iPhone Apps Suggestions
Instapaper is great for archiving/formatting articles from the web to read on the iPhone (think of it as the equivalent of Safari's Reader feature).
Pandora- music app
Dictionary
Shazam- music app (analyzes songs you hear and tells you the artist and album info)
Red Laser- scans barcodes and gives you prices online and in stores in your area
I just got my iPhone last month and am loving it. And I was one of those that thought there was no way I'd get an iPhone. Until I started polling friends and researching. While I don't have any "Apple" hate I still do not care for iTunes one bit. But I'm getting used to it.

I was just thinking this morning that I need an iPhone app to check whether a name is already taken in CoH. The game has been out so long every name I can think of has been taken.
I rather like the Fandango movie app. I used to use a different one but it seems to have died of neglect. The Fandango one works fine, and gives you all the showtimes and other information you might need.
Around Me, is also another nice app which can find stuff for you based on category (need a restaurant, ask, need auto repair, ask, etc) and will locate it on your map.
Too many alts to list.
Which dictionary app, Dictionary, Dictionary! or Dictionary.com?
I also got
for Audiobooks: Audible and Overdrive. Overdrive allow you to check out mp3 library audios from your local library, once you check them out from the library. If you use your desktop to upload the audiobooks you can covert the ones in the windows media format. For the MP3s I use the Iphones safari to check out the available audio mp3 books and Overdrive to download to the player. The only other issue is that the can only be played on Overdrive and the books are no longer accessible after the due date passes.
Audible uses a custom format, but Itunes recognizes it. You can play other non drm audiobooks on the audible player and can bookmark them. You can also download previous purchases over the Iphone so you so not have to sync up all the time.
For Netflix: IQueue and Netflix. IQueue is made by a thrid party handles your Netflix queue for AT Home and Instant Viewing. Netflix release an app last month that will actually play from your Instant Queue if you preset it up. It will also let you search for movies. Currently it will not let you manage your movie/TV queue, and that is why I rely on the other app.
For Comics: DC, Marvel, IDW. I use their apps to read the free e-comic, though I could purchase items to if I want.
I also downloaded the Kindle app and the Amazon app just in case.
Verizon FiOS has an app to program 1 DVR once they devices are synced. I also use the app to check what is on in the evening.
For Music, SoundHound is another program like Shazam. I have the free version of both. Iheartradio, LastFM and AOL Radio to capture internet radio or stations in other states.
For Games a mixture of free and paid. I recently got the new Spider-man game, Sol Free Solitare, a couple of trek like games in GalaxyTrek and Trek Quest, Lightstaber, Ironman and Ironman 2. I also got the trek Tricorder since I had the black and white version on my old palm and the Communicator app. The Communicator app is a little weak for the price, but it still has enough cool factor for me to keep it.
I got the google app, even though there is already some overlap on the Iphone. I also got Bing and Opera for alternates. I even found a Firefox app that will sync my bookmarks and tabs from my home desktop broswer.
For time keeping: Alarm Clock or Best Alarm. You can set multiple alarm, they both use multitasking, have a portrait and Landscape clock mode and will allow you to set alarms from Ipod and playlists.
I got alot of crap on it too, or stuff that others may not find as interesting. but at least the crap stuff was free.

Congratulations, new follower of the great Temple of Jobs. Collect your robe and inner light of truth from the mystic monks of Genius and then get hold of these:
EPIC WIN:
Earn XP, "loot" and levels for doing RL stuff. Not just damn good fun, actually the best To-Do List app I've had on my phone and handles repeated events, phone calls and daily to-do's much better than other's I've run into - though it could use an alarm function. And I just scored a Tattoo Of Incarceration!
DISTANT SUNS:
Superb astronomy app - the author also "pings" you with news about cool stuff that you might want to look out for like asteroid storms and other phenomena. Perfect for those moonless nights when the police scanner's quiet and your informants aren't calling. Lite version works just as well.
LIGHTSABER UNLEASHED (aka Lightsaber Free):
If you have nieces or nephews, you'll know why.
iEXPENSEIT
Keep track of how those pennies roll in... and out. Potentially rather depressing.
BJANGO JOBS
One for anyone who works for themselves - makes an auditable record of how long you've worked on a job. (Not that you can't alter it afterwards... *cough*)
GPS V-COCKPIT
Interprets your GPS readout (so it works as a GPS reader) and phone alignment (so it works as a spirit level) as a cockpit screen and also tracks time, elevation and speed. Plus it makes aeroplane noises. Great fun for sitting next to nervous first time fliers on RyanAir/Southwest.
VOUCHERCLOUD
Not sure if this is UK only, but works out where you are based on GPS and then offers you free stuff. You don't even have to print the vouchers.
FOURSQUARE
Hideously addictive territorial warfare game disguised as social networking app, which frequently spills over into real life violence as two nerds duel at dawn for the right to be mayor of Starbucks. Now also offers vouchers and competitions.
PEGGLE
...will eat your life. I've had friends and kids borrow this for two minutes to try and not give it back till the battery was drained.
Other stuff:
- Lonely Planet City Guides (keep an eye out for their regular sales & giveaways)
- Twitter For iPhone (formerly known as Tweetie 2)
- Bump
- Skype
- Survival Pocket Reference
Is it time for the dance of joy yet?
If you want to use your iPod touch to take notes, get the Shapewriter app. It's the best note taking app out there, and the free version is probably all you need.
My favorite weather app is the one from Weather Underground. It has several features, like hourly projections, the other weather apps don't have.
As for book readers, I prefer Stanza, but I haven't done a thorough analysis of all of them. I'm not happy with reading on the Ipod Touch, the screen's too small. The iPad is better for that.

New Webcomic -- Genocide Man
Life is funny. Death is funnier. Mass slaughter can be hilarious.
Hey gang,
I just got an iPhone on Sunday. I've wanted one for a few years and it finally made sense financially. I'm sure I'll get anti Apple telling me I should have got something else but that is irrelevant.
I'm not even an "Apple guy" I just like the iphone.
anyway to those of you that have one already could you recommend some Apps?
Anything either useful or fun would be appreciated.
I currently have:
Facebook
mafia wars
farmville
angrybirds lite
igun lite
amazon
battery magic
free ones would be best but i'm not against spending a few dollars for something good. thanks everyone
