Have you met any of your COH/COV/GR buddies offline?
When I moved across the country, I ended up living within three miles of somebody (@Kelp Plankton) I'd been friends with in-game for years, so we hang out on a pretty regular basis now. I've also met probably five or so other people at non-CoH conventions.
Having Vengeance and Fallout slotted for recharge means never having to say you're sorry.
I haven't met any of me in-game friends outside of it. But I did get one of them to sew and mail me the WORLD'S MOST AWESOME HAT EVER!
And honestly, isn't that almost as good?
I got my best friend and son hooked on COH. But as for others... I have run into one guy who does deliveries to my job that used to play. We talked about COH for a while but he had left the game already for WoW... :-/
Recently, as in last week, I noticed a client checking out the WoW forums and told him I was a COH person myself and low and behold he had an account at one time. I started telling him about all the changes since he'd been gone (a couple years) and he was very tempted to start up his account again. I need to send him a friend renewal thing...
So in total I've met two people from COH. Though, I have one SG friend that I text and he sent post cards and a couple gifts from his summer cruise to the Mediteranean which was very cool. I have two others that I have on my FaceBook friends list from one of my SGs.
I'd say this is a pretty friendly game and not a bad place to meet people as you already know you have one interest in common!

I've run or co-run the M&G's at Origins and GenCon for the past two years (and I'll probably be doing it again this coming year). Also been to one of the Chicago M&G's put on by Shecky (had to bow out of the one this year due to sh...shenanigans...at work). Met a bunch of people who play the game. And have met a couple of people on my own personal friends/gfriends list.
LOADS of fun to gab with people about all the little nice (and sometimes not-so-nice things in the game).
My SG Paragons Super Friends was founded in 2005 and we quickly grew into on of the top SGs on the Champion Server maybe not in size max membership peak was around 50 however we have never been out of the top 75 and a few years after it was formed several (5) of us got together at GenCon 2007, 2008 (4), 2009 (6) and 2010 (2) we are planning on several of us getting together in 2011 (4-6). I have had several members to my house for a weekend, I've been to a members house and since three of the players are his friends they were there.
This does not count my friends who introduced me to the game (5). Nor does it take into account people who we met at the 2007 meet and greet and other players at the succeeding conventions.

Step Up or Step Aside
You pose an interesting question. When I started my SG on Triumph about 6 years ago, there were about 10 of us. Three were role players in another SG on another server that blessed us with their presence.
After a couple of months, one of the girls asked me where I lived and why didn't our SG have a real life meeting. I was stunned, really. It never occurred to me to meet anyone in real life. I joked and asked her if she was some kind of nut, who in the world would want to meet someone they were teaming with - it's just a pretend game.
Since then, I've learned that there are people who have not only met since playing this game, there are people who have married.
I ran into a childhood friend of mine in this game. That was kind of weird, but cool. (Especially when you know your friend is playing a chick toon, and your friend is a guy. I know many guys are playing chick toons, but when I know the guy behind it, it just makes it odd for me. )
Myself, I can't see going to a meet and greet. I play to unwind, not to socialize. So ignorant I was, when I bought this game, I had no idea what the letters MMO stood for. It never occurred to me that anyone would ever want to play a game that thousands of others were playing. Heh, the first time I got a tell, I wasnt' even aware it was from a person, I thought it was some random NPC interacting with me!
I met one guy who was one of the original beta testers, he left the game before they even had badges, I never teamed with him, though.
I dated a woman who was a beta tester, had even asked me if I would be interested in Beta testing the game, but I told her I didn't have the time. (If I knew then what I know now!)
That's the extent of my social interactions with any player.

@Ukase
I did meet up with a group of friends from another MMO - at the wedding of 2 of them to be precise. Not really made enough "close" friends in CoX to warrant an RL meet though. Oh and being from UK rules out M&Gs
