Game lagging in higher level areas?

Hi,

I just recently upgraded my trial account to a full version so I might be a bit shaky and n00bish on my explanatory skills, but try to bear with me.

My character is at level 16- Up until about this point, my game has run very nicely, but now that I'm able to access higher level areas via the Ferry (necessary in order to level up further and such) my game likes to lag a lot and be generally irritating once I enter any new areas.

I'm just curious as to why it would only lag in new areas and run fine in lower level spots. I have my graphics settings at the minimum as is, and I'm at a loss. If anyone has any suggestions as to what else I might do to eliminate this problem and/or an explanation as to why it's happening in the first place I would appreciate it.

Thanks a lot for your time, I look forward to any and all input.

You'll probably get more help if you post this kind of question in the technical issues and bugs section, which is where the tech-savvy people hang out:
http://boards.cityofheroes.com/forumdisplay.php?f=578

It's helpful for them if you post your computer specs along with your question, to give people an idea of which performance issues might be caused by hardware, drivers etc. There's a stickied guide in that section for what info is useful to include:
http://boards.cityofheroes.com/showthread.php?t=231628

You might want to have a look at some of the other stickied posts there, too, to see if any of them address your problem.

Good luck with getting it fixed, and welcome to the game and forums :-)

Keep in mind some of it might not be your computer, but server load. With the Incarnate stuff being the current new shiny thing, there are more people running their 50s and high level toons than usual to up their incarnate powers, who are more likely to be in those high-level zones. It could just be there's more for the server to communicate which is producing the lag.

You wouldn't be playing a villain in Grandville on Freedom or Virtue would you?

This is like having Ra's Al Ghul show up at your birthday party.

Thanks for your responses everyone. Sorry about posting in the wrong area, I guess I should have looked around more carefully before posting. I will repost in the correct area along with my computer specs now.

In response to the last question, I'm playing a villain on the Protector server.

The fact that this forum doesn't have a perma-link to the Tech forum has been a pet peeve of mine for a while Don't worry, it happens. We just like to point you in the right way because there are a number of people who hang there who don't hang here. Mostly Father Xmas and je_saist, because the higher ups haven't learned the lesson yet of "measure twice, hang once"... or something like that.

Everyone seems very supportive here. I really appreciate it, I've been a victim of forum snobbery in the past so this is a nice relief.

Sorry if this is a waste of a post, but I don't understand. Maybe my humor capacity will increase with the rest of my general game competence?

Read my animated avator - it's a sometimes-reviled bit from Doctor Who, if you don't know.

One of the coolest episodes of the series, and all because the actor playing the titular character had no time to do an episode for that week
