The art of DSNG
Thanks Lady Arete... about to read through your character's bio
While I don't care for the character Statesman, that's some pretty nice art. Can't wait to see the colored version of it.
Also: Welcome to game, and (one of) the best part(s) of the forums!!

Not too shabby.
Welcome aboard DSNG.
P.S. Go for a hero... villains smell funny. >o.0<
Very nice art, nice clean lines I imagine colorists love
As for villian vs hero - why choose? Sone people couldntbsurvive without 50 characters. Or if you're more the 1 character type, there is always the option of having more than one version... But if you must choose, I'd go hero to start. More people around at all levels to team with or just ask questions of... Plus, at low levels, Red Side (villian side) is just a grungy, non appealing area to me that put me off for the longest time... Higher levels I think it's a much nicer looking area but since your just starting... *shrug*
but if area looks matter that much, I hear Praetoria is awesome...
Anyway, jump in and see what holds you.. No lifetime commitment needed
btw - fan art before even playing? What's up with that???
Lady Arete, I noted a lot of depth to your backstory for Carolyn. The disapproval of her father, the jealousy of her mother, her relationship with Andrew, the attempted blackmail by Benjamin, and the drama that ensued when she was introduced to the Circle of Thorns during her vacation in America.
Her searing Phoenix & spell powers are cool. Her time in prison almost looks like a rite of passage that helped to mature her as an experienced character, who has had highs and lows.
Well done on that bio!
Thanks Kheldarn! Colored version will be posted soon.
Thanks ChristopherRobin.
Honestly man, I'm leaning towards creating a villain. I know they smell funny, can't seem to settle for regular day jobs, and tend to loose grand battles in most hero movie franchises, but there's still something appealing about being a cool bad guy...
LOL Thanks for the feedback Caemgen. I'll start with one character and build from there. It’s good to know that we can switch personas from good to evil in the future, or vice versa.
It was the peculiar art I saw posted on DA that drew me to this franchise.
Thus I started drawing samples to build my portfolio, and my quest for more led me beyond the fan arts, here, to the original website.
As an artist, I take character creation seriously; so I’ll probably draft my guy first, before using the game designing software to try and mimic it as much as possible
Had a prob with the game download, & I'll be contacting admin with some questions tomorrow.

You are right, her prison time allowed her the time to think, to cry and come to terms with who she is and what happened aka Rite of passage.
Its funny how a character first made on a trial account lets your mind wander and begin creating, even if at the time you let the account lapse.
Then a few years later you think, Hey why not try CoH again? But this time with an almost complete bio.
Did take a little trip to your domain DSNG and nice homepage I see you colored Statesman, but I was unable to see it bigger when I clicked on it (no problem with the pencil sketches). aka Server error.
Seems I also did get server errors on most of the pencil sketches that followed.

Welcome aboard! Add another talented artist to the CoX fanbase for me to be jealous of.
And as for hero or villain, do both, get the best of both worlds. Whatever you do, enjoy.

Hmm, DSNG, might have to scratch the Server error thingy. *scratches my head wondering how I did get to see the colored Statesman* On page, no. Followed link afterwards... yes?
Alllrightythen, nevermind. Enjoying the picture, Its States in all his glory.
(My other char would have gone "wee" (she is a States Fan) )
Oh and as Dante says, make both, most of all have fun (When you get connected)

LOL That’s cool. Glad you got the sneakpeak at the colors. My blog usually gets updated before every other web site I oversee, including the deviantart and facebook fanpage. I test things there, and often change/edit colored pics there first, before “sending them abroad”.
I guessed your bio took quite time to write; it was very comprehensive. Some people are gamers first. Others are artists. I quickly concluded that you are a writer [is that accurate?]
Guess it couldn't hurt to have a hero and an arch nemesis for him to hunt.
I'll head over to the DSNG blog site and check all the image links
Thanks for the welcome & pointers Dante.
Man, I'll admit to you that there are pro-artists that I envy as well.
I've learnt that drawing is comparable to driving. Some people do it perfectly on their first try, others just need a bit more practice. But trust me, practice makes perfect
Here is the colored Statesman poster:
I'm still new to the COH franchise. I've noted that this guy is the flagship char / equivalent of Superman. If anyone knows the COH equivalent of Wonderwoman, please let me know.
Color added a lot. Welcome to CoH, and enjoy your stay!
As for Wonderwoman, I personally think it's Miss Liberty, Statesmans granddaughter.
Goodbye. Not to the game, but the players. Goodbye. Everyone, remember to have fun. That's all I can say.
If you want to be looking up any of the game's lore, this is a good place to start:

Welcome to the game, now is a great time to be starting.
Wow, colour makes it even better.
As for a Wonder Woman equivalent... hmmm... Miss Liberty is a good bet but the most often featured woman on CoX merchandising tends to be Sister Psyche. But then she's less Wonder Woman and more Jean Grey IMHO.
And I must do more drawing myself, as you say, practice makes perfect.

Wow. That's freakin' awesome!! The colors totally took it to the next level!!
*wonders if that will summon War Witch* >.>

Well, yea, I think I got more of a writer in me, although only on hobby basis.
I've not written much in CoH, only various stuff for Roleplay and thus mostly for my second character - Cyrene.
I try to create a novel, but that novel has been on hold for some time. Due to writers block and me wanting to create the mythology and history at the same time as the current story (while missing and wanting to create a map).
I so hope I can manage to bite over what I'm chewing or trying to chew

Wow the color really punches it up man. Lots of good detail work going on in the background too.
Few small things I might point out, if you care for constructive criticism, would be:
The blue stripe on the fringe of his cape fades to red near the end of the line.
The wraparound with Paragon City written on it looks transparent (I can see the spire through it) on
the front side but more solid on the backside and it doesn't appear to be attached to anything.
Not sure what the red shape is just outside his metal mask? If it's his ear and jawline I would suggest moving it down and in a bit.
His eyeline should roughly be the top of his ear and I don't think you should see much of his jaw if at all.
Hands seem a little small and on the fingers of his right hand the facet of the knuckles facing the viewer seem
to get smaller almost like they are going towards a vanishing point.
Rest is looking good and the City of Heroes billboard was a nice touch.
You could always go for the gritty anti-hero type (think Wolverine) but hey no reason to limit yourself, as others have mentioned try em both H and V and once you get a either to level 20 (it used to be 50) you will unlock the epic archetypes (Peacebringers & Warshades blueside and Soldiers of Arachnos redside) too. Have fun experimenting and great time to join as we just got a whole new city (Praetoria) to explore.
What problems are you having with the game? There might be someone here who has had it and already knows the fix.
Thanks Terminal Velocity, I'll look up Miss Liberty...
Thanks for the link Zandock
Thanks Kheldarn. Right now I don't know who War Witch is, I'll have to look her up
Greetings to my fellow heroes and villains
I'm a graphic designer in Atlanta. ...Downloading the game right now. Wanted to share some recent fan art I did of the Statesman:
http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_Wa5ZmL_ju48/TLJGI-RcNzI/AAAAAAAAATw/2trmIabrCSs/s1600/the+statesman+1+city+of+heroes+by+dsng.jpg
Pic was inspired by a Superman pose done by art legend Jim lee.
I hope to post the colored version of the pic tomorrow [Monday].
Still working on my OC for the game; torn between creating a hero or a villain.
