Odd forum login issue
I am having the same issue loggin in on all computers I have.
I found a weird way to get around it.
I have saved a link in the favorites folder. I attempt to log in, it fails, and I click the favorites link, ... hey look. I'm logged in!
I am also having a similar problem with logging out of the forums on my home computer, my laptop, and my work computer. It seems to be booting me off after a period of inactivity.
I like the work around though. Thanks, Dinah.

Tried it but sadly, no go.
Logged in, first screen looks normal. Saved that as a favorite, clicked on New Posts, got bounced to a screen stating that there are no new posts and instead of showing as logged in I see the normal blank boxes for username and password. Click on the favorite link, get placed back at the normal first screen after login, and show as logged in, but as soon as I hit New Posts or PMs, I get bounced back to either the screen mentioned earlier or the one that states You Must Be Logged In For This Feature.
I've seen plenty of posts about random logouts, but this doesn't appear to be related. Rather this is a constant inability to navigate the site at all after initial login.

Are you set to accept cookies?
Did you look to see if you have a cookie from Coh?
If you do, try deleting it and reconnect to the forums to get a new one.

I've run into a similar bug too. It's not consistent like Bill's, but I do randomly get logged out of the forums occasionally and have to log back in - and not after a period of inactivity, either. It usually happens a couple times per day, and didn't start that long ago. *Something* they did with the forum software recently must be confusing people's computers.

Flea, as far as I can tell, yes, I'm set to accept cookies in both IE and Chrome. All cookies are cleared automatically during browser shutdown.

What domain name are you using to access the boards Bill?
Can you disable Automatic Redirection and see if there's any cross-domain jumping going on?

On my rig at work:
boards.coh.com automatically redirects to boards.cityofheroes.com where all login and site navigation transactions occur
On my rig at home:
boards.coh.com does not automatically redirect to boards.cityofheroes.com
After login, it redirects to boards.cityofheroes.com
Any click thereafter goes BACK to boards.coh.com for which there is no cookie and thus site navigation goes boom.
This post was made from the home rig over remote desktop by logging directly into boards.cityofheroes.com
Now all I have to do is figure out WHY the redirect from boards.coh.com is not happening immediately as it should be happening.

try flushing dns, and are you running any type of firewall?

Is coh.com even valid for this site? Never knew that.
I'd stick to the "proper" one : boards.cityofheroes.com and use it all the time if possible.
Same issue. Redirect not happening. No software firewalls. I am behind a linksys router, but I haven't made any changes to it in ages nor have I done anything odd to its default settings beyond opening a non-standard port for remote desktop.

Oh, chances are it could be something funky that the forum software does with the "referer" request header. If your Work browser sends that request header with every request the Forum software may be picking it up and using it to redirect whereas you might have it switched off for the Home PC.
It's silly for software to be relying on it but that could be it.
Edit : Quick googling finds This page which will tell you if it's on or off for your browser.
The output from home appears to be identical for everything as the output from work except for the IP address as expected.

I believe i am having the same issue , i Log in , have the " thank you for logging in" page , then im directed to page i was previously on with "user name and password" fields empty.
Currently posting from my laptop, wich logs in fine.
I just started trying to troubleshoot my constantly being logged out of the forums and found that on one PC at home (Windows 7 64 bit) my browser is redirected to coh103.gtm.cityofheroes.com, no matter what browser I use. On my other PC, a laptop with Windows Vista 32 bit, I am allowed to go right to boards.cityofheroes.com without seeing that odd URL at all. What gives? On the PC with the coh103* thing, I've cleared cookies, flushed DNS cache, and sprinkled fresh chicken innards on a sand table to see what is augured thereby, with no results.
I can confirm that being at any URL leading with "boards.coh.com" doesnt know my login credentials but "boards.cityofheroes.com" does.

Thats the temp address the boards flicked to about 2 weeks ago. No idea why. It was never explained by a rename. Our community mode have gotten rubbish at explaining what on earth is happening with regards to the web stuff.
I would probably advise everyone to use boards.cityofheroes.com from now rather than other domain names and Stevie that sorts you out.
if you continue to have issues try it in a different browser like Opera just to see what happens there, should help to narrow things down.

It's messing up my Firefox Sync
edit: Fixed! My partner apparently did something to my hosts file that was causing the issue. Now I am back on the boards.cityofheroes.com place! Hurray!
this is really out there but how secure is your router? could it have gotten hacked?
maybe it needs a firmware update?

I haven't been able to get it to remember me since they merged the boards. It seems logging into one machine will cancel the login on the other 2.

Since the site does function normally as long as I start with the boards.cityofheroes.com URL, I can put off the wipe/rebuild until next week while I'm "vacationing" in my new house, unpacking, and generally busting my butt getting it up to speed ASAP.

good luck on the move, and the resetup of computers.i just read so much about how much smarter people are writing trojans and such, that browser"issues" concern me a bit, i run norton internet security, and as backup adaware, malwarebytes and superantispyware, just to give myself a false warm feeling of security.

Being in IT, MH, I can attest to the recent spike in nastiness floating out there. My workstation had been running clean for about 3 years with nothing more than the random bit of spyware and then 2 weeks ago *BAM* trojan. I won't even try to describe the hive of scum and villainy that became of one my remote sites. I spent well over 80 hours fighting viruses and spyware all through remote desktop on about 12 machines. Lots of fun.
My assumption is that during my cleanup phase of my workstation something got itself borked that has yet to be corrected.

I can confirm i have been trying to login under boards.coh.com and the "favorites link" I was successfully load in under was boards.cityofheroes.com. So... that seems to be the problem.

I need some ideas on how to troubleshoot the following issue:
Workstation: XP SP3 using Chrome or IE8
Log into forums, click on Anything, PMs, New Posts, it doesn't matter, find myself placed at a screen stating that I'm not logged in.
Move to Gamestation: Win7 using Chrome or IE8, no issue. Move to Laptop: Win7 Chrome or IE8, no issue. Move to workstation at work: XP SP3 using Chrome or IE8, no issue.
The problem is ONLY occurring on my primary workstation at home. I've reset all Internet Options in Control Panel to Default. I've run Spybot, Malwarebytes and a full scan with Avira. I've cleared all browser history, cookies, cache, etc on both browsers.
No matter what I've done, the problem persists. One oddity: Yesterday I cleared out a few items from Avira's quarantine and was able to get one page loaded before being dumped back out to the forum login prompt.
It appears that *something* is blocking the site's ability to utilize cookies.
While I'm already resigned to wiping my rig and rebuilding it from scratch (I think I'm over 3 years without a OS wipe) I wouldn't mind trying a few more things as I have other items in life that need my attention more than the several hours it will take me to backup/rebuild.
Thanks much for any ideas.
