Well, it's been rumored for awhile Lucas wrote episodes 7-9... Oh god... <dies alittle inside> can we PLEASE leave star wars alone? LEAVE STAR WARS ALONE!

Lucas has always had a story idea for that time period, and it's a guaranteed money maker, so it's going to happen no matter how much fans moan or Lucas drags his feet. This is fated. Granted the topic of whether or not a sequel trilogy will happen has been kicking around since 1977, so I think we can all agree that George can't make up his mind.
And yeah, I do think George Lucas would do it better. I'd rather watch the prequels any day than read about Luke killing clones of Palpatine and Vader and fanservice characters like "Anakin Solo". The whole EU post ROTJ seems like a badly written fanfic, save for a few saving graces here and there.
