Worst Sets to Optimize via IOs?
What powerset combination are you trying for Tex ?
I have played a Sonic/Energy Defender and I was actually intrigued by the slotting options, so perhaps I can take a look from my perspective and see what comes up.

Kinetics is my answer too.
As far as Sonic Resonance, I have a /SR Corruptor that has 70% S/L resistance and is permanently HP capped, along with a decent amount of regen. It may not be on par with a softcapped build, but I consider it to be quite decent.
I've got a Sonic/ Def with soft capped Ranged Def and hard capped S/L resists. Being light in number of "must have" powers and also light in the number of slots needed for those powers allowed me to freely pick the right pool and epic powers and slot them as needed.
Global = Hedgefund (or some derivation thereof)
Any chance you could put up a build? I'm slowly working on a Sonic/Sonic defender, but find that I have trouble keeping her alive for long.
My first 50 was a Sonic/Sonic Def.
I find the SR to be very versitile, being very usefull on teams and solo without changing builds.

kinetics isn't great, but it shouldn't even be considered in the same catagory in terms of IO slotting.
kinetics has:
transfusion: heal/acc heal/end mod
siphon speed: slow
speed boost: end mod/run/universal travel
repel: kb
increase density: damage resist
transference: end mod
inertial reduction: jump/universal travel
granted, IR and repel are rarely taken, but even without those, its a moot point. just because siphon power and fulcrum shift can't accept IOs don't mean its the worst set to optimize, especially in comparison to sonic resonance.

Sonic and Kinetics are both pretty bad.
Sonic Resonance gives you the option of chasing either Fire/Cold/AoE defence via Aegis or End recovery and Psi Resistance via Impervium Armour. Both help a bit, but aren't really what you want. I've got 36% AoE Defence on one Defender, planning on over 50% Psi res on the other (counting Mind over Body), but neither of them are going to change my game.
With Kinetics, my main problem was figuring out what I needed. I guess Accuracy and Defence were the big two goals, since the set itself ssess to your Recharge and endurance needs very nicely.
I'd also give a shout out to Fire Blast as not very IO friendly. Lots of Targetted AoEs and only Positron's as a decent set-bonus set to slot in there, which means very poor actual recharge. And nowhere for a nice Stun or Hold set.
I know about the hazards of declaring a set the "worst" of anything, but I'm curious about community opinions about which power sets seem most difficult to IO. I'm asking because there are a few sets that I can never seem to make much progress with. For me, the main one I've always struggled against is Sonic Resonance. I'm posting partially to vent, and partially because I hope someone can show me a build that proves me wrong.
In Sonic Resonance, 4 of 9 powers do not accept IOs of any kind. One power that does (Sonic Repulsion) is so terrible that no one takes it, and the IOs it accepts have little or no effect on the needs of the actual power. Of the remaining 4 powers, 3 are Resistance based shields. Having 1-2 resistance based shield is usually beneficial, but the super important IOs that go there tend to be unique. The final power, Liquefy, fits into no particular category of anything and pretty much forces frankenslotting. Liquefy has the additional problem of having an absurd Recharge time in a set that otherwise benefits not at all from recharge. In fact none of the powers in Sonic Resonance even present even an opportunity to slot for global recharge at all unless you drop into the 10-30 IO range or badly slot the main power in the set that needs recharge in the first place.
I've tried and tried to make a good Sonic Resonance build and been shot down repeatedly. The set is so endurance hungry, so lacking in variety, and so bereft of opportunity to slot enhancements that are practical to its overall needs that I have yet to come up with a single build I'd consider even decent. Is there a worse set out there, or can someone provide some insight into a Sonic Res build that actually competes?
