Fatal Bug: Task Force Crash and Reward Loss

At around 4:20pm Pacific time, I was on a team that completed the Synapse Task Force. I received the Synapse's Cohort and Abomination badges, and 58 Reward Merits. Very happy!

Then people start exiting the mission, and everyone mapserves. When we log back in, we're standing there at the mission door, team disbanded, and nobody has the badges or Merits they just received seconds prior.

At this time, we're still waiting for a response from NCsoft Support, but I'll tell you the kind of response I don't want to hear: "We have no proof you completed that Task Force, so you're SOL."

I was on that taskforce with Guyperfect, and I lost the aforementioned merits & badges when I mapserved while exiting the final mission.

I also was on the team and experienced the same thing. My merits and badges do not show they were awarded. My toon name is Scarlet Evans.

Hhhmmm. I completed a Synapse about this same time, but walked away after quitting the TF for dinner. I had expected my character to afk and then inactive log, but came back to find CoH had crashed.

Reading the forums I wonder if we were in the same TF (I was playing an elec/ dom name of Myriam).

Regardless, I just logged in to check and I have both badge and merits awarded successfully.

There were six people on the team:

  • Demonic.Anarchist (Mastermind)
  • Meridian Pryme (Blaster)
  • Queynt (Brute)
  • Kriegstantz (Brute)
  • Scarlet Evans (Corruptor)
  • Bob the Biohazard (Mastermind)
Server was Triumph.

I couldn't get in touch with Demonic.Anarchist after the fact, but I do have an idea. If they were a Rogue and they called Synapse after the Task Force before everyone exited the map, the Alignment mixture may have triggered a bug that reset the character status.

On-map or no, everyone on the team reported mapserving.

OK, we were on Justice. Similar crash at a similar time, but as I said I did receive the reward. Weird.

Is anyone going to respond with regard to this bug? I've not been awarded the badge or merits nor have I received a response by email regarding same.

Nothing I can add. I finished a Citadel last night and nothing like that happened.

I know a long time ago (like well over a year) the disconnect-after-TF-finished for Synpase was a big problem. Sometimes people would lose their award and sometimes not. I don't remember the specifics. I thought it was fixed about the same time they stopped auto-disbanding the team when the contact was called the last time.

Edit to add: Waiting for Support to get back to you is really all you can do at this point.

I was Queynt. As usual, I had flipped to the forums during zoning so I wasn't paying attention. And when I came back, I went immediately to check my recipes inventory to see if I had snagged anything good (nope). When I looked back at the team for post-TF chit chat, I noticed that everyone was already gone except for an MM, which I guess was Demonic. I said see-yas to him as I took off for Bobcat to train, but he didn't respond. I didn't have the star, so after a bit, I quit the team. I don't know if he had crashed after exiting or was just afk to pee. I did receive the badge and Merits.


Teams are the number one killer of soloists.

I was on a Positron just last night and the team was auto-disbanded when I called him afterwards. The whole team (both of us) found that odd, as the feature was supposedly changed.

After I sent a support ticket in-game, I got an e-mail from NCsoft Support

It contained both my petition...

I like that! When a customer support representative isn't able/allowed to address a particular issue, he passes it onto someone who can. That's exactly what I like to see, and had no hard feelings up until this point.

So I waited... and waited.

Two days later (today), I receive the NCsoft Support Survey. I said the response time could have been improved by responding at all.

Speaking as the other half that whole team: true story. He called in to Posi after we saved the dam, and suddenly I was no longer on a team. Neither of us quit the team (I checked chat window for any "You have quit your team" or "the other guy quit the team" messages and saw none. Just called in the mission and *poof* we disbanded.

Did you even read the emphasis? This not the place for official support, so why would you continue adding specific detail for the Devs here? You are in the wrong place. If you had a repeatable bug that we could discuss, then this would be the right place, but it seems that an unstable zone or server hiccup caused your problem. That's an isolated issue, not a bug. None of us can award your team the badges.

If there was an issue with your /petition, log into the support site and update the petition politely asking what the progress is... whether or not they are data-mining it, etc..

The devs check this board, and very often bugs get fixed this way.

Your problem was likely caused by an unstable zone or server hiccup. That's an isolated issue. What is your bug?

All you've basically done so far is tell us who was on your team, but we can't award you the badges. Don't get me wrong, we can all sympathize with your issue. I'm sure most of us have had one kind of "rollback" or another over the years, resulting in lost progress or awards, but sometimes there are things we can neither predict nor prevent. This just happens to be one of them. Sorry.

The only thing you can do is keep your /petitions going or run the TF again. I'm not sure what other kind of response you are looking for.

Just like that? Despite its impeccable timing, despite being a known issue in the past, and despite changes to Task Force mechanics not applying in some recent cases, you dismiss the issue as some unrelated occurrence and then ask what problem applies to me?

There's evidence to suggest something's fouled up in the code that's run when you call your contact at the end of a Task Force. I believe it is what was responsible for this Task Force crash.

As before, this thread only exists to bring the issue to the devs' attention since it likely needs to be looked at.

Additionally, NCsoft Support has subsequently awarded my character the Synapse's Cohort badge (and with it, Abomination) and 58 Reward Merits. Not that the timing has anything to do with this thread, but the survey was definitely sent out too soon if the ticket was never even closed.
