Blaster Farming?
Yes, pretty much any blaster can stealth up to a spawn, pop Aim + BU + Inferno/Nova/Etc. and fry at least 90% of the baddies before they know you're there. However, I don't know if you could call that "farming" if you're relying exclusively on your Tier 9 that has a base 6 minute recharge.
On the other hand, yes, a well-built blaster can farm by just running up to a bunch of baddies and melting their faces with a standard AoE attack chain. It helps to have some defense if you want to go that route, admittedly.
Rule number six of an empathy defender is NEVER underestimate a blaster's ability to die. I don't care if he has CM, Fort, both RAs, bubbles (both FF and Sonic), and is fighting next to a Storm defender with hurricane on. If there is a way to die in that situation, the blaster will find it.
I was trading farms on freedom with my ** and (for the life of me cannot remember his name) was using an arch/mental blaster that had softcapped S/L. he was clearing an ambush farm considerably faster than my **, and almost just as safely. I am not sure as to what exact build he was using, but i am sure it was pricey, and def had the fighing pool. may be something for you to look into.
You'd be better off going with Build Up + Aim then Fire Breath > Psychic Scream then running in and launching Fire Ball > Psychic Shockwave and have pretty much annihilated everything.

Dark/Shield Build Thread
Would this work? Notice this is a cheap build without the purple sets. I also notice all the set bonus caps. How should I change them. This is built for recharge.

Okay. That will work when Inferno isn't up. I still think inferno will help when up though.
I want to try to use the PbAoE tier 9. It compares to shield/elec to me. Fast and effiecient.
Okay. That will work when Inferno isn't up. I still think inferno will help when up though. |
Inferno's recharge is 6 minutes base. Shield charge is only 90 seconds. Inferno's not fast and efficient. If you want to farm with a Blaster Tier 9, Archery is the best bet. Archery/Energy and Archery/MM are the fastest farming Blasters. The first is the safest IMO it tears BM apart, because you can Boost Range + BU + Aim + RoA + Explosive Arrow and almost everything's gone. Repeat 30-60 seconds later, depending on the recharge in your build.
If you're going to farm with Fire/ your best friend is Fire Ball. Fire Breathe is dangerous if you're alone, and Rain of Fire's scatter is counter productive if there's no one immobilizing.
What can be said for it, however, is with Mace or Ice as your Epic, you could get at or near softcapped S/L defense... that'd make BM easy no matter what you were using.

I play heroes on Champion.
I play villains on Virtue.

I mean Inferno is fast because I hit one power. Efficient because it kill almost everything. I understand that it takes a long time to recharge. Wouldn't snowstorm slow the badds enough to hit RoF and get in, and hit Inferno. I will use fireball when inferno's not up. I'll try to add a little defence.
|
Also remember that Inferno's only going to hit 16 targets. Unless you go absolutely bananas with recharge, you're only talking about 5 kills a minute. It's very inefficient.

It would certainly make things better. The runspeed is -50%, so it would keep them packed tight twice as long. I'd still prefer a bigger debuff or a straight immobilize.

The Nethergoat Archive: all my memories, all my characters, all my thoughts on CoH...eventually.
My City Was Gone
Archery Blasters have been farming for a while.
I know. They do it pretty well too.
what type of Arch blaster farms...as in what secondary? Ive been debting a blaster. But Ive been more focused on pvp...but the blaster farming might be a challange and fun
I am gonna do this for farming... Gonna try to stun the mob with Opressive Gloom and PSW and I will kill the ones not stunned first. This build has a stun, immob, self buff and AoE damage. I havent tried it yet, but I hope it works

Proton Sentry Peacebringer:lvl 50+++ - Human Build / Triform Build
Quasar Sentry Warshade:lvl 50+- Human Build / Triform Build
Red Katipo Arachnos Soldier:lvl 50+++ - Crab Build / Bane Build
Black Katipo Arachnos Widowlvl 50+++ - Fortunata Build / Night Widow Build
The problem is both of those are Mag 2 stuns....do they affect Lts/Bosses?

what type of Arch blaster farms...as in what secondary? Ive been debting a blaster. But Ive been more focused on pvp...but the blaster farming might be a challange and fun

And that's a good point about Fire/Ice. Ice Patch is a great way to make any "rain" power do its job really well.
The only "problems" I see with that build is it's very expensive for how effective it will be. A comparable build using sets more inclined to farm, a build for defense, (or of course another AT), would be way faster.
Also, on the off chance you would be doing anything else (that could involve exemplaring, like TFs) you may want to move the purples to the last possible place, so when you ex you still get the recharge and recovery.
You may also want to pop a stealth IO in someplace so you can sneak in when DP drops. Keeping DP up as much as possible appears to be your only chance of surviving anything real difficult.

I play heroes on Champion.
I play villains on Virtue.
Like I said above, the best bets are archery/energy and archery/mental. Most people vote the second as the fastest, because of the extra cone attack and drain psyche. I would take archery/energy for soloing though because I believe it's safer (boost range keeps you out of their range).

The key factor for my farming maps is picking a map that the mobs are in a tight group.

Rain of Arrows isn't like Rain of Fire. It's not over a long period of time so mobs can run out. Rain of Arrows has a 4 second delay, then ticks 3 times in (I think) 1.5 seconds. They aren't made aware of your presence if you keep your distance until the first tick hits. If you were at Boost Range type distances, they won't be able to hit you until well after your Explosive Arrow has landed.

It's on Battle Maiden and everything.
Kendo uses defense rather than distance, which is pretty easy to build for as well.

Now to work on a build...accolades...etcetc
I was on a BM farm with my Dark/Dark/Dark Defener. I was running +2/X8 with one friend. I asked if I could solo the next group. So, I launched Fluffy, hit Howling Twilight, dropped tar patch, hit soul drain, and finally I went with Blackstar. It killed most of them so I popped a blue, and went with Dark Consumption. Toggles back up, I picked the rest off. This started an idea in my head. Can a blaster farm with a PbAoE tier 9? I picked some powers out. Will it work? If yes, how do I slot it?
