They would care, if they knew about it, if its licensed for distribution in the US, the US licenser can and would go after NCSoft. I have seen at least 3 anime characters get genericed, I wouldn't risk it.

but in every MMO (subscription ones) AKA pay to play, i have always seen names of well known characters. ¿are those companies going after them? i guess no for now.I'm not promoting you making those characters but not all the companies will be checking every MMO publisher for that.

Al you need is for some irate and/or immature player who feels like they were griefed, or on a bad team, or lost in PVP to get upset and report the offending character to the owner of the copyright/trademark. Maybe the owner would let it pass, maybe they wouldn't; NCSoft is just not willing to take that chance.

Oh well let's see what the future holds but still there are a lot of good names available out there in some servers.
