What do I aim for with IO's on an SS/Fire?

Having hit the low 30's with my new SS/Fire Brute, I'm at the point where I feel comfortable starting to buy set IO's, and I've got a good 700 million worth of Inf built up to spend on her. I'm planning on making her a farmer, but at the moment she is very soft and filled with mush.

So I'm wondering what I ought to be doing to help her out with IO's. Should I be aiming to build up her defenses, or should I go for absolutely as much recharge as possible to burn through enemies before they kill me and spam Healing Flames?

I'm also not quite sure what I ought to be taking and skipping as far as powers go. I've snagged Hasten, and with Stamina and Consume, I'm not running out of Endurance at all. I'm using Tough at the moment, and will likely be respeccing and dropping the Tier 1 attack in order to pick up Weave.

Meaning I'll be skipping Jab, Hand Clap, Taunt, and Hurl from SS, and I'm not getting Temperature Protection from Fire. I've picked up Hasten, and I've not gotten any travel power, as I make due with Ninja Run + 2 Slotted Hurdle, which has served me well thus far.

So what advice can be offered on IO's, power selection, and possible APP/PPP's. I know that Mu was supposed to be the best one for awhile, but I don't know how it holds up now with the revamped Burn and the Tanker APP's becoming available.

Recharge and +HP

Your character does not have capped defense. Depending on your AT the cap is between 175% - 225%. Your defense is not teal in the combat window, it can go higher. STOP SAYING IT IS CAPPED! The correct term is Soft Cap.
I enjoy playing in Mids. I specialize in Melee Characters, other AT's usually bore me.

Defense, when you have a few sets of KC's to boost your S/L defense, then go and get more defense. Then after that, well...I'd get some more defense, then maybe I'd get some Recharge and +HP, but only if I couldn't squeze in more defense.

I would aim for recharge and defense. +HP is fine, but won't save your skin as /FA has less than stellar resistance and you *will* get hit by most attacks.

Words to the wise aren't necessary- it's the stupid ones that need them.

My advice for farming /fires is to go for recharge and hp. HP makes you last longer, recharge makes you kill and heal faster. If you're solo'ing x8 missions you're going to be getting inspirations dropped on you like rain. If you're constantly spamming them like I do, you'll be well over the defense soft-cap for the duration of your mission.

With no defense debuff protection, lets say you spend several hundred million inf, and waste power and slot picks on stuff to get you to, lets say, 30% defense positional. As soon as you jump into practically any mob with defense debuffs (and there's a lot of them) your entire build will basically be stripped from you.

With /fire, the best defense is a good offense!

I'd say recharge and smashing/lethal defense. It will be ruinously expensive to even approach the defense soft cap to any more than a single type or position, and smashing/lethal defense gives the most coverage. I am pretty sure that getting a heavy layer there will do more to help you survive than any amount of +hp bonuses - still, those would be third place in my reckoning, so certainly worth going for as well.

As said, Recharge and +HP are the winners. If you are farming anything on villains it is more than likely that it is Nemesis, and I find that even with Vengeance they don't last long enough to do much damage with the burn changes. Without bosses, after Burn>FS>BL everything tends to be dead or about to die. I'm currently working on switching to Pyre mastery though.

If you're farming Nems redside (which is what most people farm), +def doesnt really help. After the Nems 2nd vengeance, and you should be running into 3 or 4 lt's each spawn, that defense is negated. HP and recharge are the ways to go for a Nemesis farmer.

"Can play" is not a binary. It's a float.
There are some pretty low values of "can play" out there.
