I'm looking for a build that gets a fire/fire tank close to the soft cap for most types as possible.

I'm thinking types rather then positions.

with kinetic shield included

Softcapping a fire/fire to everything will be tough, if not impossible. Fire gets no def naturally, and making 45% to even one type with sets is going to be expensive if it's possible. I see several choices of powers that give some def, but aren't really worth it in my opinion. Maneuvers, for example, is terrible on a tank. If you have a planned group to stack it with, just get somebody to make a FF Defender instead.

I would aim to softcap melee and/or smashing/lethal damage. It's expensive, but obliteration has some very tasty bonuses for def. One of the melee damage sets has some good def also, Crushing Blow maybe.

Here's what I'm running on my old fire/ss.
Its almost softcapped to s/l/nrg/neg.
It does not really need defense to fire.
While the numbers are not great for psi and cold many of those attacks have a dmg component that is covered and I got around 30% to melee and ranged more or less by accident.
Hope the comparison is useful.

Yep, he's still in heavy rotation. No real end problems.
He does have cardiac slotted. He has consume. He really never bothers to run tough, cj, sprint, or NR in mission.
On the off chance I need the extra survival I am almost certainly teamed and can either lean on buffs or slack on attacks a bit. I did craft a recovery serum just in case but I've never needed it yet.

Severe, have you thought about slotting FE with Adjusted Targeting tohit/recharge, recharge and a common recharge? It ED caps the recharge and gives you another 2% damage bonus. That's the slotting I use for Build Up on my scrappers and blasters. It's not much but it's also cheap.

That build looks effective, but massively expensive. What is it, about 5-6 billion in today's market? Did you go for the Cardiac alpha for the endurance? My biggest complaint with the Oblit set, aside from it's cost, is the lack of endred in it.

Ah, that would make a difference there. I haven't done anything with my old mid-30's Fire/Fire tanker in years so I wasn't aware of that.

yeah think of f.e. along the same lines as hasten...nothing can be done to it but recharges for max potential and yes i have both nerve for the acc and defense and cardiac for the end and dam resistance.

my end for this build is 3.18%/sec ( 3.50 end/sec) so its really not too bad plus i have conserve power and consume. so if i use nerve and not cardiac im still quite fine suprislying i havent used cp yet on him.


as to how exspensive he is. the 3 i.os alone are 6 billion by themselves if your lucky to get them off the market.from random people on the foprums itll be around 9 bills for them alone.plus the defense ones which are exspensive as well...more toward 10 bill

but the good news is this really isnt far out anymore thanks to hero merits and incarnates. you can grab any of those using ae tickets,hero merits and reward merits,i recently just made over 4 billion alone using just 2 hero merits each time. every 20 hours run over. grab a lotg + recharge then make it and sell it for the current asking of 200 mill. market advice is to find the cheapest most valuable thing and sell it for major cash. in this case its the lotg + recharge.

dont waste 35 hero merits for 2 billion when you can make 4 billion off of 20 hero merits!double your profits and have any build you want!.within one month of doing this you will easily be over 5 billion alone in influence.( plus with whatever you get in random drops and sell makes it even more!)

i hit the influence cap 3 times just doing this alone!..currently back at 1.9 bill on my fire tank with a 300 mill in an email i didnt have room for!

and with all the tf's now. this makes it even easier to grab teams for tfs and still sneak in those tips to get even more hero merits!that means high end builds are way more easier and done within 2 months play time. but only if your willing to curve the alt-itis!

This is mine. He might seem end heavy with 1.64/s but with Miracle, Numina, PS +end, Physical Perfection and Accolades his bar never moves. I am actually considering taking the 2 slots out of consume and putting them somwhere else, I just never use it now with the stuff listed above and a Cardiac Radial Boost.

I also went soft capped s/l def and 40% melee to make up the difference. I went more into recharge and regen than some others to help fill the holes. Nothing like a 13 second Healing Flames . I tried for 22% to 23% def in all other areas because most of the teams I am on have either a cold shielder, bubbler or Emp for Fort and with their 23% shield/fort it soft caps me across the board. At the very least most teams now seem to have 5 or 6 stacked maneuvers, which does almost the same thing.

( Whole things cost me about 3.6 billion so much more doable for people who have money but not huge amounts )

question brakner...why not use perfect zingers instead of mocking breavements?


is it for the 2% recharge more?

i would think being just over the soft cap is better then being just under the cap plus with nerve alpha youll almost be soft capped in melee defense as well.

Well, the MB set also gives you bonus end. Another 1.8 points of end can be a noticeable bonus and you aren't loosing very much from the S/L def. I see valid arguments both ways on those two sets; I've slotted CMA with the Zinger and my Shield/Fire has the Mocking Beratement.

There's also the point that the MB set is dirt cheap and the Zinger is considerably more, especially when you consider the salvage prices. Admittedly that isn't a consideration in this situation.

As I said, for me its not just soft cap in 1 or 2 def types. Its a combination of def, resist, regen, recharge, HP's and max end, its a balancing act so I am not a one trick pony.

I am at 44.9 s/l def with MB's and as Call Me Awesome said the extra 2.5% rech, 1.8 max end and 3.125% f/c def , 1.563 AoE def over Zingers was worth the loss of .625 s/l and .328 melee. My overall goal was for capped s/l plus 22% to 23% def in everything else to push me to soft cap in all other areas with team support.

I use to be soft capped in just s/l and melee but only 10% to 14% in all other areas. I found things like Tin Mage much more difficult with all that ranged Energy damage. As soon as I reworked the build to be 22% to 23% in all other areas a single defender buff or single Cor / Troller buff and some Maneuvers soft capped me across the board. I actually did several Tin Mage and Apex after that without even a scratch, it was like night and day.

( With MB plus accolades I am sitting at 111.8 end, add PS +End which fire a lot I am at 123 end. ( this with Numina, Miracle, physical Perfection and Cardiac is why my bar never moves even with SS on and attacking )

I guess it just comes down to personal taste. All the other builds in this thread are amazing, I just wanted to add some variety

This is a possible alternate build im considering for my 50 Fire/SS tank Deep Fryer. Pretty expensive from what i've seen in the market but it covers the bases fairly well. take a while to get the hamis too but might be worth it in the end. A purple or two will keeep you up to most things i believe. Any thoughts?

I've been meaning to respec my Fire/Fire to go for more defense since I tried +HP/+regen on my last build. I'll probably won't take Maneuvers, and Acrobatics, but replace them with Conserve Energy, and Physical Perfection to help with Endurance.
