PROPOSAL: Replace "Kill X" missions

Hi!

Long time listener, first time caller : I have a proposal that I'd like to share.

Personally, I prefer red side to blue side because the contacts, missions, and, importantly, transit are just plain MUCH easier to live with. I'm playing blue-side recently, though, and I've noticed a few things:

  • Many of the contacts send you miles and miles away, for no apparent purpose. This pretty much never happens on red side and, honestly, it's freakin' annoying. Arriving in Skyway (from Peregrine Island) only to find that you're 0.9 miles away on the other side of the map and now have to run the whole distance (particularly if you don't have flight: Skyway isn't exactly friendly for super speeders!) is annoying. Having to go back to PI (fortunately you can usually bounch through ouro) only to be sent, then, to Perez Park? This sucks. Seriously. I'm level 48, can I leave Perez Park behind yet??????????
  • Many of the contacts have "street sweeping" missions (that I call "Kill X" because they're not interesting, they're just "kill X number of a specific mob in a specific location"). These are filler and completely un-necessary in a world with police radios and tips.

Which brings me to this:

If we have tips and police radios, do we NEED the "Kill X" missions from each contact?

I propose that we eliminate all of those missions from old contacts. Simply go through all of the old contacts and remove any "Kill X" missions that aren't part of an arc. They don't serve any purpose but to annoy people who accidentally click on the wrong mission while talking to a contact. They are, by definition, grinding, and there's no reason for it.

What do you think? Is this a manageable proposition? This wouldn't stop anyone from DOING the grind, they just wouldn't get a mission bonus for it. You could handle that easily by putting a security chief in the zone (already is one for some zones) who does nothing but hand out grind missions. Cleans things up, makes the content more rich and exciting and removes that "NOT ANOTHER ONE!" feeling when you're playing.

I can't help but note that there's almost no Kill X missions in CoV and none at all (that I've found so far) in Praetoria, so it doesn't seem very far fetched to me!

Because they were and are so unpopular. However, it's never be popular with the players to have content removed either. There is a lot of content Heroside. All would have to be revisited and replaced, and would take a staggering amount of time to do; time often spent instead making new content rather than replacing content.

Don't get me wrong, I would indeed like the Defeat X to go away. They are just tedious, and outright maddening when a Rikti Raid chases the particular group out of zone(Happened to me during a Numina's tf. Needed just 2 more Warriors in Talos when the Rikti came; no Warriors for 30 minutes! Stopped us dead)

The plastic tips at the end of shoelaces are called aglets. Their true purpose is sinister.

You can almost always find a few stragglers under overhangs, near the tallest buildings etc. I've never seen any zone actually get cleared out. Especially if you only need two more. When it sucks is needing 10+ because there's never that many stragglers that don't de-spawn unless it's brickstown and you get a big clump underground.

I can be found, outside of paragon city here.
Thank you everyone at Paragon and on Virtue. When the lights go out in November, you'll find me on Razor Bunny.

Did the warriors have to be cleared in Talos? If not, jump over to Striga.

total kick to the gut

This is like having Ra's Al Ghul show up at your birthday party.

I see this excuse come up every time this topic comes up, and I have to wonder: Even on the higher pop servers, how often does a Numina actually get interrupted? I really think it's way less than people make it out to be.

Loose --> not tight.
Lose --> Did not win, misplace, cannot find, subtract.
One extra 'o' makes a big difference.

Regarding the mission distance, remember that you can always abandon* the mission and retake it. Every time a mission is accepted, its location is randomly chosen*, so you can basically reroll a mission location with no penalties*.

As for the street sweeping missions, I don't see a problem - they're rarely mandatory, and when they are, it's required by the plot. I would like some method of more easily tracking down required mobs, though - hunting Malta or Carnies is no fun at all.

* not to be confused with auto-complete, which you can only use once per three days
* In most cases - some missions spawn in a specific zone, but other than zone-specific arcs, they're few and far between
* A caveat here is that if you abandon a multi-part mission, you'll need to start from the first mission again

Yes, in a Numina TF they have to be cleared in the zone that it sends you to.

I've only had it happen once, but then i don't run a lot of TFs. It happens more often than one might expect because Numina sends you to every zone, so basically a Rikti raid will interrupt some part of the Numina (by which I mean it isn't always Talos).

Far more annoying nowadays is the Boomtown segment, where the Council beat up the 5th Column before you can. It helps to be a fast ranged AE damage dealer. When my broadsword scrapper got assigned there by the team leader (who wasn't up for suggestions) it took her forever!

It's only ever happened to me that one time. It's my example of worst case Defeat X. I can happen, it did happen, and wouldn't might seeing them get cleaned up. Some are OK, but still too prevalent Heroside.
