The Comic Book Story Draft ROUND 1 PART 1
1. The Infinity Gauntlet
I actually wasn't that fond of Identity Crisis. It had some fairly jarring retcons, and had a formerly nice character become murderous for no apparent reason. Meanwhile, Thanos rules.
2. Crisis on Infinite Earths
I haven't read any Vertigo titles in a very long time, because they just aren't my style. Y has no appeal to me. CoIE changed the face of DC Comics in a big way.
3. Demon in a Bottle
Like Vertigo, the Sin City stuff has no appeal for me. Worse, I don't like Frank Miller's art. I wouldn't rate Demon in a Bottle all that high on the list, but I did enjoy the story.
4. The Dark Phoenix Saga (X-Men [vol. 1] #129-138, 1980)
Claremont and Byrne. Some of my favorite times from the X-Men. The Action Comics story didn't really interest me much.
5. Wolverine from 1982.
The old style Wolverine isn't high on my list, but it beats anything in Vertigo for me.
6. Devil May Cry
I know the Killing Joke has a lot of popularity, and it should win this fight easily, but I'll give a pity vote to the manga.
7. The Great Darkness Saga
This is really no contest for me.
8. The Sinestro Corps War
I loved the Sinestro Corps War.
1. The Infinity Gauntlet I just enjoyed this one better.
2. Crisis on Infinite Earths is a classic for a reason. Y's just does not appeal to me.
3. Demon in a Bottle I like the hard good bye better but DIAB is a better storyline.
4. Action Comics #775 - "What's So Funny About Truth, Justice, and the American Way?" I always hated the DP saga.
5. Death: The High Cost of Living I know I have a thing for short hairy men but Death is a better story over all.
6. The Killing Joke it is a classic for a reason.
7. The Great Darkness Saga I know voting against my own pick here and while I fully believe in the merits of KA's story and world. GDS is an even more amazing story.
8. Mad Love gotta vote for my girl Harley.
Shadowy Presence - Absolutely, positively worse than playing a Kheldian... --Myrmydon
Oops. Sorry about that, Teldon.
1. Identity Crisis
I'd hate to see Infinity Gauntlet eliminated in the first round, but Identity Crisis is one of my top five favorites and I can't vote against it.
2. Crisis on Infinite Earths
This is hard for me to admit but I have to vote against Y because I... haven't read it yet. >.> BUT I did just buy the first three TPB's so I may or may not regret my vote later. But Crisis was great, so maybe not?
3. The Hard Goodbye
Marv is awesome.
4. The Dark Phoenix Saga (X-Men [vol. 1] #129-138, 1980)
5. Death: The High Cost of Living
6. The Killing Joke
Wish I'd been able to get this as one of my picks, but I wanted Watchmen more.
7. Kick ***
Haven't read the Great Darkness Saga, but Kick A** is one of the most aptly named books of all time.
8. The Sinestro Corps War
Lethal Force has been enabled.

3 picks in the first round. I could be out really fast.
1. Identity Crisis - With the art it's a tossup but the thing that does it for me is the emotional weight of the story
2. Y: The Last Man vol. 1 - "Unmanned" - The first Crisis meandered a bit and was much better drawn than written, while Y: The Last Man is something that I would suggest or point out to anyone that doubts the merits of the medium
3. The Hard Goodbye - Marv is just a more interesting character
4. Action Comics #775 - "What's So Funny About Truth, Justice, and the American Way?" - Both are great, but Superman's story has the edge with the better art and the commentary
5. Death: The High Cost of Living - I doubted the quality of this story after I mistakenly purchased The Time of Your Life first, but High Cost was much better and achieved what I think Gaiman was going for: it actually made you eager to meet Death, which is twisted
6. The Killing Joke - Even though I think Moore's overrated, this story is easily superior in this matchup
7. The Great Darkness Saga - Haven't read either of them, but I know their plots, and The Great Darkness Saga seems like something I would enjoy reading a lot more
8. The Sinestro Corps War - Ridiculously good art and an epic space adventure

Could be a lean vote for this draft.
1. The Infinity Gauntlet : Thanos rocks, but never harder than here.
2. Crisis on Infinite Earths : Only the most important comic book story ever.
3. Demon in a Bottle : A character-defining story about an iconic hero.
4. The Dark Phoenix Saga (X-Men [vol. 1] #129-138, 1980) : Even though it has been cheapened by the retcons over the years, the original tale of Phoenix martyring herself to save the universe from herself is genre-defining and poignant.
5. Wolverine from 1982. : The story that defined the character.
6. The Killing Joke : The defining Joker/Batman story.
7. The Great Darkness Saga : Darkseid has never been more epic. And that's saying something.
8. Mad Love : Harley Quinn, sigh.

It just doesn't interest me.
Similarly, I don't expect most people around here to like Claymore, even though I think it's an amazing manga series. Different people are amazed by different things.
If the low voter turnout looks bad to you guys, imagine how much of a sad panda it makes me.
