Electric armor advice

sry, screwed up my acronyms in the other thread.

What's a good def to shoot for capping for Electric Armor? S/L seems just barely doable, and I question how efficient it is for ELA, since anything close to you is going end hungry quickly. Ranged seems to overlap with capped energy, though it's nice for psi.

Suggestions from the experienced? Thanks!

S/L is indeed the best. With capped energy resistance and softcapped S/L def you have the 3 main damage types covered. For a brute your build focus after the S/L softcap is more recharge IMO, which makes you better both offensively and defensively thanks to Energize and Power Sink.

Its a pain, but if you slot NERVE in your Alpha, your 2nd tier gets you a defense boost. That helped my electric brute out greatly to get close to the soft-cap on S/L

My SM/ElA decided to focus on recharge and toss the def out the window. It works well in general, but faceplants on tough enemies that like to do a lot of -def (aka, romans). I've got some def from weave and CJ and now a DN I can drop, so that helps some. I might shift some of my +rech bonuses to +def as my spiritual alpha matures though, now that it is an option.

I wouldn't recommend softcapping defense on an /ElA toon simply because it requires too big of a sacrifice in other areas. And as soon as you get to fight def debuffing mobs (heloooo cimmies), all of that slotting is wasted.

Personally I'd go for permahaste and as much positional defense I could get, which should be about 30% melee, 25% ranged and 20% AoE with proper Alpha slotting.

Good point, getting 45% S/L is pretty hard/expensive. However with a really expensive and alpha'd build the sacrifices are really minimal to non-existant. My SS/Elec has Hasten just a few seconds away from Perma(before the FF +rech proc), lots of HP, Regen, and S/L softcapped. As for cimmies, I find the softcapped defenses give me enough time to drain them dry, so it's still very helpful.

I must say I haven't tried typed defenses on an /ElA toon with Alpha slots, I'll definitively have to check it. I assume you went Spiritual?

Yep, I went for Spiritual. Here's the build:

Looks great. I made one myself in the meantime and came to almost the same results. Well, maybe not that close because I don't use purple sets, but it's close enough. End consumption is a bit worse (but who cares, we have PS) non-SL defenses are 4% lower and regen took the biggest hit, being only 32 hp/s. It also saps a bit worse because I just love Gloom too much hehe, but I don't think BL saps that much anyway.

Here it is:

Oh. I forgot I don't need much accuracy because of Rage so I may as well switch those Crushing Impacts with procs.

Yep that looks really solid.

I had a hard time deciding between Mu and Soul, but decided to go for Mu for the extra draining power, the lower endurance costs(less time using power sink=more DPS), better AoE, and the extra recharge on the ST attack which gives about the same if not more DPS than gloom in cases where melee isn't a possibility(blue hami mitos, battle maiden on blue patches, tentacle covered pylons).

lol Sry I can't recommend slotting for soft cap s/l, just take your Tier 9 and hold a lot of inspirs it's not brain surgery you aren't/shouldn't be the main tank since most of the game is s/l damage and the max at this point is 63% to it outside of teir 9, and that's with cardic core paragon.

So I only slotted for energy/negative def so I can bush farm with my EL x3 brute. But for things like ITF and other tfs along those lines. I would suggest a full tray of purples and tier 9 god mode. With your heal, endo power, plus attacking should keep you alive. I've made room for my tier 9 and keep tier 3 purples on me at all times.

I have to disagree with everyone that says not to soft cap s/l. The only other thing you would want to slot for is rech and you get dminishing returns which means anything over about 60% rech is kind of a waste. And 60% rech, on an /elec no less, will be really easy to get and still soft cap. And once you get to that soft capped you will find even against romans your def doesnt dip too far. Of course, its not cheap.

Or another option, don't go softcap, but get to 32.5%. One small purple when you need it and you're at the cap. Then focus on HP, regen, recharge or whatever suits your fancy.

Normally I would say go for softcap if at all possible, but for /elec, you should build for other things first: recharge most importantly (for energize, power sink, and power surge), +hp, and +regen. After that get as much defense as you can, either up to 32.5% (one small purple away) or 20% (two small purples or a medium purple) and combine your insps for lucks. You can keep yourself softcapped with the lucks while still having great resistance and great regen/heal. That much layered mitigation will truly make you unstoppable.

It looks like the problem is really with elec/elec. Getting 5 KC means taking Punch and Kick, which makes power choices a premium. I guess I could forego Tough. Reactive is easier to compensate for than KC. 41% s/l res is good enough with capped def, though obviously it'll be missed in places like Cimerora.

Posted

Getting enough ST attacks was my problem with my Elec/Elec. My S/L defense stands at 37% with one set of KC still needed (using Smashing Haymaker) and all armors using Reactives including Tough. I had respecced out of a positional defense build where I had about 25% melee def, and I feel like I am doing quite a bit better in comparison, especially now with the Spiritual uncommon slotted. I would like to take the S/L defense higher and I appreciate the thoughts in the thread.

Cheers

I got to 45 in Mids by taking Punch and Kick for 5 KC, 3 Reactives, Enfeebled Operation in the Epic, 3 Oblits, Weave and Maneuvers. Exactly 45, but that's good enough. I guess you could give up Hasten or Lightning Field for Tough, but I'm thinking it's a pretty good layered protection build this way.

Posted

You don't have to take Kick. Brawl, Boxing, Charged Brawl, Havoc Punch, and Chain Induction. Havoc Punch is pretty skippable, but not as skippable as Kick for sure.

I made a softcapped build a while back for Elec/Elec, but looking back at it now it sacrifices a bit too much for my liking.
