What do you like in your roleplaying?
uhmm Depends... so many things...
Like to develop personal stories, and all that..
While on missions I really like to stay IC and give comments that way... even have arguments, etc... that makes missions far better for me...
"What counts is not what sounds plausible, not what we would like to believe, not what one or two witnesses claim, but only what is supported by hard evidence rigorously and skeptically examined. Extraordinary claims require extraordinary evidence." - Carl Sagan
I like light roleplaying...I also like dark roleplaying....
I do like....more light-hearted, humored stuff sometimes....but not so much the people who make it almost...TOO much like themselves, where they're spurting out memes and going all willy nilly(to me, a hero or villain wouldn't...do that, even in downtime.)
uhm.....I like when characters have a critical flaw too. Like my main's critical flaw would be his Temper, and his recent addictions.
Magisterum- 50+3 Fortunata--Virtue
Lukerion- 33 Emp/Rad Defender--Virtue
Noah Heartily- 34 SS/SD brute- Virtue
Mika Heartily- 50+1 Fire/MM blaster-Virtue
****! I like **** in my RP. Sue me.

My favorite? "If I say something stupid, I blame X." Where X is usually something that happened on the last mission. Most frequent? Head trauma. Especially if she winds up floored more than once in a single mission.
Making jokes in her downtime about getting horrifically injured (being a Regen and all) is her way of coping, though. She insists to herself that the injuries aren't serious so she doesn't freak out over some of the stuff that happens to her. My other characters have different ways of coping.
Having some sort of character flaw is a must, in my opinion. Even if a character isn't very powerful, if they don't have flaws... Then they're just kind of flat.
Heh, yeah. I try to keep my snarky comments fairly sparse for that reason. Though I have a few personal jokes I wind up using nearly every time I team up. (Though never all on one mission.)

like I don't...play him as godly, but he's telekinetic, and also has super strength.
a lot of people seem to thinnk tat's super overpowered. Although I constantly do get threats from non-supers saying "I will kill you" or "you can't kill me" which I find hilarious >o>

yeah...although I'm beginning to wonder if I made my character TOO strong.

"I'm a Telekinetic and Super Strong!"
"How strong is super strong?"
"As much as I can lift with telekinesis!"
"OMG! YOU ARE OPed!"
See the silliness in people saying super strong is OPed with telekinesis.
That's like saying you can't be Super Strong with any melee set other than Super Strength.
"I use Dual Blades and I have SUper Strength!"
"How strong is your super strength!"
"Strong enough to put these dual blades through a tank!"
"OMG! YOU ARE OPed!"
Yeah...now while this wouldn't work with all power sets, saying your Super Strong isn't OPed with a long of concepts.

So she's described as essentially having Super Strength, but only for throwing punches and the like. She can flip a car, but she can't hold it over her head, y'know?
I actually had that concept in mind for over a year, never found a powerset I felt fit it. I'd have made her a regular Super Strength, but she's not a Brute or Tanker type of character. Energy Melee came close, but just didn't do it for me. Then Kinetic Melee got added.
I love you, devs.
I find bios, even short ones, a pleasant distraction during downtime. Like when I'm unconscious waiting for Vengeance or Rez or whatever, I like to have something to read. Even if it's a summarized menu of powers and origin.
As for commentary, usually only if someone in the team starts it. and then I might comment on the legitimacy of said villain group or their methodologies.
Life is pleasant. Death is peaceful. It's the transition that's troublesome.

I like seeing the bubbles that let you know someone's typing. Don't care what it says, just as long as it's there.
I've apparently grown accustomed to players who can keep up a pretty fast paced level of banter and emote actions. Keeps things lively.
Also, adaptable players. RP PuGS can be incredibly fun. So a merc, a demon, a robot, a catgirl, and costumed villain are out to bust heads. Just roll with it. Spontaneity -can- lead to just as much entertainment as the plot you've spend weeks working on.
Tales of Judgment. Also here, instead of that other place.
good luck D.B.B.
I have to admit, playing characters that fit into the game world is much more conducive to spontaneous RP than grab bag selections from other genres. For instance, a team made up of:
An actual Praetorian, acting like one
A legit evil mastermind-type villain from the Isles
An expat hero, whether full-on evil or just vigilante
An SOA as an SOA, whether formal or on Destined One discharge
Is ripe with all kinds of potential.
Some characters fit into the game world better than others, and it's much easier to get compatibility when all that lines up.
I prefer more serious atmospheres than complete randomness to be honest. I like being able to approach a stranger and both express mutual maturity to the other while RPing each character's persona pretty well.
I have so many different characters that they sort of have their own mode of interation based on the character and roughly the server.
Generally, if someone else is RP'ing in the group then I'm more than willing to do it. Depending on the team, we'll just stand there sometimes RP'ing unless an ambush runs up.
Many teams RP'ing, depending on the group, or just chatting in general if someone is afk.
I try to make sure to get the greetings, hellos, heyahs, and what not out (based on charater) to anyone the joins a group or if I join one - at the very least interaction.
I'm lible to make some kind of comment if things are going well or if I'm flat on my back (try to avoid that if at all possible).
Yelling out an RPG rant for some kind of buff seems to make peopel go crazy, so I stopped those rants.
I do try to have a battle cry and a couple macros for emotes w/ some chats. I don't have costume change emotes made on all my characters yet, but I have put them on many of them. I sometimes have the charcters yell out something as they change or have a "power-up" emote with rant before the actual costume change.
I definately like to use emotes if I think about it while I'm standing outside of missions. Some charaters always breaking out the boombox usally with their own tune. The drums are a favorite too.
I added this becaused I figured that counts as RP'ing.
I haven't done any standing around in the Pocket D rp'ing, but I run through it from time to time ... usually on Virtue. Most of the other Pocket D's are mostly empty it seems (unless there a special event going on in there or the ski chalet and you will find some people there usually standing around RP'ing.) At least that's been my general experience.
Yes I know this is silly, but I like having an explanation for inexplicable abilities. Screw me.

Technically, most super-strength is telekinesis. Superman for example is able to lift gigantic things like airplanes, tankers or train cars, often just holding them by one end. Which is fine for him, he's like super-everything. But that thing he's holding isn't. Even if you had the strength to lift up a plane by its nose, the stress and its own weight would still tear it in half. Does that ever happen to Supes? No. So his strength must somehow affect the entire plane evenly, which would really fall into the realm of telekinetic abilities.

And yeah, most super strength is just a limited form of telekinesis. "Limited" being the keyword, since they can't lift stuff at a distance... or punch straight through someone's squishy, squishy torso.
Since the old complaint thread rose from the dead, I figured we could use a thread to be, y'know, positive.
Just tell us what you like and maybe why you like it. Character quirks, bios, scenarios you found fun and memorable, that sort of thing.
So I'll start us off:
My personal preference is for light role playing and snark during missions. Mostly in the form of the occasional witty (supposedly) one liner. Or making fun of myself for getting floored. It helps that I main a Regen who has, by level 50, gotten used to having to regrow limbs.
I like dark and 'brooding' characters that aren't too dark and brooding. My token brooder, whose had a cosmic horror playing with him like a puppet for a while, is a pretty cheerful guy now that he's no longer under the influence. A cheerful guy who's still all 'business' about bringing in villains. And isn't the least bit opposed to lethal force if it comes to it. (Though I like to imply he just shoots to wound most of the time. He's not a Punisher styled 'kill-absolutely-everybody' type of guy.)
And perhaps my favorite is when a character has a memorable but not too annoying quirk. I've got a cheerful android red side who ends every other sentence with 'yes'. I just find it cute and silly.
One of my friends plays a cat girl, who is essentially a parody of the concept. Her bio is short and to the point: "Most people who like cats just get a cat. She became a cat themed super hero. Yeah, she's not all there." She's also played to fit, since she'll spontaneously shout "I'm a kitty!" or give a seemingly forced "Meow" while on missions. Really plays up the idiot hero approach without being too invasive about it. (While often making those comments, the player doesn't stand around typing instead of fighting, for one.)
