up on. No wonder you're miserable at level 18; none of your attacks are slotted for damage. And if you think it's going to get any more fun post level 20 then I'm sorry to tell you it isn't if you're leveling this build.

Okay, here's some comments about the build, from low to high:

Take Gravimetric Snare. It doesn't seem like it does much, but that's because it's a dot. Those Galaxy Archons with the council that give you so much trouble? They're using a version of Gravimetric Snare. You use it too. Take it in place of either Ebon Eye or Shadow Bolt. I don't care which.

Don't slot Sunless Mire for damage. Slot in an accuracy and two or three recharge. Move the extra slots elsewhere.

Like damage in your attacks, for instance. You obviously took Gravity Well thinking it's only a hold, but IT'S YOUR HEAVIEST ATTACK! Slot it for damage. And that goes for your other attacks in human form. They need at least one or two damage slots.

Also, if you're going to be spending any time in human form at all - and I'm guessing you should - you'll definitely want to consider taking AND SLOTTING orbiting death. It can be put off until the later levels, but when you're running around with Inky Aspect and Gravitic Emanation keeping entire spawns perma-stunned, it will contribute significantly to your human form damage.

Oh wait. You didn't take. Gravitic Emanation. Sigh. Take and slot Gravitic Emanation. It might have knockback, but you can stealth and knock them back into a wall or corner. It's key to clumping groups together for a well-saturated mire and eclipse.

And for the love of large growling lobsters slot eclipse with Damage Resistance!! The more you slot, the fewer mobs you need to sap to reach the resistance cap.

Take Hasten. With hasten you can have two extracted essences out pretty much all the time, which will double your dps. And then you can take super speed and combine that with shadow cloak for true void-killing stealth. (Another reason to slot Gravity Well with damage is to KILL VOIDS as you hold them)

You probably don't need to slot stamina. Stygian Circle is THAT powerful.

Use sunscreen. Couldn't hurt.

Okay, with that list out of the way, let's look at Black Dwarf. By the look of your slotting, you're expecting to spend the majority of your time in Dwarf Mode.

Which is not necessarily a bad thing. Black Dwarf can be very fun, but the way you're slotted will make you absotively posilutely MISERABLE until you reach the higher levels.

First, slot the form with three damage resistance and call it a day. The endurance modification you get from Dwarf is only enough to pay for the toggle, and Stamina now works in forms, anyway. Slot the damage resistance early if you're going to be spending any time at all in dwarf.

Now, with the attacks - consider slotting for recharge much, much earlier than you have. As in- right after a single accuracy slot. Nothing kills a dwarf quicker than standing around not attacking. I don't care how much damage you're attacks do, you will die in dwarf ALOT if you're standing around in a spawn waiting for them to recharge. Hasten will also help with this.

Okay, start there. More experienced Warshade players than I will give you better advice than I. Read their guides. Check out the bind/strategy thread in my signature (and stickied at the top of the forum) - it will make your time on your kheld easier, I swear.

Glad to see you're enjoying it already. I can't take a look at your build now (Mids was not deemed necessary in the eyes of my employer), but I can say that Joe offered some very good suggestions. My guide does cover a few build methods as well.

I hope you find everything you were looking for, and that it helps you to enjoy your warshade more than ever.

I have finally had about 2 hours at work where I can go though my build.

If you would be so kind going through my build I would really appreciate it;

Note: I don't know about the slot levels yet, hoping that I can spend an hour or so on it today

Hello,

Did anyone manage to take 2 minutes out and have a look at my build, its the weekend soon and I really wanted to respec my WS

Thanks!

Generally, I like it.

Couple suggestions:

1) I'd rather see Unchain Essence slotted for damage. On SO/Common IOs, it's not up often enough to rely on as a stun. When you do get to use it, let it kill things.

2) Stygian Circle has way too many slots in it, and the wrong kind of enhancement. The heal is wasted, because without enhancement you almost always heal to full when you use it if there's more than one body nearby. The end mod is nice, but I wouldn't put more than one IO's worth in there. Try one end mod, one recharge.

3) Spread the slots you saved around. Unchain could use another slot for damage, Dwarf Drain could use a slot for heal.

I'll warn you now, this build is going to suck some endurance down, since nothing has end reduction in it. If you can spare some slots for it, endurance reduction in AoE attacks will really help, but it's not necessary. You have Stygian Circle, and with the one recharge enhancement I suggested, it should be ready every time you need to fill up.

That's all I got.

@ the OP I feel the same way. I get many things in the game but I will admit I'm a simpleton when it comes to this AT.

I read up on Dech's thread which I will also complement how good it is. But even that I will probably have printed out and next to me to run through the motions and powers on green con mobs. I have a Warshade at 36 from years ago I just would not have a clue what to do with at this time.

First question did you set up any macros? If not get the tray/form and tp macros for dwarf/human forms pronto. They make everything very much easier. Keep the powers you want to see the recharge on in a bar that isn't changing, like eclipse, hasten, mire.

Gravitic Emanation makes soloing very easy for you. Dwarf form is durable prior to eclipse but slotted dwarf mire that way will be spamming 15 endurance every 10 seconds. Be mindful, if your in a position to be spamming it your usually fighting something you don't want to drop out of the dwarf form for Stygian circle. That changes after eclipse but there is a road before that wonderful power is slotted and perma.

I recommend (I know this is a SO only build) doing the tips when you can for a knock back IO to put in absorption. Getting knocked back or down will put a kink in the combos you will be running later(like eclipse>mire>dwarf>mire attack).

Have Fun!

Definitely 2nd this sentiment. Been playing for 6 years and have a little of everything, have never been able to get the groove going on my WS. He's at 38 now but feel FAR from comfortable on him still.

And also agree, Dechs guide was great.

Yeah, Dechs, I had a WS stalled out at 20 just a little while ago. I'm a consummate altoholic, but I finally got fed up and said, "I want one character at level 50! At least one!" As a point of reference, I've been playing since I2 and have no character higher than level 38. I've never even seen an Ancillary Pool. Heh. So I chose Dr. Arcanem, my 'Shade, as my first to 50, figuring he can tank, blast, control, summon pets, and stealth--all at the same time. And I have to say, the first time I did a fully saturated Mire + Gravity Well to kill a minion + Unchain Essence, my jaw dropped. The spawn just evaporated. All thanks to your wonderful guide!

To the OP: as you may remember from Dechs' guide, flexibility and willingness to adapt are some of the Warshade's greatest strengths. You need to be ready to shift forms as the situation demands, hold or kill troublesome mezzers or buffers, keep your mires up, and keep an eye on your health so you can plan for Stygian Circle. I can tell you right now that binds help IMMENSELY. As a tri-form 'Shade, not every power you take can get slotted up, and many of them (particularly without access to Ancillary or Patron pools) will be used only as mules for uniques. Figure out which powers you can remove from your tray altogether. Figure out which powers you use most often, and group them so that they're easy to reach. Create binds that both shapeshift you and select the tray with form-appropriate powers. Create binds that turn on travel powers and stealth, and ones that turn them off again. The more binds you have, the less cluttered your trays are going to look, and the more you can focus on eating souls. Moist and delicious.

Actually, I found the opposite to be true. Not enough slots, but too many pointless powers. The only human attacks I took were Gravity Emanation, Gravity Well, and Ebon Eye. I have numerous powers that just have only one slot in them like Grant Invisibility, Invisibility, Maneuvers, and Combat Jumping just so I can slot my pets better and add the LotG recharge global bonus.

My common strategy is Superspeed + Shadow Cloak into a mob, activate Eclipse, activate Nova, then blast everything until nothing is left, then use Stygian Circle to heal up and use Dark Extraction if it is up.

The first step in being sane is to admit that you are insane.

Might I recommend using one (or both!) Mires before Quasar? You only give up a second or two of time, but you gain a lot of time because of the sheer number of dead mobs.

Knew I forgot a step. Haven't played my 'Shade in a while. And I meant Dark Nova instead of Quasar. Quaser seems a bit too situational when I solo against +0/x6.

I dunno about you, but my Quasar's up for every other spawn or so, and I use it frequently, especially on higher difficulties. There are three scenarios you can use Quasar without fear:

1. You have a blue inspiration and will kill more than one foe with Quasar. You want the corpses close together, of course, so it's often best to fire Quasar from the fringe of a mob instead of the very center. This will push all the enemies in the same direction. After you've gone boom, just hop over to the corpse pile, eat your blue and activate Stygian Circle

2. You have Eclipse ready to fire and Quasar will not kill everything near you (that part's tough, for this I suggest higher level foes or just run to the next group). Eclipse has two lesser known properties: It fills your endurance bar and the endurance cost for it is less than one. All you need is a single tiny sliver of endurance and you can use it.

3. You have Geas of the Kind ones ready to use. Self explanitory, and with all the recharge you should be packing, this will be ready in less than ten minutes.

As others have said, squeezing as much damage out of as few slots as possible is key for a Kheldian. My usual advice is, even when leveling, keep your eyes open for cheap Acc/Dam and End/Dam IOs. Don't try to build sets, just try to squeeze a little more damage out of the slots you're using for something else. It can be a huge benefit in the low levels.

The WS REALLY hits his stride in the 30s. It's not difficult if you slot right for the 20s, but it only starts to get REALLY fun when you start getting Unchain Essence and Dark Extraction at 26 and 32. Stygian Circle only starts to give the feeling for "I AM the MFing Warshade! Bring me more bodies! Bwahahahah!", but the more powers you can pile onto that the more that feeling grows. And then when you get Eclipse...
