Thanks to LM's explanation to me in a PM, I will definitely be taking CC when stamina becomes inherent. I had it, but didn't slot it correctly and respec'd out of it because I wasn't finding it worked well.

How about CC on a Rad/ice defender? I am leveling one now, I thought CC would be great backup with Ice's holds for that extra bit of mitigation when mobs run into melée with me. Love CC on my Fire/Rad though.

A major part of the question of whether to take Choking Cloud is the heavy End cost. With the new Incarnate slots around the corner it's a new game, at least for level 50s. You can slot your Alpha slot with 33% End reduction (and eventually 45%), which makes it much easier to afford to take the power.

I played my main Fire/Rad for about 2 years with CC then dropped it.
I've since played the last 4 years or so without it.
Let's just say I don't really miss it.

Obviously CC can be very useful if you choose to play/maneuver in a manner that favors its strengths. Ultimately I found the need to have to camp next to MOBs in order to "random-mez" them was far too slow and inefficient, especially if you play on fast moving teams to any degree. What's the point in being able to keep things mezzed for multiple ticks of CC when most critters you face are dead within a couple of ticks? YMMV of course.

Now even though I do have years of experience using the power I will readily admit that I stopped using CC back in a time when the only option you had to "super-slot" it was by using HOs. Basically I gave up on it long before IOs even hit the scene. I'm willing to accept the idea that with proper IO slotting (and the upcoming I19 changes) that CC can be made into a very good power. Regardless of how cool CC can now be made I still doubt I'll ever use it again. My playstyle simply tends to be far more mobile and dynamic than CC will allow for. *shrugs*

Try this:

1) Static field a bunch of mob which has KB resist
2) Turn on Choking Cloud
3) Set Jolting Chain on auto-fire
4) Reset your Static field whenever it runs out.

Watching bunch of +2 mobs falling and standing up like Domino and not being able to do anything is comical.
