Shield tank, brute, or scrapper?

Well, if Rommie is considered a raid mob, taunts have a chance to miss, right?

That's kind of an exception, tho. Apparently, the devs want aggro to deviate on some mobs but even then, aggro diminishes as one takes damage too. If you're not taking damage cause you're supported by teammates, threat builds faster than it diminishes.

Uh, what? No, I'm pretty sure Romulus is just a regular AV in that regard.

Aggro has nothing to do with how much damage you're taking. You think Statesman is going to peel off you because he brought you to 1hp and thinks well gee, they learned their lesson?

Scrappers with taunt auras can and do pull aggro off Tankers because they do more damage. If you read this (specifically the formula Castle posted for threat) you'll see damage is a factor in it.

And by "still be able to hold aggro" read "rip AV aggro off tanks who aren't continually taunting."

This has been a problem for me in a few TFs I've run. Sometimes you have to turn it off so the AV quits looking at you funny. The flip side of that, of course, was ghost widow blowing her heal on me... and missing. Gogogadgetsoftcap. That was nice.

OP: You weren't real specific about the concept, but I'd plug both Kat/SD and BS/SD from the scrapper area if they'd fit. Parry is nice when leveling because you can hit that softcap to melee/lethal earlier. Shield is kinda a late bloomer.

One flipside: if you want to be a tank, AAO's aggro aura is amazing.

Varies by tank, of course. You're probably not pulling aggro off Shield Tankers, and probably not Invuln Tankers either (those two have the strongest taunt auras). It would not surprise me at all to see Shield Scrappers and Brutes stealing aggro from Willpower Tanks, however, or other tanks with weaker taunt auras.

Nope!

I was pulling aggro off a SD Tanker with my SS/FA Brute the other day and also:

Isn't taunt autohit against anything other than enemy players?

Thanks very much for the feedback, folks! I've finally settled on a scrapper, so we'll see how it goes.

Minor nitpick/threadjack but Ice has the best taunt aura. Chilling embrace fires off every .5 seconds with a mag 4 taunt Invuln and Shield have theirs each fire off a mag 4 taunt once a second.

I won't refute which one is better than which because I don't know for sure, but with taunts, the magnitude isn't really that important - the duration is, because it's the duration that determines the threat multiplier. (Taunt is not, despite intent, an "on/off" mez. Instead, it adds a multiplier to your "threat" rating on each target it applies to. This is in PvE, of course. I think it actually works how it's intended to in PvP.)

I've never been clear on whether it stacks or not; it's possible that 13.5s every half second is superior to 16.875s every second. If taunt stacks, Chilling Embrace is likely to be the strongest. However, if it does not (and I don't think it does; only the longest duration applies, IIRC), then AoO/Invincibility are the strongest.

Duration is why Willpower's taunt is the weakest; RttC only gives a 1.25s duration taunt.
