When did they nerf Dark Miasma for MMs?
They've always been that way. Sorry.
Yep. I'm guessing you just never noticed the differences before, or hadn't played a Corruptor or something to compare it to.
Dark is still pretty much your best choice.
yeah... I've had a Robotics / Dark MM since CoV launched and I'm pretty sure that Dark Miasma always had lower values compared to the Corruptor / Defender variants.
Now granted, when CoV first came out, the Real Numbers didn't exist, and I stopped playing the Robo somewhere in the early 30's, so I never got to Dark Servant. I don't know if the launch version has always had an 8 minute timer, but it would make sense from a design standpoint.

You're confusing the Defender version, which is a primary power set for an AT for whom Buff/Debuffs are supposed to be the best with the MM version, which is a secondary power set.
I've been away from the game for a while and when I came back I noticed two things that seem different and really, really bad.
First: It looks like they've reduced the AoE radius of Twilight Grasp from 20 ft. down to only 10 ft. This cuts the area of the effect down to around 1/5th what it used to be. Combine that with the super long activation time, and the fact that it can miss, and it's really hard (for me at least) to heal anything. My pets keep running out of range while I'm rooted in place. This is the only MM AoE heal that can miss and needs an enemy to work, so reducing the radius makes it almost useless as a heal. Second: The recharge time for Dark Servant has been set to 8min 20sec instead of the 4min that everyone else gets. This means that in order to have one out all the time, you need to invest heavily in recharge reduction, thus reducing it's over all effectiveness. If half the slots are devoted to rech redux then there's half as much room for anything else. Now, I don't know about anyone else, but one of the main reasons I took Dark Miasma for my MM was so that I could heal my pets (which I can barely do now) and so that I could have a 7th pet with Dark Servant (which is now either up half as often or is half as useful). So, I guess my questions are: When did these get changed? And why? |
Originally, the Twilight Grasp AoE was 8 ft.! It was expanded to 10 in Beta.
Fully slotted Hasten (3 SOs) and Dark Servant with two Recharge SOs will make him Perma.
If you're taking Dark Miasma and you're not going for a lot of Recharge, you're crazy. All the Miasma powers can't be spammed often enough, especially Tar Patch and Howling Twilight. And that includes the Defender version. And with high Recharge, constant respawning of pets as needed is no big deal if the heal doesn't hit.
As for healing, you'll need some binds that allow you to /follow the pet that needs healing and then fire off Howling Twilight. Also, TP Foe and Team TP are great tools for staying in a tight formation so that the heal hits everyone. And there's always 'attack this target' which sends all the melee pets to that target, and if you run to that target too and fire of TG, you'll hit those pets.
But for individual heals, I'm more inclined to drop a heal inspiration on the pet that needs it. I keep the pet window open right next to the inspiration tray and drop the inspiration on their health bar. I save Twilight Grasp for if the group needs it.

It did, it's always been like this since Beta.

I just finished my DS/dark MM and this was confusing at first (after leveling two other MM's to 50 previously). All in all, more specific pet controlling (yeah, I am looking at you Cold Demonling) and being more mobile in fight is what it took for me. I normally ran +1/+5 as my standard mission diff and was very comfortable with my heal.

That is what I did here with all the various sets that fluffy can take. I would use double/triples with a rech component in them and got it down to just over 4 min. So for a few seconds I am without fluffy - which is no big deal since I paying attention to the fight and recharge for fluffy.
It's also a very good idea to get Heal Other on a /Dark build. I've got a 50 Necro/Dark, and it's not as tweaked as it potentially could it (I don't have Hasten), but it's still very effective. Heal Other is great when you have that one pet that doesn't want to stay clustered, or when Twilight Grasp is on cool down and a Grave Knight needs a bit of quick healing.
/Dark/Soul is a good combination -- all those single target holds that Necro/Dark get mean that you can lock down bosses by yourself very effectively.

I have to disagree with this advice as it uses an extra power (and perceivably, extra slots) to do things you're already capable of doing. You can move. You can command the pets to move. You can put recharge (and probably should) into twilight grasp.

Twilight Grasp is up about every 4 seconds with 3 SOs of recharge. That should be plenty often given Dark's numerous other tools to work with.
