Resist Energies and Resist Elements...yes or not?
They aren't exceptionally good powers, but I'd still pick them. They double your exotic Resistances and grant useful bonuses on top of that in the form of -End and Slow Resistance. You can easily put them in late into the build.

I vote yes. I find each of them very helpful (both for resistances and debuff resists), and with inherent fitness there's more than enough room to take them.
I'd never skip them on a tank. On a scrapper it feels much more like a personal preference. I didn't take them on my MA/Inv. But if I ever get around to respeccing him (as he still has the fitness pool, which has since been changed to an inherent), I think I will take them. I would be taking them mainly for the status resists over the damage resists, though.
They also save you a slot for putting in a 3% IO. And if you're rich, a spot for both IOs.

They changed the fitness pool to be inherent recently (you get all 4 powers automatically at level 2), but they couldn't make the change to already existing builds. So, old builds that were created before I19 have to respec to get the inherent fitness.

As far as the passives, I'd take them. I have done a lot of (practical and theoretical) builds on DM/Inv, and I've rarely, if ever, been so strapped for powers that I felt like dropping one of these to access something else that would give me bigger advantages. I run into the power pool limit of 4 before that happens.
Slotting them is a different matter. Many of my builds just stick to the default slot with one resistance enhancement.

I'd personally never skip them, especially now with Inherent Fitness.
That said, I may or may not take them as soon as they became available.

If you're going for a defensive build (and why are you taking Invuln if you aren't interested in survivability?) then you should ALWAYS take these two.
They're inherents, they give you more resists, they have useful debuff resists, and they are places to mule defense IO's.
I almost always go with 4 slots in each, and either pop in four reactives or three Aegis and a +defense proc.
Inv has good levels of DDR, so the more +Defense you can cram onto one, the better it runs.
I would not skip them. Every little bit helps. When you've got 26% to 28% (30% with Cardiac Core Paragon) on F/C/E/N Resists, Siphon Life constantly topping off your HP, and Dull Pain putting you at the HP cap, it all adds up and helps with more than just taking the edge off the incoming damage.
Plus, they add some useful Debuff Resistances that won't make you completely helpless against various effects. That's even more utility on top of all the things DM/Inv already has: ToHit debuff, Immobilize, +Self Heal, capped HP, +Endurance, +ToHit, and a powerful Fear with a huge amount of ToHit debuff if you decide to take Touch of Fear as well.
Unyielding already gives you a good amount of F/C/E/N Resist, so you might as well add to it. Hell, with my latest build they actually house the IOs I need to complete the set bonuses I need.
In my build I have all of the Invulnerability powers. Even Unstoppable, although that one is just used to slot a 3% Defense Gladiator IO.

Historical * Prior to Issue 19, the Fitness pool was a selectable power pool instead of an inherent powerset. Characters created prior to Issue 19 will still have the non-inherent Fitness Power Pool if they had selected any powers from that pool prior to its removal. However, the pool no longer appears in the list of power pools for characters reaching level 6 either through normal play or by performing a respec. |
Thankies for all the advice, it's helping greatly! ^_^
I'm now exporting my current build to mid's designer, so i can open a new thread about it.
I'll need more help about how to proceed. :\
Hello there,
back to COH after years away, i'm a DM/Inv scrapper, level 34.
I'm overwhelmed by the amount of changes I have to deal with... I've read several guides/threads concerning Inv... but I fear some are obsolete, so I can't get to understand:
Are Resist Energies and Resist Elements *skippable* in a DM/Inv build?
If so, what powers are people replacing them with?
Thanks for your help!
