Random Thought: Proliferate Sonic Resonance

A thought struck me earlier, why don't MM's have Sonic Resonance? It looks like it'd work just fine on them, maybe with a modification or two but still, mostly just fine.

Agree or disagree?

Edit: Or, heck, maybe change it around a bit and make it a pseudo-Leadership secondary,

I asked for that one before too, as well as Rad.

The only answers I got were "Sonic simply hasn't been prof'd yet"
and "Rad? way too powerful"

Thugs would be so awesome with sonic. Casting Disruption field on Bruiser would be sweet! Or on one of the jounins for that matter. *sigh* keep hoping I guess...

Whilest I agree with this I do sort of hope it doesn't happen soon, merely because I'm afflicted with Altisis badly enough already.

Although that being said I'm not sure I could stand being a Sonic MM and having to do the Buff routine every 4 minutes.

But Demons/Sonic would be pretty interesting and would work well (if even just as an experiment in the noisiest character one could make )

a possible reason for this is that it MIGHT be seen as overpowered.

two out of three pet tiers of thugs and ninjas are the only MM pets that make use of defense without any resistance to back them up, most other MM pets carry sizable resistances with them at top levels.
Adding Sonic Resonance might, theoretically, allow for Resistance capped pets.

Then again, the previous statement also fails to account for the dismal buff and debuff modifier values used by MMs that seem to only be just a little above scrappers, tanks, and stalkers.

Sonic Resonance would add about 42% Resistance to pets with slotted powers at MM values.
Existing pets with resistance get 26%, so this would push them up to 68% or so to the types they're already resistant to. The Pet resistance IO would cap it at 75% (if that is the pet cap, I dont know).

Considering you're not giving them any other defensive bonuses that isn't too much. No defence, no heals. Most pets have limited resiatance (eg Lethal, Cold, Psi for Robots) and Sonic does have a big gaping Psi hole in its resistances.

I think it would really nicely as an MM secondary set.

Speaking of proliferation and the secondaries of Masterminds and Defenders, why don't Defs get Thermal? I hope it's only another case of "Yeah we just didn't get around to it yet."

Probably because the thematic match of Fire Blast lacks any kind of mez power, which defender secondaries all have at least one of.

Most defender secondaries have some kind of useful debuffing side effect to leverage.
Archery is the only current defender secondary that lacks a secondary effect to speak of, and it at least gets a mez power (Stunning Shot, or Arrow, or whatever it's called, the stun)

Fire Blast has neither of those in it, it's secondary effect is more damage, which doesn't do a defender much good when they get chain mezzed because they couldn't mez the LT that's doing it first. For the AT that is most susceptible to mezzes, giving them a secondary with no way to prevent them is like saying "Here you go, have fun dying repeatedly because a mezzing enemy chain-held you"

Yes, I am aware that you can have a Fire/Thermal corruptor. I'm also aware that a mezzing enemy that you can't kill in 2 shots is a nightmare for them to fight. You get caught without a breakfree and you're pretty much screwed.

That's just my best guess at it, I have no real idea why it hasn't been proliferated yet.

As far as Sonic Resonance goes, I'm expecting either that or Cold Domination to be the next set MMs get in proliferation.

I think the main reason it hasn't is simply that something has to be last. Also Fire has two pseudopets which do lots of damage, so there may be more work in porting it, or if they are going the Ice route there isn't any work but they just don't want to hand that much firepower to Defenders without thinking about it first and either making changes to other nukes, or to all the 'Rain of' blast powers first for Defenders.

1. MMs already get Thermal, which is better than Sonic in almost every way, so there's no reason not to give it to them.

2. Defenders don't have Fire because it hasn't been proliferated yet. The pseudopets aren't the issue because Ice's were ported without any changes, and the lack of debuff/mez probably isn't it because that's a rather silly reason to not give an AT a particular powerset.
