Fiery Aura

Hello.

I have no idea how to slot FA for best results.

Could I get some advice on this from ye the scrapper gurus?

I'm okay with IO sets, but no purps please. Just can't afford those atm.

Cheers!

Do you know what primary you'll be using? That can have a slight or significant change on how a secondary is set up.

Most scrappers slot for enough defense bonuses to reach the soft cap for at least smashing/lethal. After that, recharge, global accuracy, regeneration, recovery, and hit points are other good bonuses to have. You will need to give us more information than just your primary or secondary power set if you want someone to help you with specifics on builds.

I'd be mildly surprised if you could soft-cap smashing and lethal on a Fiery Aura Scrapper without a lot of compromises to your damage-dealing. I decided not to soft-cap a Fire Tanker after looking it over carefully, and settled instead for a medium level of defense.

can you actually sfot cap on FA? I thought the set had 0% def to it. So you need like 30+% from sets after pool skillz.

You shouldn't need to softcap, anyway. Fiery Aura really benefits from layered mitigation (well... all sets do, but hopefully you get my drift). So, adding on to your resists and defense with Tough and Weave can help you out if you want more survivability, and will do plenty short of the softcap: especially because of Healing Flames.

Getting your defense to about 20% to lethal or all types will make a noticeable difference in what you can take, and if you can push it higher it obviously gets even better. What level of difficulty you want to be able to take also makes a difference, obviously.

I haven't gotten my Fire/Fire Scrapper too high just yet, as I have other alts I've been working on more heavily (and I just like running Fire/Fire with my Tank, usually), but that's the methodology that works pretty well for Fire/Fire. I do have a cheaper, more offensive build for my Fire/Fire tank that has about 22% to S/L that does pretty well. That's with no Tough or Weave as well. No Kinetic Combats, but does have two sets of Obliteration, which is more spendy (went for more recharge with that build). That version does pretty well unless I'm facing a lot of exotic damage, like Carnies. So you do have a lot of build choice options.

Oh, recharge helps your offense and survivability with Fire/Fire, as the sooner you get Healing Flames up, the better. That will also help your offense, of course.

Hi,

My scrapper is 50 and is fire/fire.

So far, I've slotted for def but he still seems very squishy. I'm at work so can't post my build atm.

I guess I'm just wondering which IO Sets would be best for the powers that accept defence sets.

Thanks!

I usually go for S/L defense instead of melee defense. For S/L mainly look for Kinetic Combats for your attacks and Reactive Armor for your resist powers. To get respectable numbers in defense you'll likely need to take CJ, Weave and Maneuvers.

Before the nerf to Blessing of the Zephyr, a /fire or /elec could be softcapped against everything. Without that nerf, and the I19 changes, such a build could still have been made with a capable attack chain.

Oh, the glory that could have been..... (sigh)

Heck, I haven't poked at the numbers, but I bet you could still get realllly close. Take combat jumping, manuevers, weave, and stealth, then stack on bonuses until your arms hurt.

An elec armor could even run all that.
