No response from server..try another or try playing this one later. How about no payment or try collecting my money from someone else!

After 75 months of game playing, I get the same message for every server:
No response from server..try another or try playing this one later.

Where's the love?

You could try this:

1) reboot you computer
then
2) run CoH as admin
then
3) report back plz

When I first logged on around 3:30pm Pacific, there was a patch, but no patch notes. It had been a few days since I logged in, so I didn't think anything of it.

About 15 minutes ago, I logged out of the game and restarted it. There was another patch to download and apply. I was surprised, especially since again there are no patch notes and I couldn't see anything to indicate there was a problem.

When I tried to log back in just now, it said "No response from this server. Please try another server or try again later." I tried every server and got the same response. I exited the game again and had it verify files. No errors, but when I logged back in again, I had the same problem. "No response from this server." On every server.

What's going on here?

I have a theory. But it's not important.

Try this

1) reboot you computer
then
2) run CoH as admin
then
3) report back plz

There're threads in the technical issue forum with other solutions.

I had a similar experience. The above solved the problem for me.

I'm getting the same thing. At first, i was like, excited about that patches. (Don't ask me why), but now, it's annoying. I think the game is downloading the same patch over and over again. Something's wrong here.

Sure, if I restart and try again, it'll redownload the patch and log in successfully, but I shouldn't have to do this every time I want to play.

Oh noes!

Something stopped me from logging in!

Who cares what caused it! The only answer is......RAGEQUIT!!!!!

I had the same problem, it ran 2 patches, and fixed some files, once it verified the files I got in just fine.

Seriously, dude. The client/server communication had something screwy going on with it, and it was easily fixed.

Threatening to ragequit over this is just....well....childish.

I'm quite sure you're correct. This has happened to me four times now. I don't think this game has been patched four times over the last 24 hours. Strange that it seems to want to continue downloading the same patch. I've verified it every time yet it continues to do so after every restart. Admin log in and all.

i actually managed to log in without patching today. I don't know what I did different. I was using Windows 7 and let my computer shut down normally instead of clicking Force Shut Down. I'm still not sure if that was causing the problem.

This happened to me last night. Played all morning with no issues, then came back in the evening and had this happen.

There's several threads over in the Technical Issues forums with probable cause and viable solutions.

What appears to have happened is that at least one of the update servers has the wrong version of the game on it. If you get unlucky and hit that server when loading up the game, it "patches" you back to the incorrect version and everything stops working.

If you look in the version.ini file you'll see a version ending in xxxxx.x.xx.x.x.24 if you've got the wrong version and xxxx.xx.x.x.x.xx.27 if you've got the right version.

To fix: delete the checksum file, delete the prv file, delete the version.ini file and then force a re-update to occur.

If you want to, you can force the updater to hit a specific server (which we know has the correct version on it) with this:

"C:\Program Files (x86)\City of Heroes\CohUpdater.exe" -ps 64.25.34.144

---

I'd expect that things will be "properly" fixed very soon, as it's now Monday and the folks should be getting into the office and fixing things quickly.

I'd like to point out that deleting files and re-patching only works if you connect to one of the patch servers with the correct patch, and is only effective so long as your updater doesn't happen to again connect to the screwed up patch server at some point. If/when that happens, it'll just update your game to the wrong version again, and you're back at square one.

Adding the -ps string to your CoHUpdater shortcut is the ONLY way to fix this problem for sure.

I am having this issue too. I waited on a patch for about 15 minutes, got in, received 'no response from server' message. I would have restarted next, but I'm a rebel who doesn't follow instructions properly, so I simply 'ran as admin.' Now, it's patching again, with an estimated 32 minutes remaining. I figured I would gripe while I waited. Gripe, gripe, gripe.
