Fire/Shield Advice

ok so....I don't know how to post my build here, so I'm just gonna give you the stats.

with all my toggles running, I have 1.84/s end. drain. (including against all odds and focused acuracy) with 3.77/s recovery...so I should be pretty good on endurance.

melee, ranged, and AoE defense are softcapped, with everything else at about 20% defense(without putting one with the shield on and such.)

most resistance are also around 20%, smashing and lethal are at 48% resistance.

recharge without hasten is at 62.5% and 132% with hasten on.

my.....advice needed is, well.

1.] I took hover and fly as my travel powers, because thematically I like those better than jumping and stuff. will that hinder me?

2.] what alpha should I be taking? I'll be lvl 50 soon when the weekend hits and....I don't really need endurance....but I'm not sure if I shoudl take damage or...recharge or something else.

If hover/fly is what you like, then it's the power you should pick. If you don't mind hovering around in melee, then go for it. Just keep in mind hover can suck down the endurance pretty fast as opposed to CJ which uses very little.

As to which alpha to shoot for, Recharge will help you out greatly. Anything that gets hasten, shield charge, FSC and the rest of your attacks up faster in your chain is pure win.

ahhh ok....

because initially I was leaning towards musculature, but with against all odds, I really don't need it...

and then I was thinking cardiac because it has the extra resistance buff in there.

so now it's between the recharge and the cardiac for me.

haha our builds are almost identical except I took incinerate instead of greater fire sword and I took kick instead of boxing.

hm....does the extra health/regen really make much of a difference? I'm thinking extra resistance is always good....but the cardiac's range wont effect me.

Extra health is almost equivalent to added resistance to all damage types (including untyped damage), only heals from other players don't take your total health into account (I think, might be wrong on this).

i would say yes just coz the more health u got if you get hit gives you the chance to suvive any big hits or if your def gets debuffed and the regen to ge tthat health back faster without having to pop greens alot

It depends on the change amounts and your difficulty settings.

Regeneration is famous for having and "invincibility threshold" where above a certain damage level you die in seconds and below it you can never be killed period. Adding extra regen to any build has a similar effect.

Against small groups of very tough enemies it can mean that they can never kill you period where they would eventually wear down a /sr or /shield with no regen bonuses. But against very large packs, typically the incoming damage is much more than the few hp/sec you have added.

So in that case it depends. I know for AV soloing without temps and inspirations having decent +regen bonuses and +hp is very key to surviving the unlucky streaks where they get through your defenses several times in a row. But for farming solo vs x8, more resistance and popping greens is vastly more effective.

Last, it also depends on your enemy types. resistance typically means resistance to S/L. Virtually never to psi or toxic or other exotics. Regen works for everything. SO who you fight also plays a role.

I really liked Cardiac for my SD toons. REALLY liked it. Tried all of the different Alphas on various SD toons, but the only one for shield that made an immediate and obvious change was the end-reducing Cardiac.

Not only was I getting not tapped out after long fights, found I was able to save enough slots from various powers by removing end reducers here and there, to respec into 4-5 slotted maneuvers (instead of 1 slotted recall friend). Also no longer needed the epic with physical perfection and conditioning, so got a ranged attack (which I use alternating with taunt, to get bigger groups on me) and a hold (for sappers, illusionists, and other pests). Not necessary, for sure, but useful little luxury powers, which then allowed me to use 2 more purple sets for the rech bonus.

My defense (positional) is 50ish-55 (scrapper being lower, tank higher), which is helpful with the 54's in Tin Mage and Apex, but I could have easily opted to keep the 45 def. cap, and gotten still more rech instead. Now, if your armor uses full sets for the bonuses, then that won't help you much. Mine use hami's (cyto's) with partial sets of LotG in the armor, more for the rech bonus. A few of the end reducing IO's I was able to remove were cyto's, which was nice, since they're expensive little buggers.

Having such good results with the SD toons, I tried Cardiac on a WP brute, believing it had to be the best on all melee toons, only to see no grand and dramatic changes, and saved all of 1 slot. DOH! (Think Spiritual will be the way to go with WP, to restore end and health? Dunno, but going to try that next!)

Spiritual didn't do a whole lot for SD imo, despite True Grit being 6 slotted with heal set. YMMV, but it didn't do much at all for me.
