Willpower\Ice Melee synergy?
I played on a PUG the other night with a team doing the Heroside final alignment mission at +4x8. The lead tank had that combo and it looked like his health bar never took a hit most of the night. When I asked him about it he said that he it will never deal DPS but Iceslick and WP are an awesome combo. I have since been thinking this combo with pyre epic (Fireball) might be fun.
I have a WP/ice tank at 50. Ice Slick really is brutal. But, with Tough, Weave and nearly capped hit points, I really don't need it that often.
I've run every armor set through Ramiel's arc on teams and my WP tank had the easiest time of it.
Note:
1) My stone tank didn't use Granite.
2) It was not the same team every time, so other players were a variable factor.

I've been tinkering around with the idea of creating a willpower\ice tanker. The slows, sleep, and kd seem like, on paper, it'd go really well with willpower and it's regeneration. Does anyone have any experience with this in the mid-late game?
Early game has been a little rough, but mostly due to ice's low damage. Once i got rttc things seemed to get a little more survivable. |

Ice Melee is a team tanker's attack set. It's full of controls over damage. It will do well to make you survive alphas in the early game, and does better than most at helping WP tankers keep aggro.

So wanted to find out if the grind will be worth it. I've never made a 'tank' before, traditionally I'm a brute guy, but really wanted to give tankers a fair shake and ice melee appeals to me.

I have a friend who has rolled WP with nearly every set, across tanks, brutes, scrappers. His biggest regret is his WP/Ice Tank, granted thats just a personal standpoint. It's great for surviving, just don't expect to do any damage. Which isn't your primary role on teams, but makes soloing slower.
Yeah I knew going in that ice's damage would be rough going early on. Just been a little surprised at just how tough solo'ing has been in the early levels (pre-SO). Been on a few teams here and there, but it's been rough to find one sometimes.

I have a shield/ice on my deactivated second account which out performed my fire/ice before the last Burn change. I am afraid to know how sad ice melee is without Shield Charge or Burn.
I enjoy WP as a scrapper and brute.
YMMV---IMO
Ice Ember
Ice melee has been greatly improved... but it is still lacking. Greater Ice Sword is not that great. Frost is best when it has three cenrtioles and using the taunt IO's for acc/rech and rech. I rarely use ice patch anymore now that burn doesnt cause fear.

Thanks all for the input though. It's been very helpful.

Just to echo some of what others have said, Ice Melee is best when used on a team. For Soloing, or duoing I find it's damage frustratingly low, even with the above mentioned changes (Ice Stomp, a.k.a Frozen Aura). Coupled with WP, Ice Patch adds an additional amount of damage mitigation and keeps goons in range of the +Regen Aura, so a definate win.
I've started playing one of my Fire/Icers right before the recent Burn changes and I must say it's fun to be a Fire/Icer again.
And, just to my 2 Infs in, Greater Ice Sword needs to be Greater than Ice Sword.

I took a WP/Ice to 50 and, while the AoE damage is decent, getting to 38 felt like an eternity. I've considered re-rolling as SD/Ice quite often. (edit: because it bolsters single target damage a bit with AoO, and adds more AoE damage in shield charge)

As for GIS & ST damage, as others have noted, IM is still lacking in a few depts, but I think as a set, it's well balanced given its mitigation abilities. Still, I wouldn't mind a faster recharging GIS & FF (or just flat out more damage).
And yeah, WP would go well w/it, as would any primary that likes to be surrounded by lots of mobs. The lack of a damage aura doesn't hurt as much as would an ST-oriented set. RTTC + IP would make for a very survivable tank. Softcap S/L, or better yet S/L/E/N, and you're looking at Granite levels of survivability. Well, almost.
