Full Keyboard not compatible?

Why does this game not allow use on the number pad on the right side of a full keyboard?

It would be perfect...WASD for movement with the left hand...and the number pad for powers with the right hand.

i'm pretty sure you can set the numpad keys to trigger tray powers under options, or simply write a bindfile to do it. With a bindfile you can even assign them to work with the alt keys for your secondary tray.

Edit: Not having done this myself i don't have a file set up to do that to show you.

It does, but you would have to rebind it to do so. Plenty of folks use the numpad in all manner of ways.

Be well, people of CoH.

Big favor to ask then...

...could someone write up an "how-to", so that I can set up my keyboard that way?

You can use it as such, Vitality. You just have to rebind the keys to do so.

/bind numpad1 "powexec_slot 1"
...
/bind numpad0 "powexec_slot 10"

A lot of people prefer to use their numpad for situational binds instead of attacks, though. For instance, it's a great way to control a Mastermind's pets while still keeping access to their personal powers on the top row of number keys.

Edit:
For the Ctrl and Alt versions, you'd want to bind the following:

/bind ALT+numpad1 "powexec_altslot 1"
...
/bind ALT+numpad0 "powexec_altslot 10"

and

/bind CTRL+numpad1 "powexec_alt2slot 1"
...
/bind CTRL+numpad1 "powexec_alt2slot 10"

If this is something you think you'll want to do on EVERY CHARACTER, you can set a default "keybinds.txt" file in your CoH program folder, and any new characters created will automatically absorb those binds.

Nice...I really appreciate the help.

There's a guide to creating binds here.

This section may be of particular interest:
Activating Powers by Slot

* /bind <key> “powexec_slot <number of slot for wanted power on tray>” Execute the power indicated by the number on the bottom row of the power tray. Examples from Grotus/Arzen535/Storyteller:

/bind numpad1 "powexec_slot 1"
/bind numpad2 "powexec_slot 2"
/bind numpad3 "powexec_slot 3"
/bind numpad4 "powexec_slot 4"
/bind numpad5 "powexec_slot 5"
/bind numpad6 "powexec_slot 6"
/bind numpad7 "powexec_slot 7"
/bind numpad8 "powexec_slot 8"
/bind numpad9 "powexec_slot 9"
/bind numpad0 "powexec_slot 10"
/bind mbutton "powexec_slot 9"

* /bind <key> “powexec_altslot <desired slot>” Executes the power in the alternate slot indicated. Alternate slot indicates the row on your power tray NOT on the bottom. Examples from Grotus:

/bind alt+numpad1 "powexec_altslot 1"
/bind alt+numpad2 "powexec_altslot 2"
/bind alt+numpad3 "powexec_altslot 3"
/bind alt+numpad4 "powexec_altslot 4"
/bind alt+numpad5 "powexec_altslot 5"
/bind alt+numpad6 "powexec_altslot 6"
/bind alt+numpad7 "powexec_altslot 7"
/bind alt+numpad8 "powexec_altslot 8"
/bind alt+numpad9 "powexec_altslot 9"
/bind alt+numpad0 "powexec_altslot 10"

Go to Menu
Select Options
Select Keymapping Tab
Scroll down to Powers section
Where it says Tray Slot 1, click where it says "Not Set" on the right
Press the 1 on the number pad
Repeat for Tray Slot 2-9

That will set it up so you can use either the numbers on the main part or the number pad.

Similar to Masterminds leaving the NumPad for their pets, many of my fellow buffers use the NumPad keys for macros to apply shields to teammates more easily rather than clicking on their names.

Top-row number keys for tray 1 powers, numpad keys for 1337 shieldz. YMMV.

D'oh! I bind the numberpad all the time... didn't even think of using the control & alt with it... >.<

And I've definintely edited the default file to include my global chat binds for every character I make.

I also have special "power specific" bind files set up, and have one keybind in my default file that I can use to load them up...

CTRL+B "beginchat /bind_load_file c:\CoH_binds\"

So, all I have to do is type in the name of the file I want loaded up, such as "jump.txt", or "flight1.txt"; or even character specific files like Emily's, which has a complex system of rotating chat binds to recite poetry.

I feel the need to yet again tell people that you can't use LALT, RALT, LCTRL, RCTRL, LSHIFT, or RSHIFT as cord keys.

You can use any of them as a stand alone key, but not as a modifier key.

To recap:
LALT+<key>, RALT+<key> = ALT+<key>
LCTRL+<key>, RCTRL+<key> = CTRL+<key>
LSHIFT+<key>, RSHIFT+<key> = SHIFT+<key>

Any guide that suggests otherwise is misleading you.

And once you have your binds set up the way you like, type:

/bindsave

to save your binds as a file named "keybinds.txt", which can be edited with a text editor.

Or type:

/bindsavefile yourfilenamehere.txt

which will save your binds as a file with a name of your choosing, where "yourfilenamehere" can be (almost) whatever you want.

Then, when you log on a character that you want to use those binds, type:

/bindload (if you used /bindsave)

or

/bindloadfile yourfilenamehere.txt (if you used a custom file name).

You can also use the following keywords for other keys on numpad:

NUMLOCK for Numlock
DIVIDE for "/"
MULTIPLY for "*"
SUBTRACT for "-"
ADD for "+"
NUMPADENTER for "Enter"
DECIMAL for "."
