Is this it?
So hearing all the rage about Fire/Kin Controllers and such I decided to roll one as I have been playing a Fire/Kin Corrupter and thought hey good dps and CC..I'm there!
Well lvl 20 so far and yes I know that 20 levels do not define an AT but I'm just getting bored and tired of playing this guy. Sure ever since I got my Aoe Root I can handle +0/x8 spawns myself and at a lower lvl they died fairly fast...but now its slowwww going and if I fight anything that is a boss or has mez protection/resistance god forbid if they have both it takes ages for me to kill it. While yes this is all solo and if grp'd this build is fun, I tend to short man or solo alot So am I missing something, yes FS is great at adding dps but it takes me a bit to take down a full spawn and even longer to do single targets. Bonfire is great but its pretty much it untill I hit APP/PPP and while yes these abilities are nice and will add dps I just dont see me doing much untill then. So untill 41+ its grp based and powerlevel I guess. Dominator here I come! |
Fire/Kin hype is just related to farming. They farm well. Even back then, they were not the fastest, since some tanks could farm other maps/mishs and get a lot more. Specially built fire/fire blasters would also farm better... hero side.
They are terrible toons to solo 1-31 or even 1-37. My fire/rad and mind/kin solo'd a lot better and smoother than a fire/kin would. My ill/rad will leave both of them in the dust and would compete with scrappers for speed in 1-50soloing.
Don't go back to Dominators because of an experience with fire/kin. You want to be impressed with a solid controller to solo? Try an illusion controller. Want to pair it up with /kin? Play an ill/kin. An illusion controller, with /rad, especially, will be an awesome solo controller. Take one of those and call me back in about 3-4 months. :-)

Make all IO's available in Paragon Market! NCSoft, the chinese are making BIG money selling influence and other stuff in the game. Best way to stop them = make the paragon market a place to buy all IO's and perhaps other things as well.
Fire Controllers are a great deal of fun. Depending upon your secondary and your play style they can be slow or fast.
It doesn't really take off though until you get your Imps at level 32.
I think I have have tried them all now, except for /Force Field and am never disapointed.
The two I have at 50 /Emp and /Rad and completely different and worth the effort.
Whether /Kin is Farmer Hype or not I really couldn't tell you. They are tough and can do a lot of damage.
At the lower levels Fire Controllers are slowish if you solo but still entertaining. My /Trick Arrow is somewhere in the mid twenties now. She can't kill very quickly yet but there is nothing funnier then watching her lock down pretty much everything in the room. When I get my Imps they will feast.
Enjoy your day please.
I am not exactly sure what rage you have been listening. I have been saying since i6, when I rolled a fire/rad, and since i7, when he hit 50:

Well, the problem is that it's such a late blooming combo. It really doesn't become a great soloer until you get FS.
Over the years Fire/Kins have been overhyped as farmers and also I think they're underhyped for team play. It really is great at level 50, all the goodies of kin while providing damage and controls. Not to mention that I think AoE immobs are underrated.

Whoah no wonder you're not liking the combo. You're casting a power that does like base 10 damage (20 contained) at level 50.
Seems to me like you'd be better off dialing down the spawn size, using your ST Hold and Immob and closing with the mobs with Hotfeet for damage. Heck, you might be able to take out eight x1 spawns that way in the time it takes to whittle down a single x8 spawn with the AoE Immob.

It's still end heavy post level 22. Yes, I know Transference covers it, but it's still a pain. FF is too slow for my own playstyle as well. I'm still leveling a Fire/kin and Fire/storm, but even at level 26 for both the returns have been disappointing even knowing both bloom late. Fire currently ranks as my least favorite controller primary, but we'll see. It's Fire, or Grav, but at least Grav has had moments of fun.
