I am in praetoria on victory server. There seems to not be very many people. I want to be in a server that has a lot of people, but not super crowded. Which one should I choose? I am on North american servers.

If you're looking to make you Victory experience better, I always recommend joining global channels. It's the best way to meet people and get involved in teaming and the like. The best channels to join on Victory are:

Victory Forum
Victory Badges (which may be full right now)
Victory Badges 2009 (the overflow channel for Victory Badges)

If you're just looking for a more populated server, you probably want to check out Freedom and Virtue.

The thing to remember is that the game is heavily instanced, so even on the most populated servers you don't see that many people out and about. As Camper said global channels are the best way to find people.

Global channels do make teaming easier on all servers. Also, saying hello in the forum of the server of your choice is also a good way to find new friends and teammates.

That said, when you look at the server list the last server you logged on to is always at the top. From there it shows servers in order of load, with the lowest load at the top and the highest load at the bottom. Load mostly corresponds to how busy each server is since more players adds more load. Mostly but not completely since some activities and events may put more of a load on a server than others.

Just an FYI regarding Freedom and Virtue. There's a Double XP Weekend event coming up (end of the month) and since Freedom and Virtue are the most populated servers, they tend to get crushed by their population during these events. If you are going to reroll your character to these 2 servers, I'd suggest waiting until next month. Give the Victory global channels a chance and maybe you'll decide to stay.

I've been watching the server order over the last couple of issues. The order of the servers on your login screen reveals something about their relative population -- other than the one you last logged onto, which is always at the top, the rest are in order from least-populated at the top to most-populated at the bottom.

Freedom and Virtue are (alllmost) always the most populated two, but your post sounds like you don't want that.

Based entirely on my subjective impressions of my unscientific sampling of prime-time server loads, there's a healthy variation in the server order...but, taking that into account, on most nights the next largest servers seem to be Infinity, Justice, Guardian, and Champion. The exact ranking changes regularly (which IMHO is a good sign).

Take that with a grain of salt, and bear in mind it does not measure whether people are in a given faction (everyone on Server X could be villainside, for example, and going heroside or into Praetoria on that server might seem unusually barren).

Victory actually has a thriving population. As suggested joining the global channels is a great help. There also seems to be less people starting new characters in Praetoria than in the regular zones like Atlas or Mercy on Victory.

Like everyone's been saying the Global channels are your friend in forming/getting teams. I don't play on Victory but I imagine there's probably a good community there on the global channels.

Praetoria is going to be sparsely inhabited on all servers with the possible exception of Freedom & Virtue; most players will be playing Heroside. Unless things are different on Victory than on Guardian & Pinnacle you'll find the population better than 60% hero with the majority of the remainder villain. Pretoria is a distant third; and everyone has to leave Pretoria for hero or villain side at level 20.

On server population unquestionably the top two are Freedom (which has a reputation, somewhat deserved, for attracting immature jerks) and Virtue (the unofficial role player's server, which can on occasion get a bit strange). Following those two are Guardian, Infinity, Champion and Protector in no particular order. These seem to be fairly evenly matched as their position will vary at any given time; their player base must be relatively equivalent.

I spend most of my time on Guardian; although I do have quite a few characters on Pinnacle and most of my villains on Infinity. There's not a huge difference in the players I encounter on any of those servers although I obviously know more players on Guardian than anywhere else. Using the global channels and your looking for team flag you should be able to find good people to play with. Whenever you run into a player you enjoy friend them so you can team with them again. That way you'll build a list of people you know. Also, joining a good SG is another resource. I don't suggest you join one of those prestige farm SG's who are always advertising for members in Atlas but ask the people you enjoy teaming with if you can join their SG. Any SG that will invite random people without teaming with them a time or two first is one you don't want to join.

Justice.

You forgot us.

Justice is actually about tied with Infinity for 3rd most populated server.

i have to agree with this, i think most poeple on victory (including myself)think that praetoria is a lowbie wasteland because it forces you to basically not do anything aside from praetoria for the first 20 levels, if you start on hero or villain you could always just find your way to PD and just go the praetoria from there, but your not stuck or forced to stay there with the farthest you can go is pocket d

victory is definitly not a inactive place, just starting in praetoria excludes you from 2/3 of the game until lvl 20

Note, it's not population but rather server load that determines the order. Slight difference but there is one.

If you want to try it out, The Repeat Offenders Network is a cross server SG coalition found on Justice, Freedom, and Virtue. Mostly helpful people in there. And usually there is someone in there.
