Anniversary Event idea
I'd love that, but I'm not holding my breath because too many people would end up with oddball stuff like bug hunter and stuff then. Great idea for getting those last couple badges done though.
No. The whole point of badges is that you have you earn them somehow. This would cheapen it.
"You don't lose levels. You don't have equipment to wear out, repair, or lose, or that anyone can steal from you. About the only thing lighter than debt they could do is have an NPC walk by, point and laugh before you can go to the hospital or base." -Memphis_Bill

"Hey cool, you got the Master of Statesman Task Force! I heard that one was tough."
"Nope, all I had to do was log into COX 1260 times last month."
"Aw, I just started playing this month, guess I missed the free badges."
"No worries, they'll do it again next year."
I just thought of an idea that could be held once a year. I was thinking for the anniversary celebration but it could be for any other event and still work. When you log in any toon within the month of the anniversary you get a mystery gift temp power. When you open it it gives you one randomly selected badge that the toon doesn't already have. Unopened gifts would expire at a pre-determined date. It could even include badges that would otherwise be impossible to get like previous year's anniversary badges. The likelihood of receiving one of the really rare badges would be low because the badge that would be awarded would be completely at random based on the remaining badges that toon doesn't already possess. Obviously, for hardcore badgers that have 1100+ badges the odds get better.
Edit: Accolades would be excluded. You could get one of the badges that are part of the accolade but not the accolade itself because multiple badges are required to receive the accolade itself. |
There are no words for what this community, and the friends I have made here mean to me. Please know that I care for all of you, yes, even you. If you Twitter, I'm MrThan. If you're Unleashed, I'm dumps. I'll try and get registered on the Titan Forums as well. Peace, and thanks for the best nine years anyone could ever ask for.

Edit: You are, as you said, "earning them somehow" by logging in during the event. There are plenty of badges i.e. anniversary, holiday, etc... that you get just for logging in during an event.

Edit: On second thought, why on earth should MO badges be excluded? They don't give you any special powers or anything and the likelihood of getting one would be very small. The hardcore badgers that have over 1100 badges would most likely already have all their MOs, as well as, their accolades anyway. Imo, most people go for their accolades first and MOs not too long after that. I could be wrong but that makes sense to me.

Start doing this, might as well sell a "badge pack" on the store. $10 and it unlocks all the badges, current and future, on your account.
No, thanks.
Because it trivializes the difficulty of badges that require effort (ie: the MO badges) or time (epic healing, damage, etc. badges)

It's an interesting idea. One I, along with others, see the general issue with. Earning badges that one did not actually earn, especially if they come with the idea that getting it was difficulty (a Master Of badge, for example). Because of this, the badges that could be earned would have to be drastically limited.
Perhaps making it only Exploration badges, seasonal badges that come every year, or other badges that can be earned at any level.
Badges tells people what are you done with your toon. MO badge tells that you can actually do that MOTF. If they make badge earning too easy then we need some other easy system to keep records of things we done. So it's just same to end the whole badge system.
Very bad idea.
