The Southern recipe is typically Black-Eyed Peas, steamed or fried (i.e. skillet steamed) Cabbage, Smoked Hog Jowl, and Cornbread.

Many of the traditional Germanic dishes are some sort of Sauerkraut usually with a bacon or pork base, and a fruit, usually cranberries or apples.

Almost all of the ones I've ever heard of as "lucky" or "good fortune" making meal has Cabbage and Pork. Although there is always the family recipes of things like Chili, Jambalaya, Stew, or Steak (which I think someone just made that last one up for the sake of an excuse to eat a steak. =P)

I had to ring in the new year sober and busy working, but it's OK, I'll be ringing in January 2nd tonight with a beer or whiskey in my hand. =P

Happy New Year all! Hope you guys made it home safe and without having to call the ambulance or fire department......mostly because I will sympathize with them since that's what I had to deal with on MY New Years Eve.....responding to a ____ alcohol involved.....etc.

Ok, headed to the coffee pot or the bed, one of the two, amazing how similar the effects of a night of drinking has to the effects of responding to emergencies, has on the next day's activities. =P
