Inconsistant Boss XP.

Now, I'm not a big numbers guy, and I do know that certain enemies have different XP modifiers, but this one incident I had today seemed a little off.

I was playing on my level 44 Tanker, going through Janet Kellum's arc (One of the best blueside arcs might I add) and beating up Crey. I'm set to x3 players, so I usually get a Paragon Protector every other spawn. However, something really doesn't seem right about the XP from paragon protectors.

The particular one I'm talking about is the Energy blasting one with the old Moment of Glory power. The boss is of equal level to me, conning orange. After defeating her, I gain 6,541 XP. I thought this was a bit odd, as I usually get more XP for bosses than that. I keep going, looking for a different boss, and the next boss is also a Paragon Protector, although this one is the Spines scrapper with Elude. I defeat him and I get 12,294 XP, nearly twice as much for the energy protector.

So, either something is wrong with the Spines or the Energy protector I figure to myself. So I decided to head off to PI and look for even-level bosses to compare XP gain. I find a Nemesis Warhulk and a Malta Gunslinger boss, and they both award me the same amount of XP, 8,781.

So I have to wonder now, is there something wrong with the Energy protectors XP? And also, why did the Spines protector give me almost double the XP as the energy? Since the two Nemesis and Malta bosses both gave me the same 8,781 XP, I figure that's around the average XP for bosses I should be getting. Something doesn't seem right with the Protectors XP... any idea on what's up?

When they use MoG they damage self which counts against your xp.

I had a feeling that it was related to that, but that still doesn't explain why I got twice as much for the Spines protector.

I have to ask the obvious.. did you have debt at all? That could have cut your gain in half for one of them.

As for the MoG.. it would explain it if one of them used the power and the other didn't have the chance.

Is this repeatable? Can you go back and defeat the same enemies again with the same results?

No, I had no debt. There wasn't any Patrol XP either.

I'll try repeating it again tomorrow, and see what happens.

what the other posters said about the MoG on the paragon protectors is true, the inflicting self dmg cuts the xp down

as for the spines protector giving more than usual, that seems kind of odd though, not sure why it would be doing that

do you know what lvl the spines protector was and what lvl nemesis and malta bosses were?

They were all the same level as I was, level 44.

hmm, well calculating out, if the nemesis/malta bosses were giving around 8700 xp, and the PP gave almost 13k, thats nearly 50% bonus xp (its slightly less but very close to +50%)

to be exact

8,781 x 1.4 = 12293.4

normal x 140% (40% bonus xp) = new xp, and the xp you were getting from the PP was 12,294 which means for some reason it was getting approx 40% extra xp from somewhere

8781 x 1.4(the exp mod for protectors) = 12293.4

Self damage for the lower one

Warhulks and Gunslingers are 1.0 scale so they were the same

If you did a Fake Nemesis you'd find they're much more (1.7 mod)

Which is kinda odd because the Warhulks and Gunslingers are more of a pain than the fake Nemmies...

Depends on how much you hate PFF and an enemy with defensive powers, compared to the other two's lack of non-inherent defensive abilities.

Plus, it's all a Nemisis Plot.

ive never noticed fake nems to be that much more xp, but i think they have the bonus due to their PFF (although i have to agree with tyger that warhulks are more annoying due to all their AoE, kb, and post death explode)

Not as much as I hate the gunslinger's ability to auto-hit. And the Warhulk's generally more severe damage output.

Ehh, I usually take down a Warhulk and Gunslinger in 4 hits, so I hardly notice them. Fake Nems on the other hand take about 5-6, because I always manage to fail the chain as it hits PFF. The DoT takes 'em down a little though.

my dark melee brute if he times his attack chain right, will be able to kill the fake nem either before they hit PFF or shortly after with DoT from gloom

I can't because of the Arcanatime and lag on my Widow. It's very annoying.

I need to change my attack chain and reslot somewhat anyways, since I can't seem to take down the Pylons in the scrapper challenge, only tank them.
