Another Fire/Kin Critique

Hello,

I'm looking for a bit of advice on my fire/kin build.. I've spent the majority of my time on this game playing melee characters. My knowledge of ranged/holds/immob sets is somewhat lacking because of this. My goal for the build was to get s/l capped, and have some decent aoe damage to go along with that. I'd also like to note I'm not dead set on these powers, or the slotting of inertial reduction / speed boost, things like that. I'm just looking for some general advice on how to make this better.

I know slotting two sets of kinetic combat (or slotting boxing at all) probably isn't the best way to cap on a controller, but I'm stuck with my knowledge of melee sets. I'm also not sold on how to slot char / fire cages / hot feet, so some advice on those would be very helpful as well.

Thanks in advance!

You're probably going to hear "You need more EndRed in Hot Feet" a lot. It might as well start here. Also, it's not necessarily that good a place for procs, since they only activate every ten seconds in toggles. (Not to mention that they don't benefit from Fulcrum Shift.) If you're really set on having Obliteration, I'd at least replace the Scirocco's proc with a common EndRed to reduce your suffering on that score a bit.

And speaking of which, you've got that third slot in Speed Boost, which doesn't seem to help you except in recovery boost... but your only enhancement in Stamina is the Performance Shifter proc? Eew. If Mids is right, over time the proc isn't worth as much as a single common EndMod IO, and that little recovery bonus isn't even close. I'd at least drop the one slot from SB and put here. The proc might be worth it if you've already got 2 common EndMods here.

It doesn't look like you plan to use Tactics; you certainly can't afford to run it as is. Switching it for something from Concealment for a LotG recharge mule might be more helpful.

If you're set on Razzle Dazzle in Flashfire, I'd take the A/S/R over the proc. Gives a bit more stun duration and accuracy, and what do you need such an unreliable immobilize for when you've got a reliable one in Fire Cages?

-Morgan, could probably think of more, but it's late and I need sleep. Also, what do you plan to use this character for?

if your goal is defense, then an easy way to get some more is to take 2 slots from inertial reduction and put them into weave. with 5 slots weave can take some nice sets.

i also recommend either more slots in stamina, or more recharge to get transference up more often. i have a fire/kin and its amazing how fast it can eat up endurance, especially when you're spamming aoe immobs and stuns.

also, it's fire cages, not hot feet, that benefits more from procs. (from what i've read) i like razzle dazzle, but the proc in that is pretty pointless since you'll have fire cages on everything anyway. but if you're going against an elite boss or something it could be useful to stack it i guess.

Rather than start a new thread I'll hijack this one. Maybe the OP can use the advice/ideas my build may generate.

I've never made a fire/kin build before, though I have played one at high levels. I never bothered IO'ing it out because I shifted my interests to other things. Well I'm back now and I wanted to take my turn with the whole F/K craze. My goals with this build are:

Capped S/L
Perma-Hasten
High E/NE/Ranged
DAMAGE!!
Won't break the bank

Now it may seem that this build is ultra expensive, but I actually have most of this stuff, and the stuff I don't I can get doing tips for A-merits.

I've managed perma-hasten with a single application of Siphon Speed.

Hot Feet is a little bit low on the end slotting but I plan on having both the Cardiac and Radial Alphas. I can switch between them based on whatever the situation demands.

I don't know if anyone remembers my old Delta Thermal build, but I've recently come back to CoH (sort of) and I'm leveling a new Fire/Kin - this is the build I'm using. It may be a bit expensive, but most of it is in +rech LotGs or Numina/Miracle uniques; those can probably be dropped. Get whatever 4 basilisks are cheapest, you're almost never actually going to use those. Also, you can substitute in cheaper defense/endred enhancements in the defense powers to avoid LotGs, and pure Healing IOs into Health/Earth's Embrace until you can afford the other stuff (or move those slots elsewhere). Getting the Fitness powers for free have really made Fire/Kin/Earth a no-brainer build now, and I can only imagine Alpha slots make it better than ever.

This build is 7s off of permahasten without any Siphon Speed, and .3s off perma with one stack. I haven't actually played it yet; it may need more Endred in Hot Feet, but I'm betting that with Siphon Speed and the Force Feedback proc, Transference will keep you topped off. As always on these builds, you fight S/L enemies in huge groups (preferably without bosses) and Fire Cages/Hotfeet does the majority of your damage with Fissure there mostly for the proc. Since Fire Cages and Hot Feet are slotted for damage, Fulcrum Shift can lose a couple stacks, and with Earth's Embrace/Health/+regen procs, you should be quite survivable.

If you do end up dropping stuff for more EndRed, remember that shifting slots out of Health/Earth's Embrace into Boxing and slotting Kinetic Combat grabs a whole lot of S/L def.

You're about 3.7% over softcap S/L, with about 25% less recharge...using purples, HOs, and PvPs...than the build I just posted. Mind posting some commentary about what your build is about?

Any reason you went with Super Jump over Inertial Reduction? Looks like you slotted Hotfeet for damage, but not Fire Cages - and then you only put one slot into recharge for Fulcrum Shift, which means you might not be able to maintain damage cap for your Fire Cages (which are about half your damage in a proper Fire/Kin AoE damage build).

...hey, wait a minute. Weren't you the guy, back when I was farming with Delta Thermal, who said that you didn't think the build I posted could farm bosses of any level? Then, when you came to Virtue and watched me do it, you said that it didn't count unless they were 54 bosses that didn't do S/L damage?

Mine works just fine for me. If yours works fine, then so be it. I really dont give a ****.

And sorry, I dont remember you. lol Ring of Fire, Bonfire, and putting 2 procs in a click power (Earths Embrace).

Like I said....I wasnt looking for any imput into my build. I was mearly showing it as another option. I'm sure people flock to you in regards to your OP slotting of boxing.

I don't run combat jumping unless I really need to.....*******. So therefore I'm not over the s/l cap by 3.whatever you said.

And you dont need perma-hasten (105%) from slotting when your FF proc gets you there with less. Looks like your build is just as bad as the first time I saw it.

Keep trying young grasshoppa.

Oh hell, you're right. I haven't played since they added the new powers to the APPs, so for some reason I thought Embrace was an always-on. To address your critique of my slotting of boxing, the chance for knockback is there mostly for fun. It's entirely ignorable for someone who doesn't care about the fun of punching someone in the face and sending them flying, as a troller. I looked at what I could do with one slot, and it sounded hilarious.

We're trying to help people, here, and blindly posting builds without letting people know how/why they work doesn't help them. You don't remember me, but my build is as bad as the last time you saw it? Pick one, please.

Your build is -wildly-, exorbitantly expensive without being effective. It's irresponsible to tell someone new to trollers to spend over a billion influence on a build that doesn't work any better than one with cheaper IOs. Yeah, I'm sure it works for you - it's only marginally worse than the build I posted - but straight SOs "work".

I've posted this many times over...but I'll say it once more.

ANYTHING works as long as you have 45% s/l defense. The rest is just cosmetic. If you rather have 25% more rech and 60% less ACC...then so be it. I chose to have less rech and more ACC in my build.

If people want to spend less on a fire/kin, there are plenty of cheap builds that do work. I'll admit that. But mine works just as good. And in the end, its fake money were spending. And I have billions and billions to play with.

Have a great day!

You thought EE was always on....and youre questioning my build....

Seriously dude....you can shut up now.

I think I'm going to exercise the "wrestling with pigs" method of conversation, now. Anyone with two brain cells to rub together can see the flaws in your logic, I don't need to point 'em out. Thanks for the excellent illustration of how not to help people learn the coolest arch in the game.

For those reading for actual build information: my previous mistake on Earth's Embrace is easy to correct in the build. The uniques placed in that power aren't "procs", they are effects that are always on, as long as the power lasts. By replacing the Numina's Heal with a Numina's Heal/Rech, EE becomes perma, thus giving the same functionality with a very slight loss in HP.

I have no idea why either of you has Fissure slotted for stun. Doesn't that part not actually fire very often? It didn't seem to happen much when I experimented with it on an alt build.

For the set bonuses. 6.25% recharge and 2.5% recovery are nothing to sneeze at. Remember that Fulcrum Shift will be damage capping you most of the time - the only reason I slotted Hot Feet and Fire Cages for damage were that you can't plan on starting out every fight with a full Fulcrum Shift, and those do damage from the very opening of the fight. Fissure is something you hit once the fight is in full swing, after the first Fulcrum Shift.

Same here...and to be honest, I havent farmed with my fire/kin in awhile. I prefer to use my spines/wp these days. But Eh...I still have the -res and the purple proc in the build. Having the power fully proc'd out was just too much strain on the end. Its do-able, but just prepare to use (and wait for) transference more often.

In my experience, when Transference is recharging faster, you don't mind hitting it more often. Your two main damage powers are Hot Feet and Fire Cages - you can get away with Fire Cages -> Fulcrum Shift -> Fissures -> Fire Cages -> Transference, rinse, repeat, subbing in your heal when necessary.
